Getting permanent marker to stick to dry erase board?

I’m gifting my BO a feed board, where I can list all the horses, grain, supplements, meds, etc.

I’ve managed many barns where the feed room board was already set up for me-- I simply wrote in the data I needed and wiped to erase when things changed. I never gave a moment’s thought to the permanently drawn lines that make up the chart.

The dry erase board is ready. I have 2 kinds of permanent marker-- both disappear to practically a smear in no time. What am I doing wrong? Should I pre-treat the board with something? Use a different kind of marker?

Stuck. Can you guys help? Something that you PERSONALLY have used successfully? Not just what you read somewhere or googled? Thanks so much…

Try a “wet erase” marker. These require water to be removed and will stay on the board if you only use a cloth or foam eraser for the other marker.

The ones I’ve seen had the lines put on with electric tape.

Use thin black tape, car detailing stuff works well.

We used this tape. Couldn’t get the marker to stay. I use it at work all the time.

We.use tape.

I also used the very thin black tape. I got it at Staples.

When you pick up a sharpie by mistake and write on the dry erase board, it’s almost impossible to remove without alcohol. Funny that a sharpie on purpose won’t stay on!

Huh. I used a big fat sharpie. It doesn’t come off at all.

Another vote for tape. It works amazing and you can get it in colors.
Something like This stuff.

This has been my experience.

I’m also a fan of using the “thin tape” and you can also get “stick on” letters in a various sizes.

G.

I use the tape, as well. Here is a calendar I created on a plain white board to log my riding using the tape as an example: (Now that I look at it, I could have been neater with it! :))

For this problem, when you accidentally use permanent, just write directly over the mark with a dry erase marker. Dry erase markers are LOADED with solvents, which will lift the perm. ink right off.

I would think a paint pen would work but it’s a lot easier to do straight lines with tape.

This is a pop up ad that showed up in this thread, kinda creepy but has lots of ideas and supplies like the charting tape:

Try a Sharpie Pro.
We use these at work and the only thing I’ve found that takes it off is rubbing alcohol.

I’m guessing by permanent you mean “not dry erase”. Try a Sharpie - they write on all kinds of surfaces, including glass, and are pretty hard, if not impossible to remove without solvent (alcohol, acetone, etc) of some type.

That is one of the best tips I have ever learned from my kids teachers.

Might try cleaning the board with alcohol to get rid of any coating put on it.

“When you pick up a sharpie by mistake and write on the dry erase board, it’s almost impossible to remove without alcohol.” LOL - old administrative assistant’s trick: the chemical in the dry erase ink that makes it erasable, works on permanent marker too. If you have Sharpie on a white board, write over the permanent stuff with a dry erase marker. It will come right off. No alcohol required.
