Heather Blitz Otto sold to Todd Flettrich

This week it was announced that Heather Blitz’s number 1 mount Otto is sold to Todd Flettrich.

HEATHER BLITZ’ GRAND PRIX DRESSAGE PARTNER SOLD
Otto is Purchased by an American Rider

Esbjerg, Denmark. December 3, 2008.

Otto, the mount of U.S. dressage rider, Heather Blitz has been sold to Todd Flettrich and will be based at Flettrich’s training barn in Wilmington, DE.

Blitz, 39, who has been based in Denmark at Ove Mortenson’s barn with his 12 year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, Otto, (Rambo x Rampal) for the past two years, took over the ride in 2004 from Mimi Shows who was competing him at second level. Mortenson of O.R.M. Holding of Denmark bought Otto from Shows while Blitz was riding him in Louisiana and the pair moved to Denmark to develop his career at Grand prix level.

“I have had 4 incredible years of learning and working with Otto forming an unusually special partnership. It’s very sad to part ways with him now. We have both learned loads from each other and our teamwork really showed. How I evaluate horses is now always based on my appreciation of Otto and his qualities. I can only hope to find another horse which whom I can click as well, and also admire every minute of every day,” said Blitz.

Heather and Otto have successfully competed at Grand Prix level throughout Europe impressing the judges wherever they went. In Mondorf CDI show in Luxembourg this fall, the pair finished third in the Grand Prix on a score of 70.48%, beating German Olympic gold medallist, Isabell Werth, riding Warum Nicht. Heather’s score was a personal best with Otto and set them up for a fifth pace finish in the Grand Prix Freestyle with a score of 71.20%. The combination also competed against Europe’s elite riders in Odense, Oldenburg and Stuttgart this fall.

Heather will be relocating in the New Year with her own horses. An announcement will soon be made. In the meantime, Heather is taking bookings for clinics in the New Year. Her next clinic will be held in Florida. Please visit the website - www.heatherblitz.info for more information.

Does anyone know where Heather Blitz will relocate to? Will she return now to the U.S.?

I’m guessing she has some newer horses to bring out in competition…

Why do you think she will relocate?

Because it says so in the press release.

(In response to Ridgeback’s question “what makes you think she is relocating”)

blah blah blah blah:eek: wow you don’t miss a thing do you…I’ve only deleted two posts:)

I must be senile. I thought the horse was sold in 2006 and she no longer owned him.

She didn’t own him he was purchased in April 2006 by Ove Mortensen of Esbjerg, Denmark and is being trained by Heather at his Stutteri Hjortlund farm.

Ah, Heather Blitz…a name I know well. She comes from Region 9, my old stomping grounds; a delightful gal, excellent rider and I wish her nothing but the best in her new endeavors. Her mare, Arabella, I remember when she was a 1st level horse. Otto I have never seen, am sure Todd F. will give her a good home. It would be nice to have Heather back in America…we have sure missed her!

She still gives clinics in the Houston area. I remember when she brought Otto to the GAIG/USDF championships when she was looking for a sponsor. SHe wasn’t entered in the show but when she rode Otto, everyone just sort of stopped…and watched. You got goosebumps knowing that you were in the company of a truly international pair… I thought she was looking to stay with Otto but I wish her the best of luck (which she doesn’t need because she’s that good).

Yes, she is. She is that good! The last time we talked was about 4 years ago at the championships—she was on her way to international stardom at that time and I remember telling her to walk thru every door that opened…ya never know what’s on the other side. My time in Europe competing was well spent, gotta go thru the doors. She certainly deserves nothing but the best.

Kind of off topic, but does anyone know where Todd is based in Wilmington, or the name of his barn?

I didn’t know he was in Wilmington, at least in September he was still in Coatesville area.

Nope! I live 10 minutes from where he used to be and it has been over a year since he left. September of 2007 maybe but not September 2008. You are so-o-o-o out a date

The Dressage Center where he was had a Coatesville address. Cherry Knoll farm where he is now is considered West Grove but I have seen it with a Wilimington address or Coatesville address as well. But it is not near Coatesville, more south of there.

The article I saw says he is now in Wilmington, Delaware, but the articles about Cherry Knoll say it’s in Coatesville(or other nearby addresses).

“Cherry Knoll farm where he is now is considered West Grove but I have seen it with a Wilimington address or Coatesville address as well”

Ok I got a map and figured it out. For some reason I had this idea that Delaware was Some Where Else. Getting senile.

Clearly, it’s so small I lost it.

lol…I live in West Grove, PA and work in Wilmington, DE…takes me about 40+ minutes to get between the two so they are different…and different from Coatesville, PA (parts of which are very ugly, other parts of which are beautiful hunt country…much of “Unionville”, PA technically has a Coatesville or a Kennett Square address!) I’m pretty sure Todd splits his time between this area and FL though. I thought he was in Unionville when not in FL…or at least this general area.

FWIW–from where I live in West Grove, PA…it only takes me 20 minutes to get to Fair Hill, MD …the states are very close in this part of the US.

yes no one is mad enough to stay up nawth if they don’t have to. excuse me, i have to ride in 1 1/2 hrs, and I need to start getting DRESSED.

you have a pm

lol…no kidding…it was 21 degrees this morning when I went to ride (that’s like -6 Celsius)…I start losing all incentive to ride when it is that cold!

Well, we just tore apart the house screaming, ‘Where are the Futi’s!’

It looked like that scene from “Best in Show” with ‘FIND BUSY BEE!’

HA HA HA HA HA it would be funny if it wasn’t so pitiful!:lol::lol: I went out to clean stalls it was 12 or so and blowing like a gale. The mice were all lined up at the tack room door - ‘Oh come on let us in and give us a break for once!’
