I want a pony named Mony Mony
At a recent event:
Strength of Ten Bears. I adore that name!
Knew a gal who rode Cattywampus.
Had a horse named Knight Vision, which I didn’t like, so I called him Envy (N-V, though it should have been K-V). Was gearing to show him as “Green with Envy” so the announcer would say “aregard, riding Green with Envy”.
You’ve reminded me that in a similar vein, I knew a camp horse (pony) named Al Capony. He was awesome!
That’s awesome!!
A horse with the name of Bagel recently moved to my barn. A leggy, elegant TB-ConnieX. Not the round cob-type you might be thinking of when you heard that name.
I’m really struggling with my rolls with holes and keep calling him Donut.
When I was a kid there was a pony named TrulySpendingDaddysMoney. I get the mashed-up names because breed orgs have letter limits…Truly was the breeder’s prefix.
I dreamed of having a Rio Grande hunter and naming her Dancer on the Sand.
My very first pony was a gorgeous A Welsh, Marienhof Murmur. We had one foal that I named Princess Tiger Lily-she was a strawberry roan, and I was 8, so I think I did a great job! If we still had her in later years, I would have named a foal Careless Whisper.
I had an OTTB growing up named T N T Charge and he was out of Neutron Bomb.
I scribed a few months ago and there was a Haflinger in my ring named Ima Barbie Girl.
There used to be a Gypsy Vanner named Odd Job Bob that competed in the breed show at Dressage at Devon. I always thought that was just about the cutest name ever.
He was at the Kentucky Horse Park for a while! Hubby went with me to a show there and for some reason that horse’s name stuck in his head, so he’d mention him a few times a year.
My BOGOF foal’s name has layers of inside jokes, which no one knows except for me, his owner, my OH, and the person on the Horse and Hound forum who suggested it. And I guess anyone on HHO who remembers that from the thread. I think it’s brilliant.
He’s called Caso de Sopresa. Spanish, of course, given that he is a purebred Andalusian. Means “a surprise case” in Spanish, which he definitely was. But it gets better. I discovered his existence on the day I PTS my 28-year old mare, who was called Gypsum. I’d owned her for 21 years. Caso was born exactly a week after her death (teen mom hid her pregnancy well).
The chemical formula of gypsum is CaSO4.
Wow, that’s such an awesome name. It all ties together so beautifully!!
My GRP is by Dreidemensional out of Rettina - he is Drei Martini. However, since he has turned out to be such a laid back dude who eats anything, Weed-eater would have been appropriate as well.
Being a Calvin and Hobbes fan, I think the names “Spaceman Spiff” and “Tracer Bullet” would be fun names.
Years ago there was a UL eventer named Spaceman Spiff. I believe he was ridden by a vet Craig something. I remember seeing the pair back when the KY event was called Rolex.
You must be in my area (area VI), because I’ve seen that Strength of Ten Bears horse before! I was camping next to his owner at an event once a couple years ago. Very nice lady!
Many years ago, there was a big chestnut sabino gelding in this area that was competed in local hunter shows by a teenager. Amongst his other white markings, he sported three high white stockings, and his name was fittingly “Lost a Sock.”
Actually, the QH, “Let’s Go Brandon” had the name first…
