George Morris on the SS list

I don’t think SafeSport is in the business of expanding its reach (not to mention the cost of investigations) to all the possible infractions out there. Did you want speeding and tax evasion to be “ban-able” offenses as well? Also, and to be clear, using a fake ID to get into a bar does not rise to the level of molesting children. And don’t even imply that anyone deserves rape or harassment as punishment, or even a predictable (let alone deserved) consequence of lying to get into a bar. Just don’t even go there.

But my point stands: Does any adult, half-way moral reader of Lolita really see her as the causal agent of their affair?

In a word, no.

The problem is most people (probably 99%) who make that allusion haven’t read the book, they just think they’re being smart.

Fake IDs are indeed very common, but they’re generally just used to gain access to alcohol … not to try to convince an older person that you’re of age to consent to sex, then subsequently report them to SafeSport for having sex with a minor. That scenario, while certainly not impossible, is what I was referring to as being unlikely.

Incredibly helpful broadcast on SafeSport. I learned a lot and appreciate the speaker’s patience with the people who asked questions afterwards.

That part was enlightening, too. Holy cow.

I suspect the main problem is that relatively few people using the descriptor “Lolita” have read the novel.

Make sure you put your helmet on before you start the head banging. USEF obviously needs intelligent people.

It was a pretty embarrassing show put on by the questioners in the audience.

Although it has been years since I read Lolita (in either high school or college), I just remember not feeling much pity for Humbert. He acted as if he was an innocent victim of the horror he created. It was Lolita’s fault, never his own issues for everything that befell him.

I do wonder if the ISWG crowd read Lolita, would they see her as the temptress and Humbert as the victim?

That would explain a lot for the victim shaming and histrionic reactions of the ISWG crowd.

It sure was. And if there was a drinking game where you took a shot anyone said something about “supporting safe sport” that was then followed by a qualifier… (“safe sport is great but… that banned list…” etc) I’d be drunker than some of those ladies sounded.

Poor Moroney had to practically shout that the USEF SUPPORTS SAFE SPORT in his closing speech. He explained that USEF understood that many of its members couldn’t comprehend Safe Sport (too much info at once) so they hired a communications firm to explain it.

God what a PR disaster for USEF if parents only listened to the questions from the audience.

Way to sound like an organization made up of people that can’t comprehend a simple concept, even when explained in detail, and who thought a few cocktails before hand was a good idea.

On the bright side the audience heckled the people asking dumb questions.

…and Mary Babick and Bill Moroney came across as intelligent adults, albeit in charge of a band of idiots.

I hope it will be available to view on demand. I missed it. Just caught the last question about “ the fee” that doesn’t exist .

Not according to the ‘reformers’. Michael Henry ‘lied!’ and the questioners were great!

Really wish I could have heard the hecklers better.

The lady banging on and on about the $6500 fee… that really was a low point.

I wish I knew who was who when they were speaking.
