Games Trainers Play: The Florida Horse Saga

You guys have checked the horse for sale ads in Florida to see if anything resembling her horse is listed, right?

As far as vet exam, they’ve had the horse for over a month. IMO if something’s wrong, then too bad, so sad. Okay, it is sad for the horse, but who’s to say that it wasn’t caused or made worse by the 30+ days of different riding/training/supplements?

If the buyers say the horse didn’t pass the pre-purchase exam to their satisfaction, and even if they were to send the films and a vet report to the owner, how can she know that the films and vet report refer to her plain bay horse? Is there a way to prove that they do?

Sheesh. If I had any money I’d tell the owner to call the idiots in FL and tell them the horse had been sold and she was coming to get him. THEN see what they have to say.

How can they show the horse w/o the owners signature?
Without one, the owner cannot be held liable if something were to happen at the show.
I agree that the horse has been flipped and is prob long gone.
Now the owner is w/o horse and w/o money. Too bad. I feel for her, but you cannot hold anyone to their world in the horse world anymore it seems.

If they sign as owners, the show accepts their word for it. If they forge the actual owner’s signature, the show accepts they are who they say they are. Rated or not, show management is not the cops nor do they check ID other then the required membership cards, if any are required at all. We have no idea what kind of show this is…and that entry can say “or authorized agent” and who is to say actual owner did not authorize it? Lying does not seem to be difficult at all for these people, that is a problem.

In the case of the person I knew whose horse was “borrowed” and name forged, the AHSA (at the time) did require her to pay for the entries and stalls as it was her horse that incurred the charges and suggested she go after the other party in small claims or file a theft report and file criminal charges. Believe that other person was a non member who lied that she had applied…years ago, can’t remember all the details.

With no specific contract and release of liability for this un named show, friend is on the hook if it gets hurt or hurts somebody. If it is your horse, you are liable without a release (sometimes even with one).

this is the most absurd sale story if I’ve ever heard one!

Unbelieveable…and she asked for people’s opinions here, and went against them. Now, what everyone told her would happen, happened. So, will she again ignore the advice from those here? Will she go and take the horse back immediately, or keep playing around until the horse is gone or sick? I for one do not feel sorry for her, as this was just a mess in the making.
I do however feel bad for the horse.

to the OP…just go get the horse already!

The horse belongs to a friend of the OP… OP posted here originally for suggestions on how to help her convince her friend that she was about to make a mistake.

Re-read the thread. The OP does not own the horse; she is friend’s with the horse’s owner. The owner did not ask for advice.

OP has also said she thinks friend is nuts for letting this saga continue even after not getting the money and being duped into providing them a horse for free.

The flip theory is what is going on here, like a real house flipper that tries to sell before the first mortgage payment, they are trying to sell before they have to pay for it.

Friend is allowing them to do so. Not OPs fault.

Sorry, my bad:winkgrin: I thought the OP was the owner.

sitting on pins and needles So what’s the verdict today?? Inquiring minds and all!

glenaerie- when i was a tech, we made tabs that go onto the side of the xrays plates with the horses name, the vet’s name, clinic they worked for and the date on it. as to the written report, hopefully horse has markings or the or vet is not as under handed as these people seem to be.

Has anyone mentioned how very appropriate your signature may be to this situation, maxxtrot?

Horse is an OTTB right? So at least she will have the tattoo to go by when she finally goes looking for her horse. That might help when the police are eventually called.

If the horse does get returned what’s the betting it’s C.O.D.

Eponacowgirl, there are plenty of us FL COTHers that would be willing to check things out for you. I am in Tampa, PM me if I can be of any help.

Dang…I’m in Michigan.

I’d happily scoot on down there with my detective hat on and enjoy some sun for a good cause

silly horse, you are silly:)

Alright, FL people- my friend is offically very worried about the horse.

He’s located in Winter Haven, FL, which appears to be south of Kissimie and east of Tampa.

Anyone who might be willing or able to make a go-see, please drop me a PM or email at lauren dot romanelli at gmail dot com

Name was changed from “Long Island T” to “Iced T” (as far as we know). Bay TB gelding. I can find and give pics if needed.

ETA: My friend called her trainer in IL- trainer was furious with daughter and told my friend she would have never set her up with them if she’d known this was going to happen. Promised to call daughter and see if she could find out what was going on.

I checked equine.com and dreamhorse for bay TB geldings fitting his description and didn’t find any matches- anyone else want to look too?
