You will never see that which you do not wish to see.
Oh , please…
I don’t think anyone has presented him as an exceptional human.
We all know about the Totilas controversy. There were people that were LIVID at Schockemöhle for taking him from Edward Gal. There were people who were sure that Schockemöhle was treating him poorly.
We also all know that it was quite a few years back, and at the time Rollkur was en Vogue. Realistically, it was difficult to find GP trainers who weren’t using it in some fashion. The judges rewarded it in the ring, stewards didn’t stop it in warm up, and it was used pretty consistently across Europe and parts of the USA. If you watch old GP’s from this time, you can actually see it being used in the show ring.
Does that make the practice ok? No.
But the thing is; it changed. People were educated that it wasn’t an ok training technique, and they stopped it. Rules got stricter about making sure there was no place for it at shows. Now it’s pretty much universally not tolerated anymore. **
So you are linking old articles pointing out that Edward Gal and Schockemöhle and others used Rollkur, and it’s not new news. I could probably find footage of most of the top trainers back then using it to some varying degree. But can you show that he uses it now?
Or did he learn, change his ways, and grow as a better person; the only thing we can strive for?
** yeah, some trainers still do it behind closed doors. But it’s really gone out of fashion because you can’t warm up with it at a show, so it’s not a very helpful technique anymore.
I could link to ubiquitous articles about Vladimir Putin’s State sponsored murders, his stealing from his citizens, money to enrich himself and his cronies, and (oh, yes) committing war atrocities against unarmed civilians and their animals as we speak. But yeah, let’s complain about Schockmole’s faults as he tries to help the refugees.
I am absolutely stunned by your attitude. It is very difficult for me to understand why, for some odd reason in your mind, you seem to feel that you must “choose” between the old use of rolkur in horse training of which you disapprove (most people don’t approve, don’t you know?) and the welfare of men, women and children, people who are being indiscriminately slaughtered, their pets and horses among them.
@MHM thanks for linking the article. It’s good to see that people are pitching in to help.
Well that’s nice… the rest of us choose horses AND to celebrate humanitarian efforts. IMAGINE THAT.
Yay for you!!
That’s a really nice thing for him to do.
The effort being made by civilians in Europe to help Ukrainian refugees is awe inspiring.
What a strange notion, some people struggle to see that, you can do both. Certainly the displaced people of Ukraine need all the help that can be offered at the moment.
Looks like Elinor Rigby has left the building.
That was totally unnecessary. It says a lot about you that you would make such a remark.
I’m no PS fan, but I think it’s great that he’s making an effort and putting his resources to good use.
I know many other BNT’s in my general area (I live in Europe) also making an effort and using their horse transporters/trucks to rescue or bring supplies. That’s the only “good” in this mess; seeing humanity come together, regardless of other beliefs/issues/matters, and lending a helping hand.
Yes, I’ve read accounts of trucks bringing in supplies and taking out people and animals so they have a full load both directions. It’s wonderful to see all the efforts to help.
And of course, just as in practically any crisis in recent memory, Chef Andres and his group are there preparing meals and feeding people left and right.
Okay. Yay for you, you got me good.
