I’m so, so sorry for these horrific losses. I can’t even imagine what you’re feeling but I am sickened and furious. >:[
De Ja Vu…spelling?
In the 90’s where I used to live in BC, there was a weirdo going ‘round and tying horses’ back legs together, slicing one leg at the hock and apparently draining the blood…for occult purposes one can only imagine. If I remember correctly it was around this time of year also and it went in cycles of years. So it must be an occult cycle thing and I heard of it happening in the UK as well. A local vet proclaimed in the local rag that it was a COUGAR on the rampage…we do have them here, but what’s with the rope found still attached to one horse? A cougar with equipment? No one was ever caught that I heard of. I was quite nervous about it. It was a hot summer and my little house that I rented was surrounded by horse pasture. I would get up 3-4 times in the night and go outside and check on each and every horse…only one of which was mine. One night some of them were laying down and I freaked! running to each one to check on them. They looked up sleepily at me in the dim yardlight and I hugged them thankfully. It really unnerved a lot of us horse people and it only happened that one year. It’s either occult or some terribly sick demented person.
If it was me, I would be sleeping outside with the horses with a pack of big dogs, airport lights on my pickup and I’d nail the ___ with a two barrel. Here you can shoot dogs that come on your property if you have livestock. This person is no more than a twisted piece of DNA in a wasted skin suit. I have NO tolerance for cruelty and no patience for the justice system. Gwen, get out there and kick some ass!! If I lived in Germany, I would be there by your side. People like this never seem to get caught. It’s time they learn what trespassing really means!!

a pack of big dogs,[/QUOTE]
What an excellent idea! Livestock dogs! I hear they can be very aggressive protecting their livestock.
Livestock dogs (mean as hell German Shephards), big big guns. People that would do something like this don’t deserve a trial. Shoot first & don’t bother with asking any questions. Then feed the SOBs to the dogs.
Gwen, wish you were closer. We’d all get together & do night watch for you for sure. So sorry this has happened to you & your horses.
Oh Christ Gwen. Hideous doesn’t begin to cover it.
I’m so sorry for you.
Guns are not permitted in Ireland either but a landowner can get a rifle buy permit. My landlord has one here. And the law states he would be well within his right to use it in this situation. Like and landowner doesn’t mean you have an acre and grow potatoes. There are specifics. And there would be a vigilante posse here that would definitely stay watch. Too bad I can’t send them to Gwen for a few weeks.

I’m with you.
This is one of the most horrifying things I’ve ever seen.
I’d be shooting to kill. I have no idea what gun laws are like in Germany. Do regular folks have guns?
I hope the police are taking this seriously.
And… one last thought (if I can stop crying and wiping my nose long enough to type) – the foal and the stake… that’s not the work of just one person, IMO. That had to take more than two hands to get done.
I am thinking of you, Gwen and praying that whoever did this gets precisely what they deserve. I wish we were all there to help keep watch. And I’m a good shot.
I’m wondering if Gwen will be reading this eventually. What is her ID name?
Depending on how large her farm is, one could light up the whole place and put video cams in at some expense. If guns are not allowed, I’m sure dogs are. I would hire someone to take a scent dog to the scene of the murder of that foal and try to pick up a trail. I don’t know how these weirdos are getting away with these ritualistic killings. It’s evil. I agree with the poster that said there had to be more than one person involved. I’m wondering where the mother of the foal was…did she survive? My broodmare would have KILLED anyone that threatened her babies.
How about acquiring an Akbash or Maremma dog for guarding the herd? They will do anything to protect what is theirs. Trouble is, it’s recommended to get these dogs when they are puppies due to their independant and territorial natures. Gwen needs something she can use right away.
How about friends watching at night in shifts with dogs…and some kind of a weapon. Have some horses saddled and ready to go if the dogs give the alert that someone is out there. Let dogs loose and follow the trail if visual is gone. This group needs to be exposed for what it is. The time cycles are not coincidental. It’s either an isolated maniac on the loose or a ritualistic killer group…IMO. The latter is extremely secretive, conniving and dangerous. Handle with caution. They will do anything not to get caught.
How anyone could ever do that to a sweet, young and trusting animal… it’s heartbreaking.
What a tragic and horrible situation. I cannot imagine the sick and twisted mind that would do something like this. I too would be getting livestock guardian dogs. Perhaps getting torn to shreds by large LGDs would be a fitting punishment for this sicko.
I am so very very sorry Gwen
I’m terribly sorry for Gwen. The thought of discovering one of your foals like that is sickening.
It looks ritualistic to me. Let’s hope the police are aware of the link between ritualistic killing of animals and abuse/torture/killing of people. They have got to take this seriously and break the ring who are doing it.
I agree.
I hope they get this person/people before they get to any more horses…
I would be willing to foster the use of a few of these dogs to patrol

My deepest sympathies to Gwen and everyone else at Gestuet Falkenhorst on these incredibly tragic losses.
I hope that no further attacks occur and that the responsible person is caught and brought to justice.
How absolutely sickening.
I too suggest LGD’s however they are probably not going to help in the short term
Sickening to read about this. My thoughts are going out to Gwen, I hope they catch whoever is doing this. Just terrible.
I cannot believe how sick some people are. I wish I had the right words to say how sorry I am for you . I am praying that this evil person is caught and this comes to an end.
Oh Gwen, I am SO incredibly sorry for the horrific nightmare you are going through right now!
As much as I respect life, I have to admit to being a bit partial to vigilante justice~ there would be no warning shot fired at my farm if that sort of terror was inflicted on any of my 4-legged “kids”.
The extreme nature of the tragic cruelty that Gwen and her foals have endured, is heartbreaking. Simply heartbreaking.
I don’t even know what to say, that’s so horrible.
I am so sorry for your loss.
