Yet another thread goes in the dumper. If it’s not slickapalooza, it’s the ambery show. Or if we’re really lucky, both together. It is true, sometimes silence is golden. Or the better part of valor or something like that.
I think it’s wonderful that TF has patrons with horses for him to ride Hell, if I had big time talent, I’d be doing the same! But I don’t and I don’t begrudge him a thing. Or his friends with money or that watch from the barn, more power to them for being in a good place to do so!
And all Gods Children said AMEN!
Please avoid the personal/OT commentary concerning members of the board or horse industry at large. We’ve removed/edited some posts.
Thanks,

FWIW - My heart goes out to Heather - she finally had a top quality international horse, one she trained to that level. Losing the ride on such a horse must be hard to deal with.
Best of luck to Todd - what a great opportunity for him !
My heart goes out to Otto, poor horse:confused:
I saw Todd ride in Florida last winter. I hadn’t seen him before and he really stood out for me as a lovely rider.
Todd
I took lessons from Todd at the Dressage Centre for about a year. I enjoyed him and his lessons. I am only an amateur. I believed that he gave me accurate and practical information. I no longer study with him because he went to Germany and then to Florida… and you all know the rest. I have moved on to another popular and dedicated trainer that actually comes to my area monthly.
I saw Todd at Devon and he told me that he was at Cherry Knoll now. I was not surprised since he was there and the Dressage Centre before.
I guess Delaware is new? Where is he in Delaware? I could not find that in this thread.
torontodressage, you just really dislike todd flettrich, don’t you. why?
SLC2.
Why do you like Todd Flettrich and his riding and training skills ?
I didn’t hear and see much possitive things about him.

When I worked and trained with Hubertus all the horses called him Fletterbitch.
Why do I like him so much?
You’re not getting it.
In fact, I don’t like OR dislike him. That has nothing to do with it.
It has to do with someone continually making snippysuggestions about someone that sound like they belong in a meeting of Heathers, not actual discussions of riding techniques, pro and con, past experience, horses trained to what level, awards gotten or not gotten, people one trained with, specifics, technical issues, FACTS, instead, just making little juvenile little asides and snotty remarks about people who aren’t here to respond or defend themselves.
It has nothing to do with ‘liking’ or ‘not liking’ Todd Flettrich.
Who’s “Heather” and why is she having a meeting?
Usually, when someone is especially snarky about a trainer, they have a reason and they are hoping to get it across…without getting editted by the Mods…so that other horse people are aware that they need to look deeper at that trainer.
I don 't know the guy at all, never heard of him, in fact, but now I know to take a second look if he ever is in this area for a clinic or whatever.

Problem is if you can not say, or do not have the cajones to do so … leaving it out there as a vague innuendo then appears petty, lacking substance and making it really useless.
Other than perhaps noting that this person posting [but not posting] has ‘issues’.
I met Todd a few times when he and I worked at ISF… He did a good job there from what I saw, and I never heard a bad word about him… for what that’s worth.
So, while I have given my personal knowledge of having met him and knowing riders who worked with him 2 or 3 days a week, the person making innuendo has not even given that much information to give her comments credibility… And I guess THAT is my point really.
Ask yourself this: Would the people with the kind of money it takes to buy Otto, really buy him for a crap rider? Or would they be investing all that $ in a horse of that calibre for the rider they think is highly, if not the most qualified to take the ride? It’s not like they are running out and buying any of us a horse to ride… I imagine they know what they are doing and do not invest their money willy-nilly. [insert eye roll here]
Those are good points, and similar to my thinking. Again ‘why do I like Todd Flettrich’ isn’t even in the ballpark, I don’t like or dislike. What I don’t like is the Heathers Method of Evaluating Trainers. Everyone in this business has someone p***** off at them. A rider coming up thru the ranks and taking a crack at the international level has more enemies than most, anyone who dares do that is opening themselves up to all sorts of vicious gossip, no matter how decent they are or aren’t. And anyone who has wealthy clients that help them along tends to raise some hackles, especially locally.
Hear, hear SLC2.
I’m amazed at the things I hear about some trainers! Many of which I know aren’t true. It only demeans us as a sport to give time to this kind of pettiness.
It’s pretty sad when you can tell how well you’re doing because it’s in direct proportion to the bad things that are said about you.
I think SLC is referring to the black comedy movie, “Heathers,” in her posts about Todd Flettrich. I wanted to point this out because I think readers are getting confused and assuming that this has something to do with Heather Blitz, who trained Otto to Grand Prix. SLC - could you please confirm and clear up the confusion.
I don’t know the story behind the sale of Otto, but I had the same thoughts as Elly. I am so sorry that Heather lost the ride on him. Not only did she train him to Grand Prix, she was quietly quite successful in Europe with him, even placing above Isabell Werth and Warum Nicht!
Yes I am referring to the movie ‘Heathers’. That is where the catty comments belong - in a movie where Chris Slater blows up buildings and feeds people Drano.
Heather Blitz is awesome. I really admire her. She has done a lot and worked very hard. She is very good at riding the hot horses.
And for all you guys know the owner of Otto is out there purchasing another horse for her or the plan all along was to sell Otto, that usually is the deal, in fact, the owners don’t buy these horses to find a way to make donations to charity, you know. They are usually purchased at great cost, it costs way up in six figures a year to show and compete them, they need to be sold when their value is at a peak and the buyer comes along. Trainers know that. It is the kind of thing an amateur can’t imagine ‘recovering’ from, but the professionals have to do that all the time. Besides, the successes with Otto prove her to many other customers and she always has the pleasure of seeing someone else be able to ride a horse she trained correctly. A real trainer gets a lot of pleasure from that and it’s like watching their ‘kids’ grow up and make a name for themselves. It is also like adding to one’s resume and it is just good for them.
Or the trainer and owner have moved on and are workign with other trainers/owners. It is unusual for a trainer/owner relationship to last more than 2 yrs or for horses to stay with one trainer/owner forever, that is very unusual. This IS a business you guys after all!
And as for Heather Blitz, she will be fine. There will be plenty of other horses for her, she has made her niche with Otto and proven herself with him and many other horses!

And usually there are as many sides to the story as there are participants… and somewhere in the middle of them all is the actual truth.

Yep.
I saw him ride and train horses in Germany.

Sounds like you have a bit more history than that. You seem to be on a personal vendetta for whatever reason.
That’s a bit of a leap. Then again you are the queen of the vendetta!
