generic Surpass

I know that many people, myself included, have used Voltaren on their horses. However, with changes in federal law about getting medicine across borders this has proven to be quite difficult.

Even though you can get Voltaren in a Canadian Walgreens you can’t get it or the horse version Surpass without a prescription.

I stumbled across this today, sounds an awful lot like the same thing. Pricey though and can’t find an ingredient list.

I used to buy “Thai muscle cream” which was exactly the same drug and concentration as surpass for seven bucks a tube on Amazon. Of course federal law then made that illegal and unavailable. It’s so aggravating because yeah it’s otc in Europe. Why oh why are we being ripped off left right and centre???

Equi-block works as good as Surpass IMO. It’s $25, so for that price I’d try Equi-Block before the ExCell…that’s crazy expensive for a 4oz tube.

I can’t find the ingredients on the label. Am I missing them?

These ingredients are not the same as Surpass or Voltaren:

http://www.equinebiomed.com/talk-to-us

Ingredients:

Aqua (Deionized Water), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera Gel) Juice, Methylsulfonylmethane, Zemea (Corn) Propanediol, Caprylic / Capric Triglycerides, Stearic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Almond) Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oil, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Lecithin, Equitome™, Hydrolyzed Collegen, Glyceryl Laurate, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Beeswax, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Panax Ginseng Extract, Triethanolamine, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglcerin. ExcellR8™ contains the Lecipro™ liposomal delivery formulation.

Thank you for finding the ingredients!

I looked up Equi-block it appears to have capsaicin in it.

Given how unexceptional the ingredients are… the price is shocking

Capsaicin works by itself, as do a number of otc ointments. I haven’t found any that are as effective as Voltaren, though.

AND the reason the USA is getting screwed on medicines is because your congress and senate people are in Big Pharm’s pocket. The pharmaceutical companies whine about how much $$ they spend on “development”; truth is how much they spend on advertising to promote their drugs and plain old greed.

This is a true generic Surpass if that is what you are looking for-

Well…the % of working ingrediant is 50% lower. That’s kind of huge.

Its pretty easy to get voltaren prescriptions from PCP.

Two thumbs down on generic surpass

I have a tube of the generic surpass compounded by Wedgewood Pharm. Every time I have tried to use it my horse gets blistered. He swells up for several days in the area and then scabs over where it was applied. It costs the same as the normal Surpass and the main ingredient is the same - I guess there is something in it that my horse does NOT agree with!

That’s interesting. I was tempted to order it because Surpass is out of stock, but have been using the Equi-Block instead. It’s no longer show season so this is a good option. I sometimes wonder why these drugs are out of stock for so long???! Surpass and NexHA are two I can think of.

The way I use Voltaren is to clip the hair off of the offending joint (hocks in my horse’s case) and put in on the area–don’t rub it in. It’s pretty fast acting. He’s never had blisters or anything else that’s negative from this.

A horse could have a reaction from some ingredient in the compounded base. Did you report the reaction to Wedgewood, TPF? I have always found them to be responsive.

Nope but that’s a great idea! Ill do that today. I even used the product several months apart with the exact same reaction, so I know it wasn’t a fluke.

FWIW, I have the generic surpass from Wedgewood and haven’t had a problem

My local pharmacy has a prescription ready for me from the vet, and I don’t even know what it is called. It’s basically supposed to be Surpass, since we can’t get that.

Now I am curious! I will have to go get it and see if it’s the same thing you guys are talking about.

This is where I buy Voltaire Gel. https://www.pharmcom.com/103-buy-voltaren-online

Holy crap…$130 for that???

I have a legitimate prescription for Voltaren from my PCP, and it costs me $11 with my pretty crappy insurance coverage. I have on occasion shared with the horse. I am barely serviceably sound so it is really more for me than him. Most of us horse people probably have something that we could use a Voltaren Rx for?
