I have a Ster Preferent mare Natuur who was approved as Gelders horse at her studbook inspection. She has produced some very fancy foals for me and I have decided to retire her.
Siegi, you have wonderful horses. It is lovely to see how someone is the USA is so fond of âhet Gelderse paardâ and is helping keeping the breed alive.
Siegi, Why retire her?
Because sheâs 17 and doesnât owe me a thing⊠I retired her best friend, Kadence (Keur Preferent) who is 20, and the two are inseparable. So they have their own pasture with run-in shed plus stalls in the second barn. Life is good!
 My Rubinstein mare and Rohdiamant mare were both retired this year for similar reasons. They are joined at the hip and living the lazy, grass to the knee, happy life now and I am loving watching them.
Has anyone in the US bred to Alexandro P?
Itâs a shame there arenât many/any Gelders stallions available here. I think Ijsslemeer is the only one.
ODESSA GELDERLAND HORSE OF THE YEAR
Odessa has been named Gelderland Horse of the year in Holland. Her daughter Adessa is owned by Beverly Hilton a canadian breeder in Ontario. I heard that she might be for sale but I am not sure. She had two foals so far and this year filly will be presentend at Prima Equestrian keuring on Sept. 24.
This will be something to watch!
The other Gelders stallion in the US is Olivier at Imajica Farm in Vermont⊠I actually inquired about breeding Natuur to him and never heard back.
Why is noone considering Zoolog here? He is available via frozen straws. (according to my friend who bred to him recently)
My friend just got a colt by Zoolog (albeit, the colt is now 4 years old
If I were breeding for Gelders, Iâd at least try him if you didnât want to go down the Alexandro P and Ijsslemeer route.
Hi Siegi,
I am so sorry we never connected. I was mortified when I read your post and just peeked back through my e-mails to confirm- I did respond to you on 12/3/11. Perhaps it went to your Spam? So sorry we never connected! We are still collecting him this year, although I know that doesnât help you much.
Olivier is one of the most successful Gelders approved stallions ever, breaking into the top 100 on the World Ranking at Grand Prix, as well as competing successfully at the top levels for the last seven years. He also has offspring competing through fourth level dressage, preliminary eventing and in the hunter world. We expect a few of his offspring to make their FEI debuts next year.
As a sire, Olivier passes on an excellent character, a super hind-leg and nice bone and structure. He doesnât add a lot of height and often the mareâs size determines the size of the foal. Likewise, the foals often inherit their damâs feet and necks. He almost always produces beautiful heads. We have had much success crossing him with mares with a bit of trakehner and thoroughbred blood resulting in beautiful, typey foals with outrageous movement. The last three from our Balzflug x Dutchboy mare are three of the best horses weâve ever bred. We also have a 5-year-old out of a Doruto x Omega mare that looks to have the makings of an international horse like his father with a bit more blood. He also produced an approved Oldenburg stallion, Omologato, as well as a number of premium mares with the GOV, ISR and RPSI. We have not presented any of his offspring to the Dutch yet as we donât usually do Keurings, preferring to present our horses in sport.
If you go to Facebook and search for Olivier heâs listed under âAthletes.â There are a number of photos of his offspring from a variety of mares including a few with some Gelders blood.
Hi Madeleine,
youâre probably right about your response going into never-never land on my PC⊠Maybe weâll try again next spring?
And I agree - Olivier is the top Gelders stallion in the US and most likely ranks in the Top 3 in the world given his competition record.
Thanks for the feedback on what he reliably gives to his offspring.
Best,
Siegi
Hi Siegi,
I pmâd you my cellphone so that you can easily get ahold of me next spring. Looking forward to it!
Madeleine
Chrome! You forgot he passes on chrome! Stockings over the knees and hocks, belly spots and lots of white on their face. Not every foal, but of the six we have, four have 4 whites legs, two have belly spots and five have lots of white on the face. Of course you donât ride the chrome, but it doesnât hurt.
Itâs a good thing you make up for your motherâs aging memory.
Yes, lots of chrome.
Hi Everyone! Although this is a very old topic, I would like to try and get in touch with any of you, who know a lot about Gelders horses and/ or are still involved with them in the USA and Canada (or anywhere else).
I will introduce myself first. My name is Liz and I am from the Netherlands. I live in Arizona since July 2018, and will stay here for the next 4 years bc of my husbands job (Airforce). As a hobby and passion I have been doing photoshoots of Gelders horses a lot the past years. Also I did a big project with interviews and photoshoots last year, as sort of a âtributeâ to the classical Dutch Warmblood. I visited many breeders of Gelders horses in the Netherlands for this project, which was amazing. They can all be seen on my website and FB page. www.lvws.jimdo.com.
Now that I am in the USA, I am trying to find out everything about the Gelders horses here. Some really important Gelders stallions were exported from the Netherlands in the past and there is still quite some offspring of them living here, I found out. I find it important that the Gelders horse doesnât disappear due to ongoing modernization and for that reason I promote them and also try to find out if there is still frozen semen available or if there are stallions that carry valuable bloodlines.
I have a FB page called âKrachtpatsersâ which I set up after my project last year. It turned out into a platform for people who love the Classical Dutch Warmbloods, of course the Gelders horses but also the classical type of Groningers and Harness horses. I would love to find more Gelders horses here and maybe even visit them for photoshoots and interviews. (Just to be clear: this is not advertising because I donât do this as a job, it is a hobby, volunteer work :))

I really hope to get in touch with you! Thanks in advance.
