General feedback on new site HERE

I had that problem because this is a new URL.
I googled COTH, added the new URL to my bookmarks and now I can enter with that fine.

As for getting to the last post, if you click on those little blue dots under the last poster’s name on the right of a thread’s title, it will take you there without needing to scroll.

There is also a blue place to click by the title of threads that also helps navigate without needing to scroll so much.

The Moderator said they were discontinuing the volunteer $20 dollars for premium members and would be refunding some of that soon.
The picture posting feature directly on posts now would be open to all.

The colors of the pages will be changed, but that would be after all other glitches are worked thru, for what I understand.

@Lord Helpus

I emailed you and Molly Sorge to help sort out your access to the online magazine.

Would it be possible for you to send me a screenshot of how the site appears to you? Are you seeing a medium gray background on the side of posts where folks’ usernames appear or is the entire background the same color?

I experienced page numbering issues during beta testing as well, but they addressed them and I haven’t experienced them yet on the new site.

I’m sure you’ve provided this info somewhere, but what browser and version are you using to view the site?

It’s always frustrating to have to deal with things that aren’t working correctly and/or the way we’re used to, especially when we’ve established routines for how we typically go about doing something. I’m confident we’ll get things sorted and we’ll all get back in the groove.

Thanks!

I got an error message also accessing from my laptop i run on enternet explorer had to change my bookmark. Googled coth forums then clicked on the forums and i got on with no error page.

Looks like the number of threads per page has been increased. Thank you!!

Comments on the mobile site:

  1. User location should be shown. I agree this often comes into play when answering a question.

  2. Please list the thread starter’s name with the topic.

  3. There is no marker that shows that you have replied to a thread.

  4. Add the sub forum links back to the bottom of the page to navigate back.

  5. Read posts are still showing as bolded 90%+ of the time.

Thanks for for fixing the number of topics per page!

The whole theory that if you do not want to read that stuff, do not open the thread or read this section is not working right now. I was trying to use the Latest Posts option from the forum home page (since it seems to populate with more recent posts, versus the Latest activity tab). The problem is, all you get is a title and not enough of the first line of the thread to tell what it is. I have opened two very political posts from Current Events because the title sounds like a good (even horse related) topic.
I know that there are much larger issues, but can we move up on the list a way to find a list of new posts that does not include current events, or at least includes the forum listed so you know it is in current events so most likely people calling each other names.

Squeaky Wheel again (sorry! sorry! I really do appreciate how responsive you + team have been):

Can we get back the “see all related threads” box that showed underneath/at the bottom of the page of a current thread? I really miss that feature - it was a great way to catch older threads that had similar titles. IE when someone posted a thread like “Collateral Ligament Injury!”, at the bottom of that thread related topics that also had similar titles showed up. It was SO helpful in finding other threads with similar quandaries.

Also - I’ve noticed that there are no page numbers at the top of the thread when viewing a multi-page thread - in order to navigate to a different page you have to scroll down or type the number you want into the keyboard. Can we get back having the numbered pages top + bottom like in olden days? I know you can type it in, but it’s not super accessible and adds a lot of time to navigation time.

ETA: The LATEST ACTIVITY link only shows up for me when I am at the forum’s home page - not when I’m viewing the discussion forum, or browsing within sub-forums. Idk if that’s deliberate or not, but I have to go back or go home to get the LATEST ACTIVITY ribbon to show up.

@beowulf
I see page numbers at the top and bottom.
(sorry this is blurry)
This is what I see.

I left for 3 days and came back to this. To be honest, I’m a lot less likely to come browse the forums now- it’s more difficult to read stuffed between the two wide margins, with the condensed text size and spacing, and all the grays and whites are really difficult to look at, especially on a screen that isn’t super high resolution.

I’m seeing the Search Ribbon at the top (where the search + page number you type is) but no page buttons (like seen below - [1] [2] [3] [4], etc). Most forums have the page buttons top and bottom for quick/easy navigation. A small quibble, but I like the page button feature and do not care for the Ribbon page-type feature, because the Ribbon itself is so slow + laggy and is way less convenient than an easily clickable button. Like I said, small quibble but it’s one of those things that enhances accessibility.

The whole forum is slow and laggy so I guess I have not noticed the ribbon being more slow and laggy. I like the ribbon because no matter where you are on the page it is right there, no need to scroll up or down to move to a different page.

I don’t see any ribbon to change pages with out scrolling up or down to change pages. Not laggy on my computer for searching forums. Laggy for login and logout.

@tazycat , your link did not work for me.

I find it laggy every time I try to open a new forum, slightly less so when I open a new thread.

For me, that ribbon is there anytime I am in a thread.

Here’s the link http://postimage.org/image/j13qlatjd/ Here is how my screen looks i see no ribbon and i’m on updated browsers.

@tazycat Tilt your camera up. You don’t even have the right area of the screen in that view to see whether you have the ribbon or not. Better yet, use print screen or the snipping tool to take a screen shot.

This is it here:

FWIW, I agree with very “slow and laggy” to load. And yes to having to scroll down to the bottom of page to get to end dof thread (can’t seem to do it from the ribbon at the top). I haven’t yet found the edit feature for fixing spelling and whatever (I’m sure I will but haven’t found yet) and yes to “latest activity” NOT seeming to work like “latest posts”. Only works (for me) from home page (or the specific forum i’m in) Also agree about getting back “related threads”. Very helpful feature.

Still new but at first blush, I prefer the old page a lot.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I would love to have the page numbers linked under topic subjects. I’m pretty sure that is how it was before.

WHY am I having such trouble accessing the forum on my IPhone?? Help!?! I’m trying to muddle through (and have to say that I am not a fan, it seems much less user-friendly and I have a devil of a time navigating around :frowning: ), but maybe? I’ll eventually get used to it?? SIGH. Meanwhile, I am being stymied every time I try to log on from my phone…

@Dr. Doolittle can you throw up some screenshots for the mods to see and troubleshoot? The mobile version works really well on my variety of devices, so I’m even curious what’s happening for some iPhone users…
