Guide to all things Pony? - and, meet Grundy

I feel you here. I’ve been going through something similar myself for more than a decade.

Ironically, the horse who made me lose all fun in riding is the same horse who brought it back into my life.

Hoping Miss Grundy brings the fun back into yours!

@Texarkana I hope so too. I am not interested in winning anything. Showing is fun sometimes, but it’s not why I ride. I see all these cow clinics and working equitation clinics around me and want to go!

this one is 2’ x 2’

You’re in the Great Lakes area, right? You’ll have to come up for the Silver Lake Beach ride in November one year!

After a long year of rehab and stress trying to get to a show, that was the most fun I’d had on a horse in a very long time.

I’ve never heard of it, I’ll have to look it up! There’s tons of cow clinics coming up, but they’re all in Northern Wisconsin. :frowning: I want to go audit one!

You could also keep an eye out for RHAM clinics which are usually held in Berrien Springs. They have a beginner cow work maybe once a year or so? They’re a very welcoming group.

More rope work for Grundy, twas a non event. Got on her 2x from each side, non event. Walked her all over the property, on the front porch, through a raised rock bed, along the fence right by the road - non event.

I blew a raspberry on her muzzle and got THE angriest look I’ve ever seen.:rofl::rofl: Likes smooches, dislikes raspberries. Noted!

Our first little jump. She was chill about it all, landed same speed, laa dee daa. Super short session since this is the 3rd day in a row we’ve done something. Good girl!

And she’s good with her knees!

Not bad! I loved how sensible she was about it, no overjumping or acting like a fool on the backside. Just up, over, out, gimme dat snack.

There are a ton of cow clinics in WI. Maybe because it is, well- Wisconsin. You know, the dairy state and all  Me thinks Grundy will be the perfect agile size to do some cow work! How far are you from Madison area? I have a good FB page for WI clinics.

I’m about 3 hours out from Madison. That’s not impossible but still pretty far if it’s a one-day thing.

Share anyways, if you don’t mind!

After a choke yesterday (thankfully resolved with massage, no vet intervention needed), we get soaked feed. The sound of horses eating soaked feed is so… yucky.

So funny how we all like different things.

The slurping noise of a horse happily slopping in their wet food is one my favorite noises.

Now, having to clean up the mess of wet food on every surface within a horse length is not fun.

My Old Man will take a mouthful and bring it next to your face to chew it, if you’re within reach. That miiiiight be why it gives me a visceral reaction :joy:

Feronia is not messy with her soaked feed, but she does end up with bits of it stuck to her coat all over from biting at flies.

Glad Grundy got that chunk of whatever down w/o needing the nosebleed tube :ok_hand:

I had a haydunker & found his noises amusing.
Sounded like a toploading washer
A friend’s dunker grew a little oatgrass garden on his wooden feedbox :joy:

I think you relocated from IN, but friends here have done Cutting/Sorting clinics.
I can ask for info if you’re interested.

The only one I know of around here is Cirro, and he’s more focused on sorting/penning mini-jackpots on the weekends - if you know of any more I’m all ears!

I’ll ask & post back here when I get an answer :+1:
