You have said you are against pre-pubescent kids having sex with adults but not older kids with adults. Do you really need to say any more?
And now this person has made their account private!
You should stop saying that, because it is totally, unequivocally wrong. There’s a strong case that it was much worse than implied by the stories abolitionists told. And the effects still directly hurt descendants to this day, culturally, economically, and epigenetically. People were tortured and a lot of them died. Their creative energy and works were stolen from them, and stamped into bloodied dirt. It is a horror that still hurts our whole nation, regardless of your personal genetic history.
The mods are responsible, not VR. They’ve had literal years to clean up the boards but have chosen not to. Now everyone gets to witness this and we are all sullied by it.
But no one has been more sullied then Coth’s interest holders. Can’t say they didn’t have ample warning.
I am a survivor of horrific abuse who has been threatened by the man who abused me and his current victim. My physical and psychological safety is key to my recovery: posting links or screenshots to my Twitter account - which I know he hasn’t found yet - threatens my safety. You may not care, but you have any empathy for a survivor who is afraid of being discovered or who values what I post about SafeSport, the culture of silence in sports, recovery from abuse, or what it’s like doing this as someone who is/was prominent within their NGB, please don’t link to my account or post screenshots that include my username.
My trauma and experiences of abuse and with SafeSport aren’t a spectator sport: stop sending follow requests because I’m just going to delete and/or block all of them. No need to waste both your time and mine.
I would appreciate if the links to my account and the screenshot that includes my account name are deleted; I’m aware I have no control over that, but I would really appreciate it. I’ve shared with my experiences and concerns about SafeSport because it’s important to me that no one else go through what I have and I’ve been told those posts have been very helpful to people - I’ve been trying for weeks to balance my discomfort with the attention I’ve been getting with the benefits people say they get from my posts.
My safety from our abuser come first, and this is by far the most publicly my account has been shared. Please be kind and delete the links? I will happily accept any follow requests that come in once those links/screenshot has been deleted.
Meh.
I had to point out about 30 pages ago that kids who are showing in the medium pony division are too young to be dating adults. So apparently there is some confusion on many unlikely subjects.
Your name isn’t in the screenshot.
I removed my link. However, I also want to say that you took a post that was completely rotten and then posted it publicly (as a screenshot) as an example of how people on COTH are. We are now at 135 pages and there are FAR more people here on COTH who stand WITH victims than in other areas where they stand with abusers. So I don’t think it’s fair that you posted that out of the thousands of posts on here that support victims and denounce abusers.
Omg. I was just thinking of that the other day! Even though I almost never used it, since then the threads made a lot less sense sometimes. But it was still a good option to have, just in case.
Thank you for pointing that out to me - this incident has been triggering for the PTSD that’s resulted from being stalked and harassed by my abuser and I hadn’t noticed. I appreciate it, thank you.
I did not post it as an example of COTH. I have been very balanced in what I’ve said about the equestrian world, including COTH. I even pointed out to someone what an extreme it was and that every response to it had roundly criticized it.
However, the sentiment behind it - a lack of understanding of why teenagers can’t consent to adults, particularly those in power over them - is an issue in both my former sport and apparently in equestrian, at least based on Twitter and Facebook (this place is far more sane, and why I’ve come here to learn more about your culture). Using the extreme end of a position can sometimes help persuade people who hold a softer view of the same position.
Overall, I thought I was generally balanced in what I posted: I point out the good and bad parts of SafeSport and the good and bad actions of U.S. Figure Skating, and to the extent I could, the good and bad in other sports’ cultures. My concern is (was?) athlete safety, not a particular position on anything.
Thank you for deleting your link. I think I’ll delete my account for a while and go cry, because the reality is that I’m not safe and I probably never will be - even though I’m not the one who reported him to SafeSport, he blames me.
Are you saying that you are the person that put vineyridge’s post on your public twitter or facebook or whatever it was, and that you are unhappy that people noticed it?
Granted, I am not familiar with either twitter or facebook but if this is the case, why on earth are you making your internet musings public? You are being stalked and threatened and public twitter musings seem like a very unwise choice. Are you not able to communicate in private on those internet platforms?
Do be careful. No one wants their trauma to be a “spectator sport”, so don’t share in ways that make it possible.
I have deleted the link in my post at your request. I want to point out that I didn’t intentionally mean you any harm in posting it. Your Twitter post of vineyridges’ vile rhetoric was public, and rather easy to locate, so I wasn’t aware that I did anything wrong. And I do kind of take offense that you would think, based on me sharing your post, that I am somehow not standing with victims and complicit in endangering them. I was totally unaware of your story, and the abuse you suffered. That thought honestly never crossed my mind. But I thank you for pointing it out, and will think twice before posting out links to FB or Twitter in future.
I respect your privacy and I am very sorry for your suffering. I admire all those that have spoken of their abuse on this thread and contributed to the discussion on SS. With few exceptions (vineyridge being one of them), this thread has had thoughtful discussions on the topic and I’ve learned a great deal. The most important being that I’m not alone. #metoo
Very sorry to have caused you any distress @MapleinMay. It was certainly not my intention.
You are not wrong. He referenced and/or alluded to intimate relationships with people older than him of both sexes (IIRC) in Unrelenting.
To everyone else: can we please stop with the replying to Viney? It appears to me all points relevant to the topic at hand have been hashed out and all agree that this poster is out of line and has been for quite some time. I am shocked that they have nearly 30k posts here with the bigoted nonsense that I have seen in just this one thread. It is abhorrent. And apparently this behavior isn’t new. But, if we continue to debate the thread unravels further. Already, this thread is really OT… And now we have an upset survivor lying in the wake of Viney’s vile commentary. I know I am new here, but I don’t think it is out of line to say let’s not allow it to continue (meaning; let’s just ignore it) and let’s get back on topic.
To that end (or maybe I am beating a dead horse here…), does anyone have any further information about Tryon removing his name? Maybe I am reading too much into this, but that seems to me to be a not insignificant development in this case, especially given their public stance in the last week or so. Am I wrong?
I would always laugh when Viney would post photos of TB stallions that she thought would be outstanding sport horse sires. It made me realize that she didn’t have a clue what sporthorse conformation was. I also loved that she would talk about bloodlines on horses that have been dead for a 100 years. Like any trace of that horse is showing up in offspring now. I always thought that Viney was intensely jealous of Fred. I don’t know why, but that jealousy was there for everyone to see.
You know this how?
Much of what you describe would also be true of all slavery throughout human history. It would not be unique to the US. I would certainly agree that among the population of slave owners there were sadists just as there are sadists in the general population today. That was not unique to slavery. You do know that there were laws throughout the slave states to prevent serious maltreatment of slaves; sadists wouldn’t abide by those laws.
Please nobody accept the bait.
I mean…wow…imagine thinking this. Of course you live in Mississippi. No wonder you’re ranked 48 in education.
I see nothing “official” in news or anything - but in the Visitor packet and the map of the facility on their website, its just listed as arena 7 now. But I think someone had pointed that out up thread.
