Any suggestions? I was just thinking that I have never seen a good foxhunting scene in a movie. Or on TV, either.
Isn’t there one in “Marnie”?
If you’ll count documentaries, “Thoughts on Foxhunting” just came out on DVD- http://www.davenportfilms.com/pages/afs_foxhuntingpage.html
Has anyone seen “The Flambards” series on Masterpiece Theater? I loved the books as a kid, and heard there are some nice foxhunting scenes on the TV show.
The last time I remember seeing foxhunting on TV was the Ebay commercial

There is a brief, but excellent, foxhunting sequence in Black Narcissus, the 1947 masterpiece by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.
video – foxhunting starts at 8:50
But don’t just watch that one clip. Black Narcissus is an absolutely extraordinary film in all respects. Get your hands on a DVD and watch it on the biggest screen you have.
The List of Adrian Messenger is one of the best, there is a clip on youtube.
Brideshead Revisited - the original TV series
has a beautiful sequence in it. It’s not as long as you’d like it to be, but it’s really, really fun. Available on DVD.
For comic effect (and a little romance) foxhunting and riding in general is a big plot point in the old BBC/PBS mini “The Irish R.M.”
Second the Irish RM series.
And of course there’s Auntie Mame and Tom Jones.
Also, the Bellstone Fox.
Excellent! Thanks all for the suggestions. I’ll have to start a list.
IMDB…
I just searched IMDB for “fox hunting” and a number of titles came up, including most of those mentioned already, therefore maybe the others listed may be worth checking out:
Thanks for the link! I had no idea the Voice of Bugle Ann had ever been made into a movie- love the book!
not “good” but if memory serves
there was an Abbot & Costello 2 reeler [in society] about a pair of inept plumbers who flood a customers house and when correspondence about the flood and invitations are mis posted find themselves invited to a hunt weekend with comedic results.
recut to a short ending with the flood [sans hunting] and retitled knights of the bath
Damien: Omen III has a nicely photographed bit of foxhunting. My favorite part is when the Anti Christ sics the hounds on the Jesuit: “Take 'em, boys!” Not that I’m a big fan of the Anti Christ, I’d just enjoy siccing a pack on someone I didn’t like Like Anti’s.

Believe it or not, thats our hunt club in that commercial!
“Tom Jones” had great footage . I know people who were involved in the filming and while the directors loved the mad gallop across the English countryside, the riders were actually being severely run off with since the film crew was chasing them with helicopters.:yes:
“To the Manor Born” has some fox hunting episodes…in one, a nice throwaway scene, Audrey falls off her bike and walks around so she mounts on the left.
She’s got a great part where she’s helping to select a horse to buy…her final suggestion, “If you ever are shown a horse named “lame and crippled” buy him”
There has got to be an “I Love Lucy” episode on foxhunting…does anyone know how to look that up?
I will check some of these threads at work tomorrow where I have faster speeds! Thanks!
I know there is a hilarious Lucy one on harness racing filmed at the old Roosevelt Raceway on Long Island. I used to know the name of the horse they used, but it escapes me…
There was an episode of “Dharma and Greg” that was all about hunting and it was hysterical. The husband’s snooty parents took them hunting, and it was too funny.

OOOH yes I forgot about that series…loved it. I’m going to netflix right now to see if I can get it on DVD.
