I will add this which was previously posted as well.

I was at the Hanoverian licensing last fall, and saw several 2.5 y.o. Furstenball colts presented. As a group, they were all a lovely type out of a variety of mares. One of them, not for sale, would probably have been the top seller if he had been available.

The first offspring are three coming four. From what I have seen, the sometimes “flatter” moving offspring are just amazing under saddle…and am thinking some of his stallions sons may prove to be even better. Follow Me and Finest are two that I would consider this year.

Have bred three Fuerstenball offspring. The colt I sold but still own two fillies…neither of which are for sale at this time.

I have two mares newly in foal to him. Both very different types so we’ll see what I get. LOVE this stallion!

Kerole, it must be nice. I am envious. Do you happen to know when the straws were frozen?

I love him too. I have seen him schooling twice. The rider described him as being “pony like” to ride ie super easy, not your typical stallion. He is just breathtaking I think. The soft pasterns behind freak me out a bit but he is so nice in every other way.

Wow… doesn’t he just make you want to ride… I don’t think I’d ever leave the barn if my barn was filled with horses like that. nice stallion, fancy but supple, smooth, and so correct in his gaits. He just looks like anyone could ride him and he would just agree with them.

Experience with several of them as it is my plan to end up with a baby of his. Test rode a three year old at an auction but he went for out of my price range. He was magnificent. He is for sale again now for double the price he went for at the auction and I am kicking myself for not finding a way to get him the first time. Truly a pleasure to ride, but VERY sensitive and challenging - not an ammy ride. Still put a grin on my face the whole time!

My trainer friend is looking at a 1.5 year old by him, very nice mover, seems sensible. Hilda Gurney has bred to him twice, and when I was at her place the other day I asked about how they were doing (I’ve seen both of them) and in her experience they are (her words) super movers with consistently tricky temperaments. All of the babies I’ve seen/ridden have had very different mare lines, so I think the temperament is from him. They also seem to run very light and modern, even when they are tall.

Hope that helps!

I do not breed or ride dressage horses but a view online of his sons at the approvals made me think I should.

OK. We seem to agree he has something magical but on a more realistic note, semen quality and freezing… any problems there… a breeder told me they tried for three seasons on a maiden mare without success and feels it may have to do with new methods of freezing…anyone else care to comment or was this an isolated case??? With live foal guarantees tossed out the window, it becomes even more risky as if it weren’t risky enough. A rich man’s game for sure. As truly amazing as breeding to the latest greatest superstars is, there is still something to be said for those three letters… LFG. it gives at least a bit of insurance.

There is a 2 year old Furstenball filly at the place I board at. Very nice mover and I don’t think they had any problems breeding… you could always talk to the barnowner as they also sell frozen semen from German stallions - www. rideauwoodfarm.com.

I used 1 dose (3 straws) each on 2 mares, one young, one elderly (19) and got 2 pregnancies. 60% motility under the scope. I am happy!

Kerole, do you have any idea of the year your semen was frozen?

I didn’t think to look at the collection date, sorry. I am possibly about to use my 3rd dose this week - I’ll check for you then.

That would be great. I’d be very interested to hear what year it is. Thank you!

I agree with what Nancy said, also related to the two sons Follow Me and Finest. The stallion sons out of Belissimo and De Niro mares have longer and seemingly weaker hind legs so I don’t prefer them as much as Follow Me and Finest. I think Furstenball does best bred to really good moving mares if you want an offspring with more lift and movement. Otherwise, he is versatile also as a hunter stallion. I really like him for the right mare and am really happy with the Furstenball filly we are starting under saddle. He greatly improved the temperament too as the mother was sweet, but super hot and spooky. This one is quite sensible, but still electric enough and also very sweet.

I agree with Nancy (Crosiadore) and Marne (mmt) in that some of his sons seem to have a better, rounder movement if they came from strong moving damlines (eg, Donnerschwee for Follow Me and Wie Weltmeyer for Finest). So far, my favorite sons have also been Finest and Follow me, both who seem to have a much rounder front leg action (especially noticeable in hand) than their father Furstenball. Although, like Nancy said, I have seen the flatter movers become nicer under saddle.

However, the rounder movers like Follow Me and Finest also seem really even better under saddle too than free. Drool-worthy really.

This is video Kareen took of Fashion Maker (Fuestenball/De Niro/Weltmeyer) . Just to make the decision a little harder. I do not think I have seen a young horse carry himself this well…

Here is my german rider, Wibke Hartmann-Stommel on Fashionmaker.

Wibke is very tiny, about 5ft tall, but she is very good!

Fashionmaker any my Golden West both stand at Rohmann’s this year and Wibke trains them.
