Grey breeches?

Since we can now wear more colors in the show ring, I really want to get some grey breeches for this year, since most of my stuff is black/silver/green. I think a light to medium grey would look really smashing with the hunter green coat I have.

Earlier this year, I very excitedly bought a pair of Romfh Sarafinas on clearance in Grey Mist, which I thought would be perfect. Then they arrived and are more…greige than grey. I’ll probably use them for schooling shows when I can just wear a plain top with them, but they’re not quite what I wanted.

I see a lot of darker/charcoal breeches, but not a lot of a dove/light/medium grey. And as I learned, color is so difficult to tell online. Has anyone seen any? Preferably that are not a small fortune? I’d very much like to stay under $200.

I’ve been on the same search…you’d think this would be EASY. A lovely dove grey seems like an obvious color choice for manufacturers. Apparently not.

Samshield made a “pearl grey” color relatively recently. That’s what I’ve been wearing though it looks like they’re now hard to find. These are under $200 ordered from across the pond.

Darn it, not full-seat

Yes! Recently bought Romfh Sarafinas in “classic white sand” thinking it was a pale, neutral beige as shown online. Nope. Will keep them because they fit, but they are just plain ol’ khaki.

I’d love a pair of pretty dove gray, too. But all I can find is charcoal.

The Diane full grip is full seat, but it was a seasonal color.

https://www.redpostequestrian.co.uk/clothing/breeches/just-togs-heritage-full-grip-ladies-competition-breeches--silver-grey__197258 are a nice silver grey. They have a silicon full seat, which might not be what you’re looking for, unfortunately

FITS has dove grey. (Obviously, not the ones in the picture here.)

i am still in search of a medium warm gray. Not blue toned, but a red toned gray. I probably have 6 gray pair now…and still searching, searching for just the right color. Knee patch not full seat makes it hard…as almost everything now days is full seat. You wouldn’t think gray would be so tricky would you!!! Have similar problem with gray saddle pad… Though i THINK i got a one for christmas that is just the right color with her name embroidered in the lower corner

The FITS Finleys I have are a light neutral beige and might fit what you’re looking for. I’ll probably keep using those for eventing. Has anyone seen the “Ash” color they make those in in person?

I’m fine with silicone fullseats–my favorite breeches are probably my Tredstep Neros, which have silicone. I love their grey for schooling, actually, it’s just a little darker than I’d like for showing. Especially since we’re also getting the youngster started eventing this year, and the rules there still say “light or white” and I’d prefer something that can do double duty.

My cavallos are dove grey.

I was on the lookout for something just like this for most of a year. I finally found some ”steel grey” Pikeur Luganas on sale for under $150 and they were perfect!!!

Then after my last show of the season I took them out of the washer to find a big black axle grease stain on the thigh. Crushed.

If anyone happens to be a 34R, SmartPak has them on clearance for $120: https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/pikeur-lugana-full-seat-breechesclearance-19450. I love them so much I’m thinking about eating lots of ice cream…

Ack! You must’ve died!

I’m really looking for dove or silver gray knee patch breeches. Have a couple of charcoal gray pair and that color is often… odd. Like riding in the sun turns them an odd purplish hue or even an odd muddy brown tone. Just blech.

Of course hardly anyone sees me in them other than my trainer, my barn buddies and the occasional guy-with-a-truck at the pump next to me when I stop for gas on the way home from the barn.

You might want to try washing with Simple Green
Really goes after grease stains and no bleach. I used to use it on my exes greasy clothes, he was a truck mechanic. Cleaned that stuff right up. It’s really something.

Looks like someone did take advantage of that sale! I might look elsewhere and see if I can find them, because I liked the old Luganas I had, but thought the Steel color looked much darker than it does in your picture. That looks like exactly what I wanted!

For those looking for kneepatch options, have you looked at TS’s Pewter or RJ’s Excalibur colors? They both look a little darker than dove, but definitely lighter than most of the charcoal/anthracite greys that are out there. I feel like I’d have had a much easier time finding what I wanted in kneepatch, they tend to have so many more colors than fullseats for some reason.

I’ve got both the FITS steel duet and the dove grey. The dove grey is very light - close to white. The steel duet might be closer to what you’re looking for. Will try to take a photo this evening.

If you buy silicone full seats the silicone will wear away in like 10 wears and then you will have knee patch.

These are Ovation Euro Melange in gray - I prefer knee patch and these are the suede, not silicone. Not sure how easy to find, but very affordable and I love them!

really? huh…did not know that. Can’t imagine getting even that far with a pair though…they’re so weird and creepy.
i did just order a nice gray Ovation helmet yesterday.

Every pair of silicone breeches I’ve owned have had the silicone wear off to nearly nothing in a pretty short period of time with the exception of my Horze Grand Prix. It’s fine with me because I don’t love being stuck.
