Heidi Degele competing in Amateur???

Is dressage a competition of how much you sacrifice, or of how well you do dressage?

I’m well aware of that.

Heidi Degele plays by the rules and, btw, this was her first CDI ever. Congrats!!!

[So I am rooting for her in case she ever googles her name and finds this stupid thread about her, she’ll see that only the OP had a problem with her.]

Dear lord that info makes this thread even worse.

Horse competitions are about sacrifice. If your not living in a van down by the river your accomplishments mean nothing!:lol:

Some of you are mean as coiled up, hungry, disturbed snakes looking to strike.

opinions are beautiful in that no one has to share one with anyone else. Do you realize how small you appear when you attempt to bully people into sharing yours? And it’s the same people doing it on every thread. Just as you’re telling others to get out and ride, perhaps hold that mirror right up to yourself and smell some calming oils. Jeez.

If you have a van, you haven’t sacrificed enough. Now, if you’re living in a refrigerator box, that’s a different story.

Really? So, what do you call the person who complains about and denigrates someone, BY NAME on a public forum, someone who is doing something that is perfectly legit, withing the rules, and within her rights? Whining because she thinks there will be some competition in her class? I find that pretty ugly.

You probably thought it was terrible that I called her a whiner, yet here you are calling other people mean, coiled up, hungry, disturbed snakes. Maybe you would benefit from going out for a nice ride.

Small like the OP complaining about and naming a fellow competitor who’s in a class she is eligible for per the rules? Small like that?

Refrigerator box? That’s luxury! Especially if it’s one of those large American style fridges. You got yourself a mansion there!

Actually, I wasn’t talking about your calling her a whiner, but I don’t think whining is the same thing. BTW I didn’t call them snakes. I discussed behavior. Difference.

We had this discussion about KP. Move on.

You ride, I know that. That isn’t the same for everyone. And yes, I think it matters.

Yes, ma’am! Or, hold the phone, maybe not. Maybe this needs to be discussed often enough that people stop making unfounded accusations against others who are minding their own business and heaven forbid riding in a class they’re eligible to ride in.

About $$ and AAs - a few weeks ago I watched a VERY wealthy woman ride a dressage test on a lovely horse. She has health issues (widely known, no secret). I know she has the money for the best trainers and horses - yet she still has to work damned hard to succeed.
Money isnt everything. Complaining about “rich AAs” is petty and small minded.
Like I said before, ride your own damn test.

Which opinions are you talking about? Most of us here are talking about rules and facts, such as the fact that the USEF definition of an amateur has zero relevance to the CDI amateur division, or the fact that the OP complained about a specific USEF pro by name, but nothing about other “pros” in the class. The whole thing is just weird.

As for mean…welcome to the Internet. Calling someone a whiner is mean, even if they do sound whiny. Dismissing somebody’s accomplishments just because you assume they are wealthy is mean. But so is insinuating that a rider is gaming the system or violating the spirit of competition when she’s doing nothing of the kind.

Thinking I know who you mean - and yes, agree 100%.

There are a lot of them. One of Canada’s leading international GP riders at the moment is an extremely wealthy amateur (by USEF and FEI standards). While she surely has better horses, access to better training and more opportunities than those of us who live paycheque to paycheque, she must be as dedicated to success and work just as hard as any other rider at that level to achieve what she has.

Same reason why I find all the accusations of Charlotte Jorst trying to “buy her way” to a team spot so frustrating. She’s still the one out there putting in the sweat equity and riding the horses. I guarantee you could put me on her horses and I wouldn’t have the same results!

Wow! Some of y’all need yo go take your safe sport training again.

Clearly, the OP has failed her Safe sport training.

But, like for the amateur rule, it’s a CDI governed by the FEI and has nothing to do with USEF…

I am still wondering what’s the connection to this thread???

I am wondering why this thread is still alive
