Guess The Breed and Color

His mane grew straight up. About 5 hairs thick, blended black and grey, so we roached it and he looked neat as button with a dark black stripe down his neck. His tail was thin but not disrespectable. This explains why I can do a WEF quality tail in 15 minutes, and I never learned really good neck braids

I had an Appy cross that had a typical Appy tail, as in hardly any at all. He would flick flies with a hind leg, and could reach a surprising area that way. It was very disconcerting the first time I rode him. I would fly spray him and it would last for a short while, and then he would start flicking flies again. I gave serious thought to getting him a tail extension, but I didn’t end up keeping him long (very long story).

I’m inclined to think a shedding blue roan w/ dapples versus an App cross as those spots don’t look very defined and there are no other App features (striped hooves, white schlera, mottling, etc), and agree it looks gaited. Do Rocky Mountain horses come in blue roan? Or maybe be a QH x TWH cross.

How much shedding is left? Can we see a front view to see the front of the front legs? A true Roan will have the dark of the lower legs come up to an inverted V above the knees. I think I see a hint of that from the side but can’t be sure.

Some horses shed with reverse dapples, doesn’t even have to be a Roan. The spots here aren’t corn marks

Rabicano is an interesting thought since the white currently stops at the shoulders when viewed from the mane side, and there’s definitely a ā€œskunk tailā€ at the top of the tail. But viewing the off side there’s also a lot of white up around the mane. That may be entirely unrelated

I added a pic of the legs to the post.

I’m on Team Roany in the midst of a shed out.

Breed? I’m going out on a creative limb and guessing criollo.

Do you not know or are you torturing us and not telling yet? :joy:

With the added picture of the front legs, I’m still not sure if he has inverted v’s like this on his front legs.

I gave this more thought last night.

Now I’m leaning toward some type of Andalusian cross. Not a true Azteca, but a gray Andy crossed with… something… resulting in this interesting coloring.

I will play. Go with some type of hispanic gaited, like a Paso. Possibly a Rocky Mountain, which I have seen in a blue roan color.

Is there an answer coming?

We need a straight front view to see the front legs fully from the front.

A greying Rocky Mountain x Andalusian.
My Luso x Arab filly greyed out with spots just like this when she was two

TWH I can see, but I would not have thought blue roan. That last pic I would have swore she was an Appy!

I’d guess App X Andalusian.

Yeah, I would bet a box of donuts that there’s some Andalusian in there. An Appy coat might explain the roany dapples.

Appy spots are very different from reverse dappling

Yep, there’s the inverted V

And seeing the last pic is cool as well. Many Roans are very light in their Winter coat, shedding to their darker Summer coat. Some are so light they’re ā€œwhiteā€, some are so dark in Summer you’d never know they’re Roan.

Do you have a pic of her in full Winter coat?
