Gelderlander horses are gaining ground

In The Netherlands the 3 years old Sandor Jane was selected for the versatile Gelderlander stallion test. Before the start of the stallion test he was sold to America. So he is not approved in The Netherlands.
I have seen a video of the first time he was trained in harness as preparing at home for this central stallion test. Sandor Jane showed excellent in harness, with good movements and a very level-headed character. It’s a pity that he is gelded.

I’ve seen video of Sandor Jane when Willy presented him and thought he was a very nice stallion! Since he’s been licensed, I’m pretty sure that any foals by him could be registered as any others by Dutch approved stallions.

I also saw the video of him. He was nice. I chose not to use him for breeding. His foals should be registerable like any other licensed stallion. Yes, it’s too bad he was not kept intact.

Ijsselmeer, Zooloog, especially Alexandro P, or especially a TP stallion will give lots of quality and add extra oompf.

Here are a few photos of Dayowillie- our 2008 filly by Olivier (Idocus x Porter x Graaf Oregon) out of Eclatant (Notaris x Porter x Graaf Oregon). She’s a little awkward right now at 1 1/2, but she has an unbelievable walk and canter. And well, the trot you’ll see for yourself.

If any of you have ever seen pictures of her grandma, our keur, double preferent, double prestatsie foundation mare, you’ll see “Diva” is the spitting image of her grandma.

France’s Constance Medard’s Lianca retired

You guys may have seen this, but Lianca is being retired due to a severe tendon injury. Lianca is Tourist x Oran. 100% Sgldt. Whata mare! The article ends with a statement about Lianca becoming a broodmare. It will be interesting to see what husband Constance chooses for her!

More than 50 years ago the breeder of the famous stallion Oregon pref Sgldt had the device “Goed bloed komt altijd terug” (“Good blood will always revert”).
Lianca is an exemple of this. Her sire Tourist is the sire of Dikkiloo and other Grand Prix dressage horses. The pure Gelderlander harness horse stallion Tourist is a son of Marconi. Her pure Gelderlander harness horse dam Bianca has the stallion Hoogheid twice as grandsire.

Ten years ago I wrote in the magazine of the Dutch Rare Breeds Survival Foundation: By “Gelderlanders” we mean horses that in former days were officially registered as Gelderlander and/or Groningen in the stud-books of the time. (The Groninger bloodlines have always been completely recognized for the Gelderlander breeding.)
With most harness-horses nowadays however, also hackneyblood is found and from these horses no international sporthorses spring. The pure Gelderlander stallions Hoogheid and Marconi are passing on excellent dressage talent; stallions like Renovo do not appear in this whole story. http://home.claranet.nl/users/lijssel/english/GeldersPaard.htm

All harness horses that have been international dressage horses have a pure Gelderlander pedigree. So it is clear that we have to save the Gelderlander blood. I hope Lianca will help for it.

At the National Day of the Gelders Horse 2009 the best foal was Elvirma, a daughter of Alexandro P. You can see a picture of her in a report at www.bokt.nl/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1147142
The KWPN jury made Brenda (v. Special D) champion and Bodessa (v. Koss) vice-champion. The article says: “By this, youth and charm was preferred above better movement and more Gelderlander type”.

Awesome girl!

Sandor Jane

Very interesting discussion. I know this is old but I just found it. I have a 5 year old Sandor Jane baby. I love her to death. Sweetest mare ever.

Since Sandor Jane is about 15-20 minutes away from me, I could take photos.

Can you tell me how is Sandor doing now.

My father is the breeder off Sandor and we followed his results on the internet, but now we can’t find new results for about the last two year.

The website off the owner is not available anymore,
and te emailadres is not working.

Sandor’s owner, Terri, is the contact person for this horse for sale.

Try contacting her through that ad.

Sandor Jane

Thank you, for the link You posted, Oakstable.
I had contact with Terri wood, Sandor is doing well they will start inter2 in januari.

Figured this was due for a bump to see how these horses/offspring are doing!

Regarding qualifying blood, I had contacted KWPN-NA about the Gelder book and was told “the pedigree of the horse cannot exceed more than 12.5% improvement blood.”

I believe Taxateur is consider gelderlander, and he is 25% TB

FV - yes, what KWPN NA sent me is not consistent with the blood % types that have been posted on here thus far, but I do have an e-mail from them with that exact quote as I had enquired about the gelder book for one of our mares. I think they were defining “improvement” blood as erkend stallions that were later accepted. So there may be two seperate and distinct requirements, one for gelder blood and another for improvement blood. By that, of the 25% non-gelder blood allowed, only 12.5% of that can be from “improvement” blood. Just a guess.

It makes a difference though. If someone has a horse that meets the 75%, but 20% of the non-gelder is from improvement blood, they would not be eligible. At least that is how I interpreted it.

Glad to see this thread bumped up

I love Gelders!!! I woudl love to see more photos of the high-percentage ones.

My good friend has a 4 year old by Zoolog. He did well in the 2011 USEA Future Event Horse (as a 3 year old) One his division at Ram Tap actually.

Is Zoolog “pure” Gelderlander? Or just high-percentage? She can breed back to Zoolog again. Her gelding by him really takes after the Gelders blood. Chestnut with thick bone, big feet, that “head” and a large frame and that smoother topline, etc.

Zooloog was 100% Gelders.

I registered my 59% Gelders filly in the Gelders book as she is more Gelders than anything else. I was told that when she is inspected as a 3 year old she can be placed in the book that seems most appropriate for her type. If at that age she looks like a Gelders horse, that is the book she will go in.
Zooloog was 100% Gelders.
Thanks. I knew he was a Gelderlander but I wasn’t sure if he was 100% or close to it.

I really like him. Not sure why more folks don’t use him now. They have frozen straws here in CA…
