George Morris on the SS list

The testimonials page :lol::lol: so professional.

And with no name. Don’t those pages usually say something at the end like “Tiffany G. - FL” or some such?

what?! you think that an anonymous ridiculous testimonial isn’t worth the time it took to badly write it?!

 it would be funnier if it weren’t so shameful

Hahahaha. They have the Master of Disaster himself doing PR. You can just hang a sign around your neck thats says “I did it” and save a lot of money. I did not know he was a horse person.

This is also not a type of organization like a real charity, this 501c6. It is to represent business interests. Interesting.

Good for her, this is a good step.

The financial disclaimer IS actually interesting. I say this as someone who used to work in accounting, auditing and corporate compliance though (I admittedly get really interesting in nit noid details about this sort of thing).

They apparently, by their own admission, are APPYLING for 501 c 6 status. A good description of a 501 C 6 is as follows…

”A 501 C (6) organization is tax speak for a business association such as a chamber of commerce. Although they’re organized to promote business, they don’t generate a profit and don’t pay shares or dividends. That qualifies them as non-profit organizations, exempt from paying income tax.”

Additionally, this group has been using a “go fund me” account when soliciting donations…

So… in conclusion… they are ALREADY collecting money, via Go Fund Me, but have not yet actually been awarded their 501 C 6 status as a non profit established.

Yeah… that’s not how legitimate non profits go about handling their fundraising. NOT AT ALL.

@oneequestrienne - that popping up in your feed must be a bit annoying. Uggh.

You weren’t kidding when you said the financial disclaimer was interesting :no:

They disclose that they are APPLYING for 501 c 6 non profit status status.

Here is a good working definition of what a 501 c 6 non profit org is…

“A 501 C (6) organization is tax speak for a business association such as a chamber of commerce. Although they’re organized to promote business, they don’t generate a profit and don’t pay shares or dividends. That qualifies them as non-profit organizations, exempt from paying income tax.”

I had already taken note that they were using a Go Fund Me account to solicit donations.

Soooo… in summary… this group of people and their newly formed organization has rushed out and URGENTLY already started soliciting and collecting money, via a Go Fund Me account, but has not actual yet been awarded 501 c 6 non profit status.

Yeah. That’s not how legitimate non profits typically go about fundraising. :uhoh:

Cute the way they try to make it look as though the site was put together by people from a multitude of different sports.

I’m glad USHJA sent out an email. I feel like they needed to do something with how out of hand people are acting online.

Not surprised about Diane Carney being the president of the board for that nonsense. I remember when this first came out her stating that she has never seen GM act unprofessional. Because children only get molested in broad daylight with plenty of witnesses around 🤦”â™€ï¸

I can’t even view it at work. On my phone via WiFi I get a notification that the website is dangerous. On my work computer it says it’s blocked in accordance with company policy and notes that it will be logged if I view it. Strange. Not strange.

They don’t block much at my work.

They have $5k in their budget for the website… that I could duplicate with a $30 Godaddy account in about 1/2 an hour. They haven’t signed their DNSSEC cert, so yeah, getting flagged as a dangerous site. LOL.

On the plus side, it’s clear that there are not competent people doing this.

This from the FAQ confuses the hell out of me. How is it possible to weaponize reporting? If SS investigates a report and finds it baseless, then it doesn’t go anywhere.

SafeSport has allowed itself to be weaponized against coaches and athletes by people who are motivated by professional jealousy, business disputes, divorces, or attempts to secure financial settlements. Despite ample evidence of this weaponization of the SafeSport process by those with improper motives, SafeSport has steadfastly refused to put in place appropriate safeguards and protections against this weaponization.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/sexual-assault-zachary-gallant-teen-plea-deal-1.5372406

This is a teenager who came forward about sexual assault in NB. It was with an adult and she was under the age of 15. Who knows if she would have come forward on her own, as she told one person what happened with the guy, because she was upset and confused about what happened. It was recorded by her “friend” and released to the school, where people took his side. She tried to commit suicide and it all came out in the wash. She told her story, she made her statements, and in the end, he pleaded to a lesser sentence.

While I was reading it, I could only think, well, imagine it was the 70’s, and it wasn’t some random big brother, but an icon of the sport. Oh yeah, and you were both gay. If in 2019, this can happen, and the charges can be changed to something less then they should, because it happens quite frequently, with the blame being put on the teenager, how can people honestly believe it would be different then, or any less horrific for the victims?

I wonder how the naysayers would feel, reading this article. Not even relating GM, just reading what this teenager went through. Would they feel horrified for her? Would they call it her fault? Say she was being vindictive and trying to ruin the life of someone?

While people speak about the good GM did for the sport, I wonder how many people could have been very good, successful riders, possibly become very good trainers but took a different path due to his abusive teaching style. When I was a kid, my trainer told me I was fat (I wasn’t fat, but I was not the 5’7" 100lb person either). I still remember the first time he said it. I remember it every time my pants are the least bit tight.
I watched GM crucify a student when she did a turn on the forehand instead of the haunches. He called her stupid, said she was wasting his time, her parents money, etc, etc. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe something more significant was going on in her life but since this lesson was acheduled, there was no cancelling it. Perhaps she quit that day. She might have ended up on our Olympic team, but humiliation that day made her give up on her dream.
We have no idea of the casualties along the way, only the successes. One of Nasser’s victims told her dad and he didn’t believe her and made her apologize. Once he found out the truth, he committed suicide.

One of my favorite FB quotes… “Did you just compare someone that trains farm animals to jump over sticks to Albert Einstein?” And the second refers to people riding their luxury pets.

I was fine with this letter and statements until the last paragraph. Way to soft pedal the “difficult and uncomfortable “ time and make “ comfort” a goal. This is what bothers me. This is not Difficult. This is a turning point, pivotal moment. Comfort for survivors ( at least this one) is knowing that the governing body has a the will to aggressively assert support for survivors and a commitment to
protect the future.

I just wonder how much overlap there there is with the governing body and ISWG?

Congratulations on getting that far, I didn’t even get to the FAQ. I quit after the so-called testimonial. I think they’re steering dangerously close to fraud, trying to solicit money like that, but then who would be dumb enough to give them any?

You can see right there on the website who is dumb enough to give them money, although some of them were smart enough to figure out how to donate anonymously. That these people don’t see what an embarrassment that website is speaks volumes.

According to their disclosure statement they are APPLYING for 501 c 6 non profit status… but haven’t gotten it yet. But they have already started collecting money via a Go Fund Me account.

This is NOT how legitimate not for profit organizations typically go about fundraising

The one and only argument they keep trying to pull, that vindictive people will file false reports. Has this even happend once with USEF?

Surprised they didn’t include a disclaimer that anything that happened more than 10 years ago doesn’t count because “the times”.

Ont he FAQ page does it not say the people are brave enough to put their name with the testimonial, then on the testimonial page theres no name LOL

Without reading subsequent posts to determine the general consensus about the athlete’s for equity proposal, I’ll express my thoughts. My immediate reply is why people would advocate creating yet another level to the already bloated bureaucracy of committees. And how long would it be for this new association to make a ruling that other folks would not like and start their own alphabet soup committee.

Furthermore, this seems to be an equestrian initiative and does not involve input from other athletes in Olympic sports.

In general, when folks agree to go to binding arbitration, they are agreeing to abide by the findings of the “judge,” whether the issue I involves a divorce, a labor contract or anything else. I can only conclude that Mr. Morris was pretty confident of the outcome, which pretty much coincides with what appears to be his personality.
If we have concerns about the current situation, which I do not because the only showing I do is limited to schooling shows, we need to work within the framework to improve the situation.
