LOL
It’s NOT THE FLU.
Does a mask realllly effect you that much? Is that the hill you want to literally DIE on?
Don’t like it, then stay inside.
Thanks for coming out (but wear a mask).

Sucks that some people (people who won’t wear a mask, and also George Morris) have to ruin a good thing for the rest of us…
Your selfishness is duly noted. The fact that you could be an inapparent carrier shedding a pathogen which could kill another person appears to be inconsequential to you.
Consideration for others is not at all the same thing as having to “live in fear”.
In other news, COVID-19 is not an influenza virus. It is a coronavirus. Different in many respects.
However, young, otherwise healthy people died in droves during the 1918 influenza pandemic.
Despite your cavalier attitude, I do hope you do not become a statistic.
If people wearing masks in public is the difference between being able to have horse shows and not, you’d think they’d give it a shot.
USEF has some choices to make about how they’re going to handle the GM situation. They were willing to make those choices for Barney Ward, so they have some precedent.
If GM is warming up or commenting to any riders while he’s on the grounds, they should also be addressed.
See post #26. “…the event that he showed up at took care of the situation immediately.”
I don’t know about NC, but in Michigan there is an allowance for people who “cannot medically tolerate it”, though there is no requirement to carry proof of that issue.
Not to nitpick, but this particular coronavirus is less than 9 months old. There is literally no way to know if this will result in “life long debilitation” for anyone more than any other virus has in the past.
It is up to management to remove him from the show grounds, but if there is any other competition or event going on at the same time that does not fall under the purview of USEF, that makes GM’s expulsion a much larger gray area. USEF has jurisdiction over events they sanction. They do not have jurisdiction over Carolina Horse Park in general.
The War Horse recognized and unrecognized classes are run by the same organizers. That’s different than if there was a totally different management team running an unrelated event somewhere else on the grounds. Plus, the War Horse management team advertises their unrecognized divisions as being a USEA registered schooling show - they even award USEA memberships to some of the non-members that compete.
Absolutely untrue. People who contracted COVID in the very beginning and have been released from hospitalization and “cured” are dealing with damage to their lungs and circulation comparative or worse than people who have been life-long smokers, cancer patients, and the like. There are symptoms you will not come back from, and in people who are perfectly healthy previously.
I still don’t understand why even if the symptoms “only” last you five years until your body repairs from significant damage, you wouldn’t try to prevent this by staying home when appropriate and wearing your GD mask? I just don’t see how this encroaches on your personal liberties, and how you think potentially exposing others isn’t encroaching on their personal liberties. I don’t know how to explain that you should care about others. Sometimes it’s just not about you (and it could be about you).
I have a mental image of GM being bundled into a black golf cart with flames painted along the sides and zooming away…
Re: the slight Off Topic swerve about masks.
It troubles me that so many refuse to do something that is so easy in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-NOTTHEFLU-19. It also saddens me that some continue to insist that only the elderly and/or those with compromised immune systems are at risk or that there are no lasting effects if you get it and do not die. That is simply not the case.
Masks can and do help. I wear my mask to help protect YOU. I care even if you don’t. You’re welcome. It would be wonderful if you felt the same way.
I wear a mask everywhere when I go out. To the feed store - where the staff do not wear masks and there are zero concerns about social distancing. To the grocery store - where staff are masked and gloved, shields are up between the customer and the cashiers and everything is constantly wiped down and sanitized. I actually got my hair cut last week - and the Great Clips was just as careful and meticulous about PPEs and distancing as the grocery store is. Yes, I wore a mask. The person who cut my hair had a mask as well as a shield. Only 3 of us were allowed in there at a time and well spread out.
My BO was complaining about needing to wear a mask at Costco or you cannot get in the door. She said no one could breathe in them for more than an hour… and it was outrageous and against some kind of constitutional right and Costco would lose all their business (yeeeeeah, no). I replied that it was a good thing she was not in the medical field or preforming surgery in an operating room for 8 hours plus. Many people wear them all day, every day as a normal part of their job. And there is no Constitutional Amendment about masks.
One small thing that can help. I never imagined it would be such an outrageous topic or act…
This is a SARS type coronavirus. We know from SARS-CoV-1 that there have been long lasting respiratory and other effects, including bone necrosis. There are a lot of unanswered questions about the SARS-CoV-2 because it is a different virus.
Horse shows have plenty of health and safety rules in place like you have to wear a helmet while mounted. They can implement a rule that you have to wear a mask. If you don’t want to wear one you don’t have to participate in the horse show.
It seems strange that with the endless number of threads debating the whole Covid thing we had to turn this one into yet another Covid debate.
I too am wondering the question that is up thread that it seems like has not been answered. What happened with GM at the show? Did he just leave?
He cant be on the grounds when a usef or subsidiary event is happening, regardless of whether he is speaking to anyone at all, or just there for a delicious horse show meal
To my understanding from the poster who reported him to management he feigned ignorance and seemingly left?
Ignorance is absolute bliss… You are outstandingly blissful.
It is dangerous to young people, old people, imminunocompromised people, and there have been infant deaths. So, even if you are confident in your own invulnerability, I resent you threatening mine.
I’m not as nice as “Ghazzu”. I would be quite amused if you reaped the consequences of your ignorance.
As far as George goes, I have never been a fan, so would consider his complete absence as a small loss.
I suppose the show manager could call the local police and have a no-trespass order put in place? I know that this can be done at shows where a banned person comes on the grounds. And if shouting etc occurs then they can be tossed for disturbing the peace. This happens sometimes when non-paying boarders want to pull a horse off the property where the farm owner has placed a “lien” on said horse for payment owed. “Disturbing the peace” can be as simple as the owner preventing the horse from leaving while the boarder tries to take it from the stall and put it on a trailer or ride it off the property. I recall one time where a bunch of boarders left “on a trail ride” and would up at a new barn -
So, my mom, who has type 2 diabetes but is otherwise healthy, but is technically high risk for the disease because of the diabetes (it could kill her), can never ever leave her house because selfish idiots think they shouldn’t have to wear a mask when they go to the grocery store, which she has to go to because she can’t always afford grocery deliveries?
Its just not as simple as you people want it to be. Not everyone that is high risk is practically on their death bed. And not everyone has access to PPE that will block out all particles and completely protect them. Which is why we ALL need to do our part to keep everyone else safe.
Basically, y’all stop being self absorbed jerks and just wear a freaking mask. If you get short of breath from a surgical mask, unless you have an actual respiratory illness it’s just anxiety (trust me, I get that too).
I swear, the same people complaining about these dirty old men having to face sequences now from awful stuff they did in years past are the same ones complaining about having to wear masks for others’ sakes. Is it just a specific personality type?
It is NOT a flu virus.
PPE needs to be worn by the non-symptomatic people to protect THE REST OF THE POPULATION.
While who have underlying conditions are at greater risk, it also kills “normal people”.
mmm, are you simply minimizing the deaths and extremely critical conditions that young and health individuals have suffered, or are you just ignorant to it?
how about the children who get multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) because of COVID? Is this not devastating enough for you that you, a possible asymptomatic carrier, can pass it off to a child who has no medical history? Even if you are not intubated, having multi system failure, or on every drip to maintain your blood pressure and heart rate–COVID causes dangerously high fevers, horrible aches and pain, and so on and so forth. There’s a reason people who have or think they had COVID describe(d) it as “the worst flu ever.” Even if you aren’t tubed and spending your end of life in the ICU–it’s still not an easy “flu” as you call it, even for the healthiest individual.

…Are probably the same people who think that the government installed COVID trackers on their phone with the latest update, are probably the same people who repost FB articles without even opening the link, are proabably the same people who think there’s real evidence that Obama is from Haiti, are probably the same people who think All Lives Matter, are probably the same people who think police brutality will end via peaceful protest/is fine because cops kill white people too… I don’t know if it’s a personality but it sure is a type…
As for the mask thing: I have allergic asthma and am asked to wear a mask when I ride at the barn. Yes, sometimes I have to take a breather in the middle of the ring and take the mask off my nose, and I bring my inhaler to the barn… so much better than the alternative of contracting a potentially fatal virus or dealing with the guilt that I gave it to someone if someone in the barn got it-- even if I technically have an excuse not to “mask up.”
Can we pretty please keep the mask debate in Off Topic?
