H/J Official Peggy Fackrell Set Down by USEF

Not being on social media anywhere but here, I didn’t see the offending posts. Of course, writing rude letters to USEF officials is never a great idea. ETA I have now seen the offending, racist public posts and wholeheartedly agree with USEF’s yanking of this person’s credentials.

I have absolutely no idea what she said but the info given by commenters is pretty conflicting. Some are saying she posted anti BLM movement statements. Others say she was sending racist emails to the USEF staff. Those are two very different things. One is an opinion and the other is a garbage person.

Her original post is linked in the article. Basically she feels that the USEF mandatory diversity training is brainwashing. It’s fairly clear from her Facebook feed that she is not just opposed to BLM as a political movement so I’m guessing her private emails are worse.

Has she ever worked in any office ever? We all have to take diversity training. It’s been going on for decades. Is she really out of touch or something?

So I guess it’s confirmed she did send racist emails. Great. That’s a wonderful way to make you look like a classy human…

I mean …the horse business :joy: and we know how professional and businesslike that is, right up to our national federation.

One just needs to scroll quickly through her Facebook page to get a Reader’s Digest version of her general views on life.

I posted this on the COTH Facebook page earlier today and will repost it here. I am a USEF multi-licensed R judge and technical delegate. Having an officials card is a privilege, NOT a right. As a USEF official, I am held to a higher standard within the equine industry and have an obligation and responsibility to conduct myself in a professional manner, both in and out of the show ring.

While Peggy may have a right to free speech, she willingly signed USEFs social media policy and would have been told at multiple clinics that both her professional and private conduct needs to be beyond reproach. This is something I always teach at every officials clinic. Her vile rhetoric proves why we need a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Plan. I am embarrassed to call her a fellow official.

It’s amazing how often people crying, ‘freedom of speech!’ have absolutely no understanding of the first amendment.

So true. As I mentioned to someone on another thread, freedom of speech is not a license to be ugly to other people. You are not entitled to go into a store and hurl racial or other epithets at people. The store owner however, is entitled to have you removed from the premises if you are exercising your “freedom of speech” in that manner, and they are also entitled to ban you from coming back.

And it also has nothing to do with her spouting off on Facebook. Or criticizing USEF. And the USEF suspending her. None of that has anything to do with the first amendment.

Yep. Any private entity can require certain standards of behavior and, as @Daventry explained, USEF is one of them and they have a clear social media policy for their licensed officials.

Why are horse “professionals”
So resistant to normal professional standards. So darn frustrating I could scream. From safe sport to diversity training. The horse industry is barely catching up. I took that type of training on Wall Street in 1999.

I have now read the offending posts that are public and am editing my first post on this thread.

She apparently feels the same way about SafeSport. Link to her post; it’s in the headliner so you don’t have to scroll to read it :

That alone should be grounds for booting her, or at least a lengthy suspension.

She seems to think that the NSBA would support her views. That is wishful thinking.

Don’t look to be a NSBA judge anytime soon Ms. Peggy Fackrell.

From that FB thread, she sounds like quite the piece of work…

From her facebook rant:

“If we don’t stop this now, we are guilty of allowing the BLM to invade our sport.”

That pretty much sums up her perspective. And it’s a privileged, out of touch one at that. Plus it’s obvious that she doesn’t support Safe Sport, either. Nothing like wanting to keep the ugly status quo in place, eh?

I’m pretty sure equestrian activities are very, very low down on the list of concerns of the BLM movement or even foundation :joy:
Why does horseback riding always bring out the crazy people. I’ve met some real winners in this sport. Was once told all about why white people are the superior race by a trainer. Another told me about how we should lock up all the men and not allow them to live in society.

I wish racism could be explained by many concussions, but it can’t. It’s widespread.
You have to be taught to hate.

The more people tolerate racism the worse it will become. Speak out.

I was young, but my face probably told it all about how I felt about his little rant. I kept my distance from him after that.

Dating myself here, but remember the song from South Pacific, You’ve Got to be Carefully Taught? Written in the 1940’s but expresses the continuing problem very well.
