Came across this mare selling in the January Keeneland sale - lots of interesting German bloodlines: http://www.pedigreequery.com/orion+moon
At least 9 crosses to Tourbillon!
Wish the catalog included photos!

Well, this doesn’t really help, but I’m pretty sure this is a picture of her here.
As impressive as the Tourbillon to me is that she has one of the Waldrun mare line stallions in her damline–Windwurf. The Waldrun line stallions have done exceptionally well in sport horse breeding.
Not much more helpful, but found this:

I have personal experience with Monsun, Platini, Windwurf and Lagunas offspring and cannot say enough nice things about them. SUPER minds (this is a sport horse rider speaking, not a racing person), super jump, very rideable and proven absolutely beyond a doubt. What a stunning pedigree. Hopefully the horse will match up to it in real life!
Thanks everyone for the additional info on the bloodlines and the photos. I’d love to have her as a broodmare, but sadly I have no room for any more horses right now. Even if I had space, I doubt that I could afford her, given her bloodlines, age, and race record. That said, I’ll be kicking myself big time if she sells for $1000!
I can safely say that she will not sell for $1000
A bit OT since this mare’s not of German breeding, but she’s in the Keeneland January Sale, Meadow Vista.
I get distracted by looking through sales catalogs for pedigrees I like. I’d be happy to have that mare as a pasture puff for “bragging rights.”

You will need to add at least two zeros to that price and probably a great deal more.
I think I have expensive taste. I found 2 Indian Ridge mares that I liked in the Keeneland November catalog–RNA’d for $390,000 and $70,000!
Like Peaches, I’m easily distracted by sale catalogs…fun to dream.
I love sales catalogues. They’re like an encyclopedia of TB families and they make for great reading (and studying).
I saw Orion Moon at Keeneland earlier today and she is drop dead gorgeous. With her looks and that catalogue page, I’d be shocked if she doesn’t bring a lot of money.

LOL, yup. Listed placed winner in France, Just got beat in the Beaugay Stakes, Grade 3 at Belmont. A Belmont allowance winner. Nice family. I would bet she goes for over $300,000++. If it were me I think I would have thought about breeding her and selling her at Tattersalls next fall. I think the family would get more respect over there. Wouldn’t surprise me if she is bought on “spec” shipped and covered across the pond and resold for a nice profit next fall. Depending on what she brings here.
Darn, lost track of my dates. I had really wanted to see her go through the ring. Looks like Shadai Farms bought her for 230K
you do have expensive tastes; she went for $230,000!
Going to Japan…chalk up another loss of hard-to-find TB sport horse bloodlines for North America. <sigh>
Sad to see her go but in that price range, she wasn’t going to be part of any sport horse program. As a racing person, I;d love to see more mares like her in the US.
PS, GumTree, I’m going to be in your area this weekend, I’d love to stop in any say hello in person!
Right about that, but my thought is that if there were more racehorses bred like that in this country, there would be more available for sport horses. It’s frustrating that so many TB pedigrees all look the same and that so many of the older bloodlines have become so difficult, if not impossible, to find.
Exactly Zipperfoot. If there were more racehorses bred like that there would be more available for sport. That mare was never destined to produce an Oldenburg, but her slow offspring might have made nice jumpers.
