Here is the answer. Blue roan TWH demonstrating the reverse dapple pattern as she sheds out. This last picture is what she looked like this weekend.

And seeing the last pic is cool as well. Many Roans are very light in their Winter coat, shedding to their darker Summer coat. Some are so light they’re “white”, some are so dark in Summer you’d never know they’re Roan.

Actually (and I don’t have a picture of it) she was black with a silvery sheen. You could see it better if you pushed the hair against the grain. It was as if the white hairs were slightly shorter and acted as an under coat. She is my first roan. So the coat has been fascinating to me. She will get lighter as the white hairs grow in this summer. I’ll post update photos on the thread.
