The mob demands pictures! Or video! Or both!
I can’t get pics to upload bc they are too big, but here is a video from last summer.
@dynamite0319, I can see why you like your Ghostzapper gelding! Interestingly, he resembles the GZ colt we bred that I talked about upthread. That colt is still racing, mostly in NY, with earnings of 150K so far. He’s not the most talented racehorse but he’s stayed very sound and earned his keep, which are always good things.
Best of luck with your boy!
@LaurieB I’ve definitely stalked your horse! Lots of the GZ offspring have a similar look and appear to have mostly great brains. I would have trouble exercising much self control if another GZ were near me and available to purchase…
In the RRP entries from last year, there is a GZ mare, and she’s for sale, and near me. Fortunately for me, she’s priced way out of my price range!
I’ve continued to fall in love with my new boy, though the BITEYFACE stuff could stop anytime now! Stall rest is hard.
There are two GZ mares that I saw for sale in the 2018 RRP group, which actually surprises me. Considering Justify is out of a daughter of GZ I’d think they would be pretty popular even if they didn’t win on the track. But I suppose they may not have the “right” bloodlines on their dam’s side…
@dynamite0319 @Bensmom
I just got a 3 YO by Ghostzapper - seems like there’s lots of similarities. My guy is down for anything, noble look but stockier build, a bit mouthy but very sweet and curious, and has a fantastic canter with a huge upstep. He even has the same questionable looking front left knee - he’s a little over at the knee / uneven right below the knee on the front of the canon. I had it x rayed, flexed, and he’s sound on it, but it seems to swell up from time to time. Vet & X-rays gave the all clear so we are going to just continue doing our thing and be mindful of it.
There’s one 7YO GZ baby right now for sale at Benchmark Sport horses too, will be interesting to follow him if he ends up in a competition home! Big upstep, nice looking canter.
Any updated experiences / updates on soundness and personality? How much more jumping has your guy done since your last update in 2019? I am hoping to event mine.
@Chitterchitter congratulations! Simon has been foxhunting now since November 2018 and he’s fabulous at his job! We have hunted in Texas, Montana, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Georgia!
We have had some soundness challenges, though. He’s not been stepping up with his left hind and we are still working through that and not exactly sure what is causing it. We did radiographs on his hocks, back and stifle and found it his left stifle to not have ideal conformation so thinking that may be it. The good news is that he’s not off otherwise and is able to still be in work. My vet advised against a showing career, which is fine since he’s mostly just foxhunting. Simon is only 8 now so we (hopefully) have a lot of time left to get him back on track!
As far as personality he’s still super easy. I can catch him in a 7 acre pasture. He loads in the trailer easily. Generally isn’t spooky (he is a horse, so normal things will scare him). We have worked cattle. Gone on a ton of trail rides. He crosses water and is generally quite brave. He does seem to get ulcery when travelling or stressed too much. He’s the “silent worrier” type so it isn’t really obvious when his tummy hurts, he just seems agitated and I know something is up.
I’d still buy another GZ in a heartbeat! Congrats on your boy! Find Libby and me on Instagram and Facebook! We use the #ghostzapperclique hashtag to keep up with each other.
