Half lease - sharing equipment with other lessee?

My question is–how ill-fitting is the horse’s regular tack? I’m a little concerned that the owner is like, “hey, he seems to be going so much better in that saddle,” and then just shrugs and uses what she’s using on the regular. Even if he’s about to be retired within the year.

When I leased, I always had to use the tack that came with the horse. I did swap out the stirrup leathers, because I’m so short, and didn’t want to wrap the owner’s very long leathers.

I feel that it is the owner’s responsibility to provide appropriate tack for all riders on said horse. If yours is okay, that’s wonderful, but it’s not your responsibility.

I mean, someday I might need to drag logs around with the work harness l got from my friend when she got out of horses…or take up polo, because I found a sweet deal on an old stubben polo saddle at a tack sale…and when I’m in my 70s, and Mr O’Pony is in his 30s, we’ll be REALLY HAPPY that I didn’t sell my small marathon carriage, because it’s light and easy to climb into.

I half leased a horse and then bought a horse and most of the stuff worked for both. Things like pads, leathers and stirrups aren’t likely to change between horses anyways.

I half lease a pony to a kid and I want her to feel like it’s her pony. It makes her happy. She does okay with the tack but I tend to be the one who cleans the stuff we share. I’m okay with that too. Her riding the pony has been great so I have no complaints.
