Thanks for the reminder!
iâve been on there a while, but havenât checked in for a long time. Just went and reactivated. Iâm assuming COTH, as we know it (freee!) and lightly moderated, will be gone. It was fun while it lasted!!
Helgstrand seems to have succumbed to the belief that, because the USA is very big , there must be a HUUUUUUUUGE untapped market for European horses. I have seen the same thing happen in other sports. Usually the industry they are trying to exploit is secondary to a related, US specific sport, that is well supported. ie. F1/NASCAR, MLR/NFL, USEF/AQHA.
A few years ago he was hosting a sales event at his place in Wellington. The sale horses had been flown in for the event. One of the riders advertised as riding the sale horses was (at the time) a member of our Olympic team. The ads for the event included the riderâs name, and that he/she was a US Olympic Team rider.
A friend withdrew her USET donation because of this. The issue was that a US team rider was helping to sell European bred horses in the U.S., while using his/her team member title in the marketing of the event. USET accepts financial support from US breeders.
She said when she called USET and explained why she was withdrawing her donation, they were caught off guard. It was a concept they hadnât considered.
A lot of US breeders already use Helgstrand stallions such as Jovian, Revolution, Total McLaren, Sir Donnerhall, San Amour, etc. As long as the horses are in being born in US and we have access to these bloodlines, it benefits US breeders and riders.
