Girth fit questions

Hi all! Tack fit post!

I posted a while ago about my girth doing crazy things over fences. After I posted, I ended up having knee surgery and taking 4 months off. I’m only just starting to really ride again.

I took advantage of black friday to get a wellfleet monoflap anatomic jumping girth from smartpak, but I never had the chance to try it on him until last month when I started short rides.

This is my first monoflap jump saddle and my first anatomic girth. I’m not 100% sure it’s even on right! This orientation seems to be best, but it leaves a gap behind the straps and doesn’t look fully right - thoughts?

This is the old girth https://imgur.com/a/MqJkDhO
This is the new one https://imgur.com/a/Oa7jGX5 (I haven’t ridden in 4 months after surgery, my form isn’t good)

Thoughts? Does the leather fit despite the gap or does it just need to break in some?

I agree, the orientation seems correct (the cutouts are lined up with his elbows). I can’t really see any gaps in the photo but if they’re there, that’s not ideal.

Someone posted a nifty graphic on girths, published by Mattes, on a different thread a while back. I found it quite interesting - did you see it too?

We need to see a picture of the new girth with the shoulder. It looks in that picture that the buckles might be sitting on the nerve behind the elbow.

Looks like you need to girth up the second girth strap a hole or two more?

Could be the girth straps on the saddle stretched.

Try that.

It’s as tight as I can get it, I can’t go another hole. I’m thinking about trying it on another horse to see if it does the same thing before I sell it.
