George Morris at Carolina Horse Park

Riders at tracks here in SoCal are required to wear masks, period. I gather that everyone at the tracks are masked and being monitored, though I don’t know that for a fact.

So after 140 responses, a diversion or two, a little bit of COTH-style name calling…

Can someone say if there were actually any consequences for a banned individual attending a showground running USEF affiliated competitions?

It sounds like he was asked to leave and he left. I’m not sure what other consequences there could be. He’s already received the maximum penalty possible from USEF and since he left voluntarily there was nothing for law enforcement to do.

It makes sense given the close proximity. I’ve never seen an exercise rider use a mounting block like we do with hunters, for example. Always a leg up (and generally whilst in motion which always amazes me - those riders are so athletic!)

Well, not all of those horses are great at standing still to be mounted… Less a leg up than a toss in the right direction!

I’m wondering if he could be charged with trespass charges in the future since he has already been asked to leave/never attend a show. It would probably be down to the state the show is in.

A minor diversion from Mr.Morris, to an athletic jockey tossing himself in the right direction; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3vXjIFibhs

Wow!

Wasn’t he unflappable?! I’ve never seen quite that combo of rear/jump and the jockey remained so cool.

Yes, the jockey seemed to know that the horse wasn’t being bad, just hot and only took a bump of the stirrup for the horse to launch.
They seemed to come to an amicable compromise.

I’ve seen that video before, but it’s still impressive every time.

I believe I saw another video of that same horse doing something similar before another race. So maybe the jockey had some practice with his antics.

The video is a few years old by now. I wonder what ever became of that horse after his racing career. He certainly had some athletic ability!

So, do we wear masks forever now? How many people are going to start having related issues because of extended wearing of a cloth covering over their faces? How many people are going to have complications we can’t possibly know about now because some people are insecure about this whole thing? At some point we need to move on.

That is a great jockey. Sometimes you just need to roll with it, right?

Yes we need to wear them for the foreseeable forever and no one is going to have issues related to covering their face. Absolutely no one.

Yup, isn’t it amazing how health care workers have been wearing masks and more for hours at a time…for years.

Exactly. They can operate on your brain or your spine for 12 hours at a time with enough oxygen to be able to think rationally and draw upon their experience but “your” dumb ass can’t breathe well enough to walk around the grocery store?!

:lol::lol: I shouldn’t laugh but this about covers the lack of air argument. Honestly if one’s breathing is compromised by a mask they should probably make an appointment with a doctor.

I am also thinking about things like skiing… People wear gaiters, thick ones at that, to keep their face from freezing. No shortness of breath there. People wear masks or gaiters when riding motorcycles. No complaints. Ask someone to wear one for a trip to the store? All of a sudden half the population has breathing issues.

Do you need to practice to be so ridiculous, or is this an innate talent?

I have a friend that a local GP. She says that a large part of her day right now is telling people she won’t write them a medical excuse for wearing a mask. She likes to point out that if someone’s medical condition prevents them from wearing a mask; that condition means they are high risk for COVID and should be practicing extreme social distancing anyway.

My BFF is very, very ill. A 6 year cancer survivior currently fighting a new, different and advanced cancer. So severely immunocompromised. She is also claustrophobic. I have know her for all of our adult lives, it’s not fake, it’s not something she uses as an excuse, she’s legitimately claustrophobic. So she fights some anxiety every time she puts on the mask and has to talk herself through it. Guess what? She wears her freakin’ mask. Because she’s not a selfish a$$hole.

This one thousand times! I live and work most of the year in parts of Asia where people wear masks all the time. Constantly. Allergy season? Mask. Have the sniffles and cannot avoid going out? Mask. Turn up at the doctor for a sick visit? Separate waiting room + mask. Business class seat on an international flight? Amenities kit has a mask that is touted as helping the wearer avoid drying out too much during the 12+ hour flight.

And, of course, are you on surgical/dental staff (among others) anywhere in the world? You guessed it: mask!!

The very idea that there would be “related issues because of extended wearing of a cloth covering” is so patently and laughably ridiculous I don’t even know what to say. I guess it’s a miracle our surgical teams and dental professionals have been spared the carnage of these “related issues”? I mean, honestly, just a tiny bit of critical thinking and awareness would go a long way.

Also, you don’t “move on” from an on going crisis. You didn’t just break up with your jerk boyfriend and at some point decide to just get over it. It’s like saying on some random number of days into battling a wildfire, “You know, at some point we need to stop with all the hoses and helicopters and move on. We can’t do this forever.”

Sweet fancy Moses.

Not to mention how many of those people were ready to pop hydroxychloroquine instead. I promise, the mask has fewer side effects than just about anything you could take short of a vaccine, and 70% effective if everyone uses them. If everyone would wear a mask, if the R rate of spread could go below 1, we could have this thing knocked out just like they managed to in other countries.

Brilliantly put. As someone on the flank of the enormous Ranch Fire for literally months, with voluntary evacuation orders in place that whole time, thank goodness the firefighters didn’t just get bored with it and go home.
