General feedback on new site HERE

Trying again to post … I get error message 502. How come i cannot access Forums?

Oh, saaaay. I LOVE that we can customize what we want to be notified about. User Settings>Notifications for anyone who like to change that around. Very cool.

I’ve been reading conflicting reports of what users are seeing regarding the Ignore list. It seems to be universally true that Ignore is actually WORKING.

I’ve read for some their Ignore lists were not imported; some report that they were carried over from the old site, but just aren’t working.

I’ve read that for some people, if you add someone to ignore, their username is blocked but the post still appears. Other people say it just straight up does not work at all.

Can I get some further clarification to make sure all of these things are true for different people. To make sure we’re on the same page, you can check on your Ignore list by going to your User Settings after clicking on your username. Then select the Account tab and scroll to the bottom.

They are still supposed to differentiate by being un-bolded after they are read. I have an inquiry in about that. I think it may relate to users’ cookie settings, but there are some different options they can employ if that’s the case. Regardless, it’s on the docket.

Is this cookie setting thing different than it was on the last version of the forum?

Read is certainly not un-bolded for me, and I have not changed any cookie settings since the last forum, that is why I ask.

@Moderator 1 I just tested the ignore feature. I can add a user to the list, and that add persists, but when I go to a thread where that user has posted, nothing is hidden from me. I still see the username and the full post for both posts made before I added the user to the list and posts made after the user was added to the list.

Win 10, latest update of firefox.

And you have a double post!
Ignore list doesn’t work for me either add user to ignore and it’s gone when i go check ignore list. Can still see post by poster that should be on ignore. @Moderator 1 tested ignore feature and doesn’t work put name in click save and go to that user i added and not on ignore. And gone from ignore list also.

And the blonde question for the morning… How do you add someone to your ignore list (as it appears mine is now empty :frowning: ). I used to be able to click on their username and one of the choices was add to the ignore list but still haven’t figured out how in the new world order

I also, last night turned off almost all notifications and this morning I got notifications on things I thought I had disabled…?

Not only the white but the teeny-tiny fond and all the icons

And a post PS - got 3 notifications for the single quote from the Mod1 a few replies up

@Where’sMyWhite Go to your user settings (upper right hand corner, click the drop down next to your name), go to the account tab, scroll down, type the username you want to ignore. Click save.

WRT the notifications, I think that you get notified of new posts on your “subscribed” threads regardless. I don’t think there’s an option to turn that off. Default on the old board was that you were subscribed to everything you posted to (again I think…) so there are a bunch of threads creating notifications because of that, at least for me. I went to my subscriptions page (profile>subscriptions bar [NOT the tab]) sorted to have recent ones first (default is old first) and unsubscribed to everything this year. Which should, theoretically, stop all of those notifications.

BUT now that I’ve gone back to see just how I did that for this post, I am showing “subscribed” again. So @Moderator 1, unsubscribe doesn’t seem to be sticking or there’s something wonky going on with it

I hate the way the page scrolls up if you click on the link for the next (or previous, or any other) page from the bottom of the page. Talk about annoying.

And would like to have the old “pagination” shortcut to move between pages

Dislike all the white, definitely hard on the eyes.

The font is small and color is light grey so little contrast making reading hard

Would like the short-cut menu to navigate between forums.

Little icon to tell if you have contributed to a thread is tiny, so hard to tell what threads have contributions

And thanks for asking and to the folks working hard on this upgrade

The background looks sort of light grey to me now.

Awesome! Good to know.

I’m having another issue today - every Post Reply is met with “empty reply”, but when I hit Post Reply again, it tells me it’s a duplicate post, which 1) obviously means the original did post, and 2) explains all the double posts I’m seeing today LOL

I too would love to know if there’s a way to “dismiss” the notifications once they’ve been viewed. Previously, under the subscribed threads list, you’d know you went to that thread because the font would change from bold to regular. Then after you were gone from the site for long enough, they’d (usually) disappear from the list altogether. Here, the notifications of new posts on subscribed threads remains until they are actively dismissed.

Do you not have the Dismiss option just to the right of the notification itself (once you click into the notification)?

There’s also a “dismiss all” button, but it’s hiding (at least for me.) You can still click it, though:

Screenshot

See the edge of the box that’s behind the “Today” banner? You can see the top edge. THAT’S your dismiss all button.

You can also make your window narrow to pop that screen into “mobile” layout. Then you can get to the button easily and also the filtering stuff, which is also behind the today banner.

Work arounds, hopefully they’ll fix this

The resolution of this screen shot is horrible, sorry. But this is what I meant. When you hit the big red button in the tool bar at the top of the forum that says you have a notification, you get this screen. In the list of notifications it offers dismiss to the right of the notification.

You go straight to notifications when you click the notification button? Lucky!! I go to the message center and have to click on the notifications there :-/

Yep, I also get the dismiss one at a time option, but the dismiss all (or dismiss page) are both ways of taking care of them in bulk

@JB When it tells you empty post just ignore, first time of hitting reply works been doing same to me.

I should clarify (and see now I worded things very badly) - I do have the Dismiss button for each notification. But It’s truly annoying, just an extra step, to have to dismiss it after I’ve gone to the thread it references. When I come to find 10 notifications, of which I can only see the first few, I go to the first one, come back to still 10 notifications, dismiss the first one, go to the next, and so on.

With the old format, even though the “new posts since last visit on your subscribed threads” were still there as you worked through them, the font changed, they at least went away in short order, visited links eventually disappeared, and the newest notifications were always on top. There was no extra work to make them go away other than visit the link (or click unsubscribe)

On my view it says “Started by” and the user name right under the title - ? In that context, it all looks about the same as before - title and started by on the left, responses and views in the middle, and last post by/when on the right
