Goodbye, sweet Dublin (update p. 25, Dublin has crossed the bridge; update for details on funeral on page 32.)

This is truly heartbreaking.

David, I’ll keep you and your family in my prayers. Dee Dee has no more pain, no more worries, and no more hurt. She’s with her Roulette today with the wind blowing through her hair. And although no longer here in body, she will always be here in spirit. David, she loves you still with something unconditional. She is your guardian angel.

I am so sorry Dave. I knew Dublin/Dee Dee only through her posts. But through them, I could see what a remarkable person she was.

Dublin lived an incredible, rich life filled with the love of good horses, good friends and a loving husband. To me, she seems the perfect example of someone who truly lived every moment of their life.

I like to think that when she’s not by your side, she’s jumping her beloved Roulette. Or perhaps galloping at breakneck speeds on a healthy Ruffian!

I said that I had been so moved by Earl Spencer’s eulogy for Princess Diana a few years ago, especially the last few sentences, which with a treak or so are exactly what I would wish to say at Dee Dee’s funeral if I could be there:

Above all, we give thanks for the life of a woman I am so proud to be able to call my friend – the unique, the amazing, the extraordinary and irreplaceable Dee Dee, whose beauty, both internal and external, will never be extinguished from our minds.

Coreene, I couldn’t agree more with that. Thank you for finding that and posting it.

Dublin, God Bless. Sometimes I think, in posting here, the mortality attached to all the words we read isn’t very clear. It really is a privilege to share time with all of you-- and may we never again forget the humanity that have been blessed to know through the help of the that most improbable of friend-gatherers and match-makers, the computer.

And, from Emily Dickinson,

Because I could not stop for Death,
He kindly stopped for me;
The carriage held but just ourselves
And Immortality.

We slowly drove, he knew no haste,
And I had put away
My labor, and my leisure too,
For his civility.

We passed the school where children played
At wrestling in a ring;
We passed the fields of gazing grain,
We passed the setting sun.

We paused before a house that seemed
A swelling of the ground;
The roof was scarcely visible,
The cornice but a mound.

Since then ’t is centuries; but each
Feels shorter than the day
I first surmised the horses’ heads
Were toward eternity.

Don’t Cry For The Horses
Don’t cry for the horses that life has set free; A million white horses for ever to be. Don’t cry for the horses, now in Gods hand, As they dance and prance in a heavenly band. They were ours as a gift, but never to keep; As they close their eyes, forever in sleep. Their spirits abound. On silver wings fly. A million white horses against the blue sky. Look up into heaven, you’ll see them above. The horses we lost, the horses we love. Manes and tails flowing they gallop through time. They were never yours. They were never mine. Don’t cry for the horses. They’ll be back some day. When our time is gone, they will show us they way. Do you hear that soft nicker, so close to your ear? Don’t cry for the horses, love the ones that are here. Author unknown

Dublin, can I ask you favor??? When the nicker comes from Dutch Treat <he’s a chestnut AQHA, really mellow guy, you’ll love him> tell him he was the best, and that he is loved, and missed by one little girl…and that she wouldn’t be who she is without him??? Just so he knows, cause we think he’s alone right now…unless Cactuskate is keeping an eye on him
<crying here…sorry if this sounds weird, but its from the heart, and well intended>

Dublin, God bless you and your family. You sound like a wonderful person and I wish I got a chance to meet you.

Please add our most heartfelt condolences. The grief expressed at the passing of such a noble soul is palpable.

Dublin will be sorely missed–but never forgotten. She is as much a part of the fabric of this on-line Family as ever…for she has touched us all with her spirit. We are united in our sadness–but also united in our celebration of her life.

Thank you, Dublin, for sharing yourself with us. Thank you, David, for allowing us to have a glimpse into the magic of your enduring bond with this beautiful lady.

Our prayers, thoughts and love are yours, always!

Ride upon the mists of time
Journey on, with love, your guide
The angels sing celestial rhyme
And call you home to gently bide

There is no death where beats a heart
That holds such grace as memory
The bonds of earth take just a part
The love you gave, eternal be

Traverse the stars and ride the wind
Cast earthly woe away at last
No mortal bounds, the path undimmed
While in our hearts, we hold you fast.

I think this sounds like a wonderful idea. I think that if Dee Dee were to pick, she would love a donation like this. It would be a most fitting tribute to such a wonderful friend of ours.

Oh Dave! Oh, I had not seen your post when I posted mine, oh BUGGER it all, oh Dave you are just her whole world.

Oh to ride Roulette again with her hair flowing in the wind, unencumbered by an approved helmet (I say, with laughter through tears) because she’ll be riding across a meadow where you never fall off, no matter what, jumping the highest fences, and, yes, with a straight line from bit to elbow every time.

This poem by Mary Oliver is one of my favorites. It will probably seem sad at first, but also seems to me anyway to reflect the eternal cycle of life… My deepest sympathies, Sue L

IN BLACKWATER WOOD
Look, the trees
are turning
their own bodies
into pillars
of light,
are giving off the rich
fragrance of cinnamon
and fulfillment,
the long tapers
of cattails
are bursting and floating away over
the blue shoulders
of the ponds,
and every pond,
no matter what its
name is, is
nameless now.
Every year
everything
I have ever learned
in my lifetime
leads back to this: the fires
and the black river of loss
whose other side
is salvation,
whose meaning
none of use will ever know.
To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal,
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.

There is a sacredness in tears.
They are not the mark of weakness,
but of power.
They speak more eloquently
than 10,000 tongues.
They are the messengers
of overwhelming grief,
of deep contrition,
and of unspeakable love.

Hi guys, David here.

Yesterday, we created a couple of boards for remembrance of Dee Dee for the service Friday. The first was her as she grew up, and the second was from our time together. I am so touched about Connie’s idea of a collage. I guess our webshots page should have enough photos. As to any charitable donation, if anyone wishes, I don’t know the name of it, but it was a horse rescue fund that she was talking about last year. My firm is making a contribution either to the ACS or to something specific for breast cancer research, and I know that she loved being able to help out a horse in need.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful show of caring and support. I know that Deed knows about all of your kind words, and that she appreciates them as much as I do (or is it “do I?” Not sure of how that goes…)

Bless you all. DLB and Lucy.
