German TB bloodlines

FWIW, Drumtop was the dam of Drums of Time who was one of very few stallions to have multiple starters at Burghley and/or Badminton in the same year.

VERY nice pedigree!

Thoroughbred showjumpers, some with a video:

Elles, I appreciate your contributions to this thread, but I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make. Are these examples of American TB bloodlines in European jumpers? Please clarify.

Also, does anyone know how to view the foreign-language pages in English? I figure there’s probably a way to do it on this end, but I just don’t know how, being a little technologically slow…

What I am trying to show is that a good sport horse thoroughbred does not really depend on racing distance as racing distance also depends on training. Also there are enough examples of good sporthorses bred out of TB lines that seemed to be speed lines. There are lines that are considered stamina lines that also show(ed) lots of speed and the other way around. What I am trying to say is that a good sport horse TB can as well come from America, New Zealand, Ireland, Germany, austalia, France, the UK, etc.
I think lots of good TB’s go unnoticed because they are never being tried. Although from some TB’s or TB lines there have not been a lot of good performer but there have been coming lots and lots of good performers from TB lines in general.

Most things with regard to TB’s in sport horse breeding and performances depend on what people do and decide and not so much on the TB horses themselves. We have to give the horses chances to prove themselves in a unbiased way. The horses cannot do that for us.

Sorry, I am not in a position to translate everything. Not because I cannot read German but because I simply do not have the time.

The title of the topic means:
What is progress in breeding when using Thoroughbred?

The topic contains a number of examples of German TB lines used in sport horse breeding.

Ist der Steher wirklich der ideale Vollbluttyp für die Warmblutzucht?
Means: is the stayer really the ideal type of TB for warmblood breeding?

Adequate counter-proposal to the stayer is miler with speed. The horses are successful at middle distances and convince compared to the stayers with a higher acceleration. Significantly the ability of the miler to accelerate before the finish line, to really go and use the last reserves is what Warmblood breeders are in fact looking for.

I could translate short pieces of text for you Zipperfoot. Is there anything in particular that you would like to have translated?

Good sporthorses have come from bloodlines that are linked to all types of distances:

Der Rückgang der Holsteiner Dominanz im Springsport korreliert wunderbar mit der nichtmehrnutzung von VB in Holstein.
The decline of the Holsteiner dominance in jumping wonderfully correlates with the longer disuse of TB in Holstein.

Docs Hickory is one of the best cutting horse sires. If you look at his pedigree you can see that he had a high TB%. Cutting horses have to be very athletic and have to have very good reflexes. Is that not what we look for in sporthorses? It looks like the TB horse gave the QH a lot of it’s athletic abilities. But nowadays the TB is deemed no longer suitable for showjumping because the courses have become too technical.

Of course what we do not want in a sporthorse is a downhill conformation.
