H/J vs Dressage

What people write on BB’s and what they actually produce in the real world of training and riding can be two very different things. While someone can write well, explain the technical aspects in a clear, concise way, does not necessarily mean that they can train a horse to GP.
This is not to say that what some people write on BB’s is not valuable, but riding and training takes feel --because without that theory is just a mental exercise.

Hey we’re not perfect either. But I must admit, I’ve never even looked at the Dressage Forum. Have always loved the people right here. We can get a little snotty too though…

Well the hunter portion anyways… heidi do you think that because hunter rides have the option of getting out if the subjective judging pisses them off, (they can always switch to jumpers) - that it keeps H/Jers less catty??

Here’s a plug for the BOOGERS (hope no one minds)
Come visit The Horse Community http://pub9.ezboard.com/bthehorsecommunity

We have everything from FEI riders to struggling peons and lots in between. We have a “Twilight Zone” for any and all types of jokes/parodies/creative writing etc.

P.S. Don’t let one SLiCk poster drive you away.

Velvet there is always room for all opinions on this forum - maybe that’s were the difference lies??

and admit that I cruise the h/j and event portion of this board far more than the dressage, even though I’m a DP now (Dressage Princess). On the other hand, I CAN’T possibly be a Dressage Princess because (a) I used to event, (b) I used to do H/J to the B level, doing Jumpers to 4’6" in some jumpoffs; © I still compete in trail trials for variety; and (d) most damning of all, I ride a 2nd generation TBX Appaloosa - full color!!! (And he won at hunter shows, too).

I have strong opinions on DQ issues, too, but I will admit that the dressage BB’s often get pretty nasty. Perhaps my varied background keeps me from getting into full-bore DQ mode when I participate! G

I know better now, but in a previous equestrian incarnation, I always thought “dressage” meant “that dumb stuff you have to do before they’ll let you go cross-country.” G

It’s the “no room for other opinions” in dressage that I don’t like, and I think everyone has just been holding this poster up as, well, a poster child for that issue.

I said this… I just don’t think it’s as MANY as in dressage (I suppose I should specify ‘adults’ here, as I have seen many too many youngsters who, in my not-so-humble opinion, should be working on their basic position at a walk and trot, rather than jumping 2’6" or 3’!)
