Self Defense.

I am so sorry for the loss of your foals, Gwen. No one should have to go through something that horrible. :frowning:

It makes my blood boil that the police in your area are not taking these crimes seriously.

It’s the most heartbreaking and despicable act I could imagine. Considering how large the horse industry is in Germany with the State Stud, large breeding farms, etc. I would think they would be up in arms about this incident and get the police more involved.

Penny, You make a very good point. Is there outrage?

Germany is about the size of the state of Wisconsin. Everyone has to know about this.

Do you think it was directed at you personally Gwen or was it more random in that your horses happened to be convenient/easy pickings than others?

Oh Gwen, I am so sorry for your loss, the poor baby. Humans can be the cruelest species, the only animal that kills for something other than food. I can’t believe how horrific a feeling to see your horses in peril or worse.

Could it be the economic downturn that is causing this destruction? People tend to believe that those of us with horses are rich. Very sad, I so hope that these cruel people can be found and receive true punishment.

I’m so, so sorry. I hope the bastard who is doing this is caught, and soon.

Gwen, I’m sure you are still in shock and just totally sick over all of this, I don’t know how I would find peace or recovery, but certainly pray you can. I just wonder if you could hire someone “undercover” who could be trusted and is capable of putting his or her ear to the ground for information that might lead you to the thing that is responsible. I guess I’m just trying to think outside the box since the police aren’t interested. If any other breeders are nearby, perhaps they would be interested in trying to nail this thing. I think we all want a few moments with whoever is caught …

I’m so sickened and upset by this, Gwen my heart just pours out to you/for you!

It is so easy to say “I would” but Gwen is doing everything 100% she can with her circumstances. I admit I am also sickened by the philosophy authorities in this case have regarding animal cruelty. Anyone who has studied mass murderers knows they often start with animals. It is a known fact that people like this will and often do gravitate to murder of people. If authorities think animals are that disposable not to even do anything about it, do they ignore the facts and research behind HUMAN murderers? You have a person/people where huge red flags should be going up, and they have the opportunity to catch them before it escalates, and I’m so saddened the ignorance that seems to be in play. And even more sickened for Gwen to not have the support and help of her local authorities who should be doing everything they can to help her :frowning: To be dealing with something like this is unthinkable, but to be dealing with it alone? How would you ever know when it is done? To be living in that fear 24/7? I cannot express in words the sympathy I truly wish I could convey…This is just horrible :frowning:

“Gee officer, I thought it was a coyote”?

“Gee officer, I thought it was a coyote”?
“He said he was going to kill me. I thought he had a gun.”

or

“Officer, he came at me with that stake he was about to stab into my foals.”

Where’s the damn <like> button!

Unfortunately, public outcry is not going to help someone who would be up for first degree murder charges. It’s not considered a crime of passion (temporary insanity) if it is premeditated. If, for example, the owner was to catch the person in the act the first time this happened and did something they would later regret…it could be potentially be considered temporary insanity.

To be honest, I’m surprised at the number of people who have stated they’d shoot them spot on. Hopefully emotions are just running high. So many other consequences come with killing another human being…whether they are not worth being on this earth or not. The best thing to do would be to bang down the doors of the authorities until someone listens.

Incidents like this happen everywhere, just not in Germany…we just rarely hear about them. I lost two horses, brutally, in a similar situation almost 10 years ago, but it never made the papers and I rarely talk about it as it was very traumatic. While I fantasized about hurting the individual dearly, I certainly wouldn’t have risked going to prison for the rest of my life over it. We contacted a local search and rescue team to help out.

My heart goes out to Gwen. :frowning: It is not something I would wish on my worst enemy.
You are spot on. I too am surprised at all the people claiming to be willing to kill a human. Of course this outrageous but killing another human?

I feel for you Gwen. I would keep up with the authorities as much as you can. I am so so sorry.

Human? Sorry, that thing is not human.

I can’t imagine how horrifying this must be for anyone who has been victimized like this.

Gwen, I am so very sorry for your losses. :frowning:

There are no words to express what I’m feeling toward this horror of a human being.
