Good Guinness Missing

This page gives show results and lists 2 “Con-Airs”.

Numbers 365 & 420 (and different owners)
Yes, they’re the two I listed. The one owned by Gavin, and the one most likely to be the correct Con-Air, except that the one photo that we think is of him shows chrome.

Exactly. And GG is showing in the Low Juniors at Gulfport, it is not as if they are leased it out as a Grand Prix horse.
The only interesting thing is that the horse was shown in the Open classes by the trainer if they thought they had a Children’s jumper why show it in those classes unless the other horse was expected to have that kind of scope too…Just because a horse does the Children’s (3’6-3’9) doesn’t mean the horse is not scopey enough to do more…
Well in all fairness, if you’re an Olympic gold medalist, you may just think, “Damn I’m good! Childrens schmildrens, this one has more than that!”
I would hope, you think “dang, this one could go all the way” and keep it for yourself

Actually I would think, having ridden in the same league, that you might actually recognize the horse. But as someone pointed out, it’s very likely that these transactions were in Mclain’s name only and he had nothing to do with it, other than allowing his name to be used since Barney is banned.

I can see it happening. You are looking for a black horse with a star to come off the trailer. It does. Its papers say “black horse with star.” That checks out. No one has the vet come out to run a microchip under those circumstances. Would you have?
When you are expecting to see a breed brand and it isn’t there…I’d be curious.

Same thing about GG. An ISH shows up with Holsteiner brand??? Wouldn’t someone be curious?

Could be any number of reasons. Some said the horse was a hard ride, so the weekday classes could be prep for a kid trying to move up to the low juniors. All speculation, of course. What open classes did the pro show in?

I think part of the answer is that people are NOT curious. And furthermore, most people are not attentive to details.

star

1.30m. The junior seems to have been showing at 1.30m and 1.35m.

I don’t think it strange at all that the trainer showed the horse. My trainer has shown my horse many times for different reasons… According to USEF, the junior also rode in an open class.

some brands are really hard to see…

Geesh! Right about now I’m wondering how the young girl feels that was leasing GG aka Kanye? Read that the lease began in Sept.

Two comments.

 1. The jr. rider who has been riding GG has gotten 6 months of the ride of a lifetime!

 2. I can’t possibly, in a million years, imagine why this was not found immediately when the missing GG was brought to the attention of the shippers. The fact that this had to be “unearthed” by people on the internet doesn’t reflect well on the people involved, whether there were nefarious motives or not. If this was truly an honest mixup it should have been uncovered the DAY GG was found to be missing.

It isn’t.

You can find the show photographer from Aiken Fall Festival, and there are pictures (sorted by horse’s name) of him in there (with the same owner as in the salt block gazette).

I am such a nerd.

No kidding. How would you like to show up to the barn and hear this story about the horse you’ve fallen in love with?

Makes me think that in the future people might ask shippers to send them digital photos of their horse being delivered at the end of the trip. Would be easy to do with a cell phone camera.

I thought someone earlier had said something about the horse expected was going to be a children’s jumper…If I was wrong sorry…and thought why had the horse not at least shown at that height…once, with maybe a level 5 class as a trainer ride…that was all…

Yeah, I know!!! Anyone know how old the girl is that’s been riding GG?

Who knows… if the girls a minor maybe her parents could afford to buy the horse for her. Guess that’ll be a story for another day…

What’s the approx. value of GG? Anyone know? A guess?

“if you have to ask, you can’t afford him” is my best guess

Post #2 on this thread describes BOTH horses as “unbranded”.

it would be nice…you never know!

Ooooh, I see. I missed that part.

Yep, you can’t see my horse’s brand except for certain times of the year or in the exact right light.

I think it is highly plausible there are two horses only involved here, not a third, and that Kayne = Con Air. It is not like the GG imposter that turned out to be “Con Air” was totally talentless backyard quality. And names are changed ALL THE TIME, especially when a horse isn’t first registered with USEF (so an import situation) and tehn they are just registered with the new name. Even then, you will see horses that ARE regsitered with teh USEF being sold and then shown under different names without a name change done through USEF.

There is so much wrong with USEF and the tracking/accountability, and perhaps this situation will shed more light on that situation and encourage USEF to put better measures in place for teh future. No, a chip would not have helped this horse be found sooner by a tracking type situation, but if USEF required all horses to be chipped and scanned prior to entering a class or at least prior to registering, it would have revealed this was not the correct horse. Also would prevent a 12 year old horse that had been doing the AAs being rehomed, renamed, and shown as a 4 year old in a baby green class (which certainly has happened many times in the past).
