Gelderlander horses are gaining ground

In The Netherlands yesterday, at the yearly studbook inspection of the Gelderlander horses two excellent Gelderlanders were equally the best.
One of them is Bodessa, a full sister of Adessa that was the best dressage horse of America at the KWPN studbook inspection last year. The owners of Bodessa and Adessa are new breeders of Gelderlander horses.
The other is Brenda. Her owner is the breeder of Manno, the most famous Dutch Harness Horse stallion. He has a Gelderlander without hackney blood now again.
So Gelderlander horses are gaining ground.

As requirement for a horse to be a Gelderlander, the original studbook for the Gelderlander horse defined in 1964 that a horse has to have at least 75% of the versatile Gelderlander blood in the pedigree. Bodessa and Adessa have 94% and Brenda has 81% of the original Gelderlander blood in the pedigree.

Have photos been posted somewhere?

How many Alexandro P foals are coming in 2010?

Great news! I tried to find information about the horse Brenda, but couldn’t find anything. What are the bloodlines? What scores did this horse get?

About Alexandro P - what was the outcome of all the mares that were bred to him on that one stud farm that was featured on the dutch TV show that had a segment about him? Many of the foals should be here by now I hope. I found some info on bokt.nl and a picture of the one palomino foal with 4 white legs. He is very cute. The dam is a very interesting color. She is buckskin. Anton, where did that coloring come from and what are her bloodlines?

There are not pictures available yet.
Alexandro P is used for 30 mares last year, but in this number are ridinghorse mares too.
At 25 july is the Gelderlander keuring, there will be foals of Alexandro P.
Fantastic, can you give me the link to the picture on bokt.nl? I think I wrote an article about these horses, but I’m not sure.
A picture and the pedigree of Adessa is at www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/pedigree/nederlands/horse.php?N=00008710
The pedigree of Brenda is Special-D x Walser x Zakerno x Monarch. I made a mistake in my first post, Brenda has 76% Gelderlander blood. Special-D is a ridinghorse stallion. The dam of Brenda is from the same mareline as the stallion James Bont www.stalderonde.nl/jamesbont.htm .

Anton,

I don’t know if my mom told you or not, but we had a little linebreeding fun last year and crossed Olivier (Idocus x Rowillie) with Eclatant (Notaris x Rowillie). The resulting filly, Dayowillie AKA Diva looks so much like her grandmother, Rowillie, it’s scary. Maybe she can have a date with Alexandro in a few years!

I knew about Dayowillie AKA Diva. She seems a very successful result of linebreeding on a great Gelderlander mare. Most likely Alexandro wil be a good date for her (as to many other mares).
For maintaining the rare Gelderlander breed it is important to have enough stallions with much different Gelderlander blood. In this respect Olivier is very important because he has a pedigree with 62,5% free Gelderlander blood in it. Combined with a good Gelderlander mare he can give a new Gelderlander stallionline.

For preserving the Gelderlander blood there are some very old stallions available yet. Some weeks ago I became aware that in The Netherlands the former Grand Prix dressage horse Darwin-F still is alive. He is a stallion of 24 years old with a very good character and has 50% free Gelderlander blood. Combined with a 100% Gelderlander mare he can give a 75% Gelderlander stallion. His Gelderlander dam has four sons that were international showjumpers, among them a full brother of Darwin-F. But he is not approved for breeding now. I hope it will be possible to save this fine blood for maintaining the breed. I made this picture of the 24 years old Darwin-F www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/pedigree/nederlands/horse.php?N=00008030

OK Stardoozer, now you need to find Fizzy a nice Gelderlander mare for a wife! Starting a new Gelderlander stallionline - now that sounds like an excellent task for the Fiz Man. (mind of I call him that?)

Anton, Darwin-F looks amazing at 24! Has he ever created any foals? Speaking of old bloodlines, are you aware that there is still some Zooloog semen in the United States? What are your thoughts on this? Could this semen be sent back to Holland for some mares? What type of mares would you recommend for Zooloog?

Years ago I made digitalise this video of Goudsmid and other stallions and put it at my site www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/english/video_amor.html
Last year I made the video “het Gelders paard = the Gelderlander = der Gelderländer” for the information tent of the Gelderlander Horse Association during the FEI WORLD FOUR-IN-HAND CHAMPIONSHIP 2008 in The Netherlands. A German spoken version is nearly ready now and as I can find someone to do it in English I’ll make it too. In this video is Lianca and are two close relatives of the above mentioned stallion James Bont with which the Dutch Champion Two-in-hand 2008 toke part in our Gelderlander show at that World Championship Four-in-hand.

The owner of this site is the owner of Ilex www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/pedigree/nederlands/horse.php?N=00003467 the last stallion in male line of the famous Goudsmid. Ilex is not approved for breeding, but I hope they will use him nevertheless for their old mare with free bloodlines Desiree www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/pedigree/nederlands/horse.php?N=00005016

Anton, did you see my questions about Zooloog?

Oh, that mare Desiree is stunning! Looks amazing at 20 years! Has she created any foals? And Ilex, I have drooled over the picture of that horse! Nice!

You ask so fast. I’ll answer it, but later.

This foals - except Edelhart – are from ridinghorse mares. The Gelderlander is gaining ground in this respect too.
Edelhart has a Groninger dam. Her dam is the Gelderlander mare Fabiola www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/pedigree/nederlands/horse.php?N=00007645 Fabiola is born on the isle of Ameland. The granddam of Fabiola is K.Frieda, a mare that was registered in the auxiliary studbook. The buckskin color comes from the very old Groninger bloodlines on that island, this color is very rare in the Dutch warmblood breeding.

Has Olivier been bred to any of Deborah Harrison’s Gelder mares?

No, but I am going to call her and discuss the possibilities.
Thanks for bringing that up, Sally Ann.

Alexander P is spectacular and I would use him on my girls in a heartbeat.

Here is a new picture of Dayowille (Diva), now one year old.

http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs156.snc1/5820_125985015588_504920588_3462222_1241358_n.jpg

It would have been a conformation picture but she was too wiggly.

Anton,

I have a mare who is Hierarch x Lowillie (Charmeur x
Rowillie). What percentage Gelders is she?

Thanks!

Not Anton, but can I answer? Anton can correct me if I’m wrong.

(How is Hierarch? What is he doing, by the way?)

Hierarch - 40.625%. (Cocktail is 6.25 and Dudaula 75%)
Lowillie - 62.5%

So your mare is 51.56%.

Zoöloog is the only pure Gelderlander that is approved as KWPN ridinghorse stallion. In The Netherlands 49 foals of Zoöloog are born and I have seen myself 10 of them at the foal inspection of the studbook in 1986. In my opinion - nevertheless they were mostly from (not very good) ridinghorse mares - the foals were big and strong, a bit heavier than ridinghorse foals, looking like Gelderlander foals but with a bit less spectacular movement of the front legs.

I haven’t seen many descendants of Zoöloog as they were grown up. But at least 4 of this 49 foals became international dressagehorses later, of which Elorianne www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/pedigree/nederlands/horse.php?N=00000713 participated in the World Equestrian Games 1998.
I’m not sure, but I think Daedene in America was a very good dressage horse too and perhaps there are more. Maile (IJsselmeer x Zoöloog) participated in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing (Hong Kong) winning for Canada the silver individual medal and the gold medal in the freestyle. This Gelderlander has to be a very fine horse.

I know that there is frozen sperm of Zoöloog in America and I hope that it will create a Gelderlander stallion.

Darwin-F created one foal that is a very good dressage horse now.
