Getting to be that time, Flasks

So we are getting into hunt season and I am looking for some flask fillers. I like something a little bit sweet but not creamy, so looking for something that will work well on very wet cold days.

What are your go to flask filler?

The go to crowd pleaser of our hunt is “chick flask”, equal parts butterscotch schnapps and Myers rum. The ladies always flock to the gentleman who carries it

Personally I LOVE the Evan Williams seasonal Apple Orchard, but I think they changed the name to Kentucky Cider. It’s great chilled or warm. Apple with just enough spice and cinnamon. If I run out of that I will sub with port.

Other popular drinks in my hunt is port with fireball or red stag.

This sounds good. I will have to give it a try.

I carry 2/3 Bushmill’s Irish Honey, 1/3 Ginger liqueur.

Most of the fellow women on my hunt were aghast that I drink whiskey–until they tried it. The Irish Honey is a sweeter whiskey that goes down smoothly on its own and the ginger adds a nice warming spice.

One of our masters carries Licor 43 straight up and it is sweet and spicy. I like it for a sip, but I find it pretty sweet–someone compared it to liquid dessert once and that was fitting.

I suppose because I don’t eat before I hunt, an alcohol mix in my flask goes straight to my head and makes me tipsy. I stick to water but wish I could figure a way to carry hot tea.

Foxglove (I do carry peppermints for my horse, however).

One if my go-to cooler weather drinks is a combination of butterscotch schnapps and maple whisky, basically mixed in whatever ratio appeals to me in the moment. Want it sweeter? Less whisky, more schnapps. Bit more bite? More whisky, less schnapps.

My favourite maple whisky is Knob Creek’s smoky maple bourbon. Canadian Club does a decent maple whisky too. Crown Royal is a bit too artificial for my liking, but appeals to some people.

I have some bottles of brandy. What can I add/infuse them with to make it extra tasty?

Foxglove, I’m thinking about trying Crystal Lite (perhaps the Peach/Mango & Peach mix I like to drink at work) in my flask.

Mocha-tini espresso vodka, Godiva chocolate liqueur and baileys

Hot Damn a cinnamon schnapps.

A good quality port.

Wild Turkey Honey

whoa, wait, can we just go back to smoky maple bourbon for a second? Or maybe an hour… Thanks for the bad influence, CS!

Oh, to contribute, I suspect I found this on a prior flask thread or a link in one, but if you have a sweet tooth, a mixture of Frangelico and Bailey’s can’t be beat. I wonder if adding a little brandy or something would balance it a bit better. Now if it would only cool off a bit.

It’s amazing!!! Smooth enough to sip straight, bold enough to stand out in a cocktail. Love it!

One sip of alcohol makes me have to tinkle almost immediately, so I think I would try all of these at the clubhouse only - unless astronaut diapers are considered formal attire  All of these mixes sound good for a fall party too!

Slightly on and off topic at the same time - where do fox hunters “potty up” during a hunt? I would love to try fox hunting, but the longest I can usually last without a potty break is 90 minutes ish ??

Nothing like a nice 18 year old Scotch! That’s my preference, but it’s in my flask only for high days and holy days.
Otherwise we mix Gentleman Jack with American Honey Ghost Pepper. Mix at whatever ratio you choose. Delicious!
I’m hoarding two bottles of Buffalo Trace Bourbon Creme, which is absolutely fantastic and I’m not big on creme liqueurs either, but this cannot be beaten

Well I am officially unqualified to answer this since I don’t yet hunt (but aspire to). However, when on a trail ride and you have to go, you dismount, find a spot and there you go. My horse often likes to use that opportunity for her potty break as well. On a hunt, I suppose you just need to time it so the group is at a lull so to speak (waiting for hounds to catch the scent)?

It’s a strategic maneuver… basically you hold it until you can find a ‘private’ opportunity, wherever it may be. I whip-in and have been known to dismount in the middle of the field as long as everyone is out of sight… not too discrete but when you gotta go you gotta go!! I have invested in a Go-Girl and may try to figure out how to pack in it my sandwich case, I’ve used it a few times and it is much easier than having to find a place to squat. But it does take some practice…

All these suggestions are great!!!

Did you order yours online? I’ve thought about one for trail riding but the only store within 20 miles of me is a sex toy store. Weird. I thought it would be sold at camping/outdoor stores.

Maybe tack shops should start carrying them?

Thank you for the Go-Girl link. I have heard about this but never seen them.
