Has anyone kept in contact with the owner of the horse to let them know what’s going on?
Bathsheba – No, C&C is in GA and therefore nowhere near close enough to do the farm visit. There’s a summary in post 58 of who has volunteered what, to that point in the thread. There have been additional offers of assistance in the meantime.
Additional offers of financial assistance:
AZDreamRide $20
Watermark Farm $20
Lori B $25
Total pledged thus far: $425 plus gas money.
So, we have a home with BlueNGrey (YEA!!!).
ALittleGrey offered to do a farm visit, so that’s the next step for them to coordinate.
Carolprudm offered to trailer the mare. Liberty offered to ride shotgun and assist with loading. Carol offered Saturday, so that needs to be sorted out among all three parties (owner, trailering folks, BNG).
Kimball56 offered to be the back-up trailer person if needed. Liberty is willing to ride back-up for Kimball as well.
My suggestion is that Carol handle the transaction with the owner so that it’s just one person for the owner to deal with. Perhaps Carol can also handle collecting the funds via paypal? Is that okay with you Carol?
BNG’s SO is a farrier, so that base is covered! So cool. Her vet is Piedmont Equine.
We’re gonna need pictures!!! PLEASE don’t forget to bring a camera when picking up the mare! We want before and after photos of her and her new home!!!
:lol::yes:
I would offer to take the mare and the feed w/o giving them any money. Or at least no money for the horse. I’m sure they’d let you do this. Spend the donated money on a veterinary visit; this mare might need dental work and I’d bet a paycheck she has no vaccinations and no Coggins and hasn’t been dewormed in ages.
I’m in for $20 via paypal.
Let’s not piss off the seller. In the end there’s still an old mare teetering around.
Euth and disposal is hundreds of dollars. The rescues in the south are full. Moral obligation or not, when you’ve got no money and no options there’s not much you can do. Period.
I’ll throw in an additional $10 if everyone who wants to tar and feather the seller will just shut up about it right now.

Like.
Kudos for everyone who can step up and help. Focus on what you can do instead of spreading unfounded vitriol.
Until someone actually makes contact with the seller – all this guessing does not help the mare. Adding a price is advised by CL to avoid abuse and worse for any animals sold on CL (or classified etc). I would not be surprised if the mare will be FTGH in the end. Greed or streets smarts - what the mare needs now is more important. If you don’t care for the situation, save you typing for situations you have first hand knowledge of…sheesh.

A+++++
Please guys. Keep the old lady at the front of your mind.
Let me know when there is a paypal address we can send to. Things are tight, but I can spare a dribble for what this gal needs. No matter what that turns out to be.
The owners also stated via email that the horse isn’t in pain, and here folks are publicly calling them “god damned troglodytes” and “asshats.”
She’s got feed, since they offered a few bags of feed with her. She’s a hundred dollars or best offer. While I’d agree it’s best not to pay people to be jerks, honestly, if I were that worried about it I’d just pay it and go get her. Further, they might actually be inclined to give her away IF you aren’t castigating them and if they don’t hear so much crazy backlash.

So awesome.
Right. Enough with the bickering about the seller please. Take it elsewhere. We need this thread to facilitate helping the mare. I will try to keep checking back, but if a paypal address becomes known, feel free to PM me as well. Thank you to the local people who are stepping up to help this horse.

Amen, VCT!
OK bluengrey works late tonight but will meet with farrier at her farm tomorrow at 10:30am! and will be there till about 1pm.
Who can go check in with her then?
Someone please tell the seller that we might actually have a solution to the problem. And we’ll pay for the horse!
ETA The above has probably already been posted, but I just got home from barn and haven’t read the thread since early morning. Let’s get the old lady a nice place to stay till her demise.
Here’s a thought no one seems to have thought of: if you give a horse away, who knows what will happen to it. If someone is willing to pay for her, even $100, they are more likely to want to give her a good home. At least, I can see how that could be the case. So, maybe they think they’re doing the right thing for the mare by charging money for her and making sure someone is willing to invest in her.
I’m so sorry I can’t contribute in any way, but it really warms my heart how many people are stepping up to help this old girl.
Yes I’m not in VA (went to school there back in dark ages) and can only do inspections for coth from charleston to jacksonville FL.
So whomever on the thread who lives close to, is it Opal or Remington? where the mare is, can someone go meet up with bluengrey tomorrow between 10:30am and 1pm at her farm to talk it over? I think Bluengrey is near Remington?
I think all the money offered will be needed for the care of the mare. And of course, for euth-ing her if she is in bad shape, or if she doesn’t make it to 36 yoa.
And down here, people actually call people and tell them not to give a horse away but to charge at least 100 dollars or more, supposedly to keep bad people from collecting free horses and taking them to auction. The seller may have been told this. Or the seller may want to eek out some money for the mare, just as the people who send their old horses off to auction do. Whatever.
Let’s get the mare first and then decide if the coth posse should tar and feather anyone.
We need a coordinator in VA to do the legwork. And we need a paypal address to send our money to.
Carolprudm, if you are willing to do the transaction, I’ll paypal you the 100$. If the people will give you the horse free of charge, take the money for yourself or give it to bluengray for the horse’s care.
I need a paypal address.
And everyone is right. Someone needs to contact the owners and let them know the horse will be picked up Saturday.
Unless someone could go get her sooner??? Please.
Please see if you all can work this out to get the mare soon. We need a coordinator.
I don’t think we’ll get into a bidding war for a 35 yoa mare, but I worry that they will sell her for 25$ to someone who will carry her straight to an auction.
I can pitch in $10 towards buying the mare if that’s what needs to happen.
BnG - I understand your SO’s point and I agree. I don’t think you guys should have to pay them either. But if it comes down to between getting vs. not getting, would the money pledged be allowed to be used to acquiring her?
Keep the pledgers posted on a paypal address.

Right now I can’t use PayPal. Someone hacked my credit card and I’m waiting on a replacement.:(
I can get the mare Saturday but I would like another COTHer to ride with me. We don’t know if she will load and also I don’t want to get into a situation where there’s a question aout what we do.
Good grief, offering to take a “struggling” 35yo horse instead of paying for it is not “pissing off the seller.”
Don’t think people are beating down her door to take this horse off her hands.
I’m offering the 100$ so screw the argument on whether or not to pay. I say if they won’t take less, give them the 100$ which I will send to whomever is going to get the mare. Problem solved. It’s on me. The other money can go for the care of the mare or the euth-ing. If they’ll give the mare to you, great. If not, it’s my money and I say give it to them.
OK I trust carolprudm or anyone else who has offered, supra, on this thread to go get the mare to make the determination of whether she should be delivered to Bluengrey or should be put down. And I trust Bluengrey to make the same determination as soon as the mare’s hooves hit the ground on her farm. I would like for the mare to be buried and not sent off to dump, but that’s my own issue with dead animals. (I used to fly my dead dogs and dead cats from Atlanta to Savannah on Delta for burial.)
People can and have refused to give up dogs and horses because they didn’t like the attitude of “rescuers” and then let the animals linger and starve. I’ve seen that with the rescues I’ve worked with in Atlanta. Don’t tick off the “sellers” or the animals suffer.
I am so proud of everybody coming together to help
Random thought…35 is ancient for a TB…anybody wonder if maybe she is younger? Just contemplating that she might be a horse with more options!
