Have you guys seen the Equi-trek trailers in the UK?
GLS- yes!!! Those are the ones!!! I would kill for the Star Trekka!!! Ahhhh, makes me wish I were a Brit!!!
I’ve ordered one and will have it by early August. I currently have the Show Trekka and it is nice as well. Horses love these trailers.

However…why do you all love them so much? You have lots of options for trailers with living quarters…most of them much fancier than Equi-Treks. In the UK, there are no private vehicles capable of towing more than 3500kg so we are much more restricted!

The Sonic is very nice but doesn’t have the payload for two big horses. The other horseboxes are very nice but I think most horseboxes are nice

I have much trailer envy for the whole Equi-Trek range, and Ifor Williams etc but if I could have a new trailer of any kind it would be this one

I have always had Rice Trailers that carry 2 horses. My current one is about 25 years old, it has a really good service history and is as solid as a rock. I like that they feel so substantial, particularly through the floors and ramps, I like that there are many of them still around, it shows they last well. Also, they can carry more weight than some of the newer lightweight models.

I tow mine with an Isuzu Trooper 4wd, we tend to store tack, water and hay in the back of that rather than in the trailer, but to be honest, we only ever go to shows that last for a day.

eta sorry, its this one I like the best, 2 horse version

I don’t care aboout the living quarters as much, although the small livingspace would probably be great for a weekender show. I like that they are light and that many of the companies seem to offer a rear facing option without adding a lot of extra length. Only one US company, Turnbow, offers a rear facing trailer as a standard, and they are expensive and very hard to get on the east coast. Also, most of the european trailers seem to have a minimum 7 foot height with many at 7 '6" or higher. Why US companies make the average trailer 6’6" OR 7" WITH 7’6" as an expensive add on option,I’ll never know! What I would like is simple: Something like the show treka: a rear facing trailer with a small dressing room that is not 18+ feet long and has decent headroom for taller horses…and does not need to pe pulled by a 1/2 ton or larger truck…very difficult to find off the lot in the US

What truck/ 4x4 can tow up to 3500kg? Mine (Hilux) can only tow up to 2250 braked.

Have you seen the Boekmanns? They are so much more stylish than the Brenderups…love the color and decal options! You can get them from a dealer in Canada.

wow! cool! Those are nice!

Never mind, just noticed you’re in England. I was going to say “what truck can’t tow 3500kg/7700lbs?” Mine does 5700kg/12,500 lbs and is an average large truck.

I’m thinking with the Sonic van if the payload capacity is 3500kg or 7700 lbs for a 2 horse and that’s not enough…just how heavy are the heavy hunters over there?  Wouldn’t it be payload with a van and not tow weight?

That’s the Lakotah.
I actually looked at one about a year ago and it was NICE!
It was new to the market then so I want to see how it holds up before getting too serious. They were going for around $26K

I may stop by a local dealer today and check out the conversion camper van they have for sale. If it has the power to haul my 2H BP it is a much cheaper option.

Only a Land Rover…the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport both can. So can the big Defender. I’m not sure about the Discovery. Very unfortunate as Landy’s are not inexpensive to buy!

The Star Trekka has a Gross weight of 3500kg and I will be using most of that so have a RR.

Equi-Trek have both trailers and vans… you’re right. For the trailers it is tow weight. For the vans it is payload.

The Sonic won’t take two big horses. I know because I considered it and mine are nowhere near as big as heavy hunters! 3.5ton lorries are popular in the UK becuase a 17 year-old can drive them on a car licence. Lorries over 3.5t need a separate licence which you can’t get until you are 21. Towing a trailer over 750kg GW also requires you to have a different licence. However, unless you have ponies or only want to transport one horse, a 3.5t is not very useful.

As for trucks…the pickups in the UK are useless. Nothing can tow over about 2800kg. You can get US pickup trucks that have been imported and converted to right hand drive but they are $$$. The only thing that can tow 3500kg is a Land Rover.

I have honestly looked at every trailer available on the market in the UK…Fautras, Ifor-Williams, Rice, Richardson, Cheval Liberte, Bateson…
If you need more than 1200kg payload and want living or a dressing room, Equi-Trek is it.

The 7’6" headroom in their trailers for large horses is great. The horses travel well rear-facing and the large ramp and light coloured interior are very inviting. They two well and are fairly comfy to stay in. It would just be nice to have options.

My Star Treka has arrived and it is lovely…much nicer than I thought it would be and the finishing is all better quality than in the Show Treka. The horse part is much as it was in my last Equi-Trek but with more windows, better lights, and a roof vent. The living is very comfy and they even equipped it with wine racks. How did they know it was for me?

I’ve added a few non-factory extras to make it easier to stay over at the shows. I can now plug into the mains like a lorry, so will have a nice little heater in the winter to keep me warm. I’m looking forward to my next away show now, so that I can go ‘camping’.

Yes the Disco can, and landies are great, but dont think that’s all the options!

Mitsubishi shoguns and Isuzu troopers are 3500 also (you can get an older one for not much ££), as is the long wheel base Jeep.

Can you tell I’ve just bought a tow car!?

What did you buy? I love my truck, and feel very safe in it but I’d love something with a larger towing capacity. I looked at the Shoguns, but the new ones were a bit out of my reach, and I couldn’t find an older one with the specs I wanted at the time.

They are good looking but they have fiberglass walls and are way heavier than Brenderups.

Anyone with recent Equi Trek trailer experience? They’re being imported to the US (Portland) and I’m considering if they’re the answer for my 17hh baby who can’t back down a ramp (shivers)

The Portax models are aluminum walled. Weight comparisons are relative to what models from both brands are in question.

Böckmann trailers are very, very high quality. They are available in the US from both Maple Lane in Ontario (the North American distributor) and from Traveled Lane Trailers in MD. Had I not found a light-weight US-made trailer locally used that met my needs, I’d be using a Böckmann most likely.

I’ve seen a few of the vans but never the trailers-- they do look really nice, though. I’m assuming you need a BP trailer? Hawk makes one with a front/side ramp that is pretty nice, too.

The Böckmann Portax AK has the front ramp and will likely have a meaningful weight advantage over the Hawk with a front ramp if that’s important. Not inexpensive, however…

Yes need a BP and have a v8 4Runner. Can’t park a giant truck in the city and like the gas mileage compared to a big old truck. The Hawk one I saw even at 3800# won’t work - American built trailers are not designed to be towed by anything but Big Trucks, RAWR!!!

The Portax K looks to be around $18k and it says GVWR is 5280# but that seems heavy?

A Show Treka L is 3000# and has living area. About $18,500
