Zenyatta’s filly was in a paddock accident and was put down. I was so looking forward to watching this one grow up. Godspeed little (big) one.
I just saw this on Facebook! How awful.
I am absolutely and completely devastated by this news. My heart goes out to Z, Ann and Jerry Moss, and all who loved her.
Crap…did not see this. I was looking forward to seeing her grow up too.
Oh crap…
Heartbreaking. They can be so fragile sometimes. Godspeed beautiful girl
So sad to lose a baby like that.
Horses will break your heart.

Awww.
I went to Kentucky a few years ago and on the way to somewhere, pulled over to watch a pasture full of yearlings cavorting. They were dashing madly about, chasing each other, spooking, play fighting, and my heart was in my throat a couple of times to see a near-miss hoof to head. It is easy to see how accidents can happen with a group of rowdy youngsters, but there is no real solution. They need to have that space, that company, and that play time to develop.
My own mare had a hoof-sized section of flesh on her forehead peeled away to the bone a few years ago. Right before it happened she had been bucking and playing with her companion, so we figured she just didn’t see it coming. I’m sure those of you who breed have long lists of disasters.
Poor baby.
Such sad news. My heart goes out to everyone at Lane’s End Farm.

Oh crap…:([/QUOTE]
This. I know stuff happens to horses no matter how hard we all try, but it was still like a punch in the stomach to read. Much sympathy to all those who are part of Z’s team…
I received the email from Blood Horse and just about died when I read it.
Beyond heartbreaking.
So sad.
Heartbreaking. Godspeed little one.
There was just something about this one that touched me. Probably the fact that she was such a mini me. Her chestnut colt looks to be a lovely horse but the chestnut part bugged me. I don’t even want to think about what could have happened to her because it had to have been horrific as you know they would have gone to any lengths to save her even if just as a broodmare. It’s always heartbreaking to lose a little one because they hold so much promise of what may be in their little bodies, not to mention being so darn cute. So sad.
I’m having a tough week anyway, but this set me to bawling when I read it. She was so lovely. So much like her mama.
So sad to see this. The little Z looked just like her mom, I was very excited to watch her grow up.
Laurie, I had the exact same thought process regarding, IF it were in any way a salvageable injury, they would have tried, even if only to make her a broodmare. For the filly’s sake I hope it was catastrophic enough that she didn’t suffer for long.
She made it to the hospital so they must have thought she had a shot initially. I really feel for whoever was the one to spot her and figure out who it was.
Heartbreaking. Damn it.
How horrible. So sad for her people.
The War Front filly… darn it.
