Unfortunately I can’t keep him, as I can’t afford to board a horse that is sound for occasional light riding. I was looking for a horse I can ride regularly, show, use for lessons, and lease out if need be. This horse is so nice and has a temperament to die for, but soundness is an issue and I can’t expect anything of him except to just be himself. I can’t put him into a work program, even a light one, because it’s not fair to him. If I had land and a place to turn him out, that’d be different, but my needs and budget can’t keep up. It breaks my heart. He’ll be going back to the seller where he has lots of land and a pasture. He’ll be better off with her, getting to just be a horse again. And now she knows too about his situation, so she can be attentive to his needs better.
I’ll keep looking until I find the right one, I suppose. A caliber of horse like him I’ll probably never get to own again. It’s so sad. He is going to be safe now though, and never put into a bad situation. That’s what he deserves.
