Sorry, guess that was “baby machine”.

Really?

:no: I literally just got off the phone about an hour ago with a Mare Owner out East who sent several mares to Jill’s on good faith to be used in her breeding program. One mare ended up being gravely injured and euthanized, owner showed up to Jill’s unannounced to find unsuitable living conditions for the horses, and the neighbor who apparently found the injured mare told a completely different story of how the mare was injured than what Jill told the owner.
All one has to do is a search on this forum for “Jill Burnell” and enough disturbing threads pop up that I think I would find a better home for my mare. More and more people keep popping out of the woodwork on a daily basis in regards to what’s happening there and people coming forward with bad dealings with her. Why anyone would want to send a mare to her right now is beyond me?
Yes REALLY Holly. I have no issue with the mares being bred every year none at all. I take tremendous issues with the large numbers of mares including per this thread the adding of new mares when you can’t pay you bills or manage properly those you have.
Like many have said her place is TINY. Those who have visited have found large numbers of mares and foals housed in small dirt pens without shelter many in less then ideal condition. If she bred dogs you’d bet your tooshie someone would call it a puppy mill. Regardless of the quality of mares , stallions or offspring (none of which are in dispute).
I have no dog in this fight, but writing bad checks is a criminal offense. Like, a go to jail offense.
If she has allegedly bounced as many checks as some posters are claiming, why has no one taken her to court?
Yet another example of when you sell a horse, it’s sold, and all the first rights of refusal and promises to give the horse a good home are no guarantee that a horse will end up in a good situation. Especially if you take the horse to a public sale or auction.
I am sorry for the OP – I am sure you had a reason you wanted to lease your broodmare.
I hope the OP, obie, gets her mare back safely.
Again. Let me explain again. I am not defending the person since I have NO knowledge of her, but AGAIN, hysteria and teh name callin, bashing, hand-wringing is not going to convince anyone of your cause.
The “really” was about the hystrionics, not the subject matter, which seems to have gotten lost completely.
I understand and my really was that I don’t believe that calling a spade a spade is hysteria.
I would 100% agree if there were not multiple first hand accounts or reputable persons experiences with said subject matter.
For one I think she has LOVELY mares and nice stallions and would like to have seen her program flourish. Its just frustrating with accounts of bad husbandry and money issues that she is still acquiring more mares … while continuing with the other negatives.
I have been to two inspections at Gray Fox, the mares and foals looked fine as did the stallions, some overweight. She had a large pasture for the mares, I didn’t see small dirty pens, they must have been somewhere else. I don’t know Jill, nor do I do business with her. I believe that some of you that have had business dealings with her have had problems. I am finding people commenting who are just jumping in without any personal knowledge or dealings with Jill.
The person who said that her stallions should be gelded since they aren’t stallion quality is way out of line, she has very nice and well bred stallions, I saw very nice foals from not very nice mares, so give the stallions some credit. I was surprised to find that she breeds nice horses after hearing so many bad comments about her.
It would be nice if those who have experience with her, just stick to the facts of their own experince in dealing with her. There are some very mean people on this forum.

Holly You post that you don’t know Jill (as I do) and you certainly don’t know me. . If you think you can twist my posts… rake me through the coals for selling my mare to Jill Burnell over 3 years ago and then “pretend” you weren’t referring to me personally…Think again. Just check out the RED highlighting and your snarky misinformed posts # 52.60 & 61. It serves purpose here (but of course …you must know that) …
Please…Please concentrate on the OP’s issue…
The issue is the welfare of the mares…
You were 9 when I was breeding warmbloods. Sometimes things don’t go as you plan…no matter what you have done to ensure a good outcome. Pray you never experience the kind of heartache as others here have …I’m in good company with Magic Rose and HP and the many more reading this thread. I wholeheartedly agree with Kwill…READ her post…and THIS time for COMPREHENSION and ACCURACY.
Your post #60 VERBATIM

Jill had purchased the renown mare Grand Affair and wanted her sister…Grande Divina Both were confirmed in foal to GFF stallions. Grand Affair foal to Redwine -she had a colt - Rain Boots. Grande Divina had a 2010 Aloha filly later named Accessorized.
I had just consigned Divina at Leesburg’s 2009 Fall Hunter & Sporthorse Auction. She negotiated to buy . A deal was struck but she backed out of the deal and I ended up sending Divina to the auction. FINE. Jill bid by Phone. As soon as her name circulated …the bidding stopped. She ended up with her. I left the grounds unsure of who was going to care for Divina. I was told she may go out the next day.
Grande Divina stood in a stall at Morven Park long after the auction ended. She ended up shipping from there a few weeks later. Grand Affair loaded in PA …not a roomy box stall but a tied straight stall. I was horrified !! They shipped out …standing and tied…to California. That was simply cheap & inhumane.
inhumane....cruel, savage, brutal, severe, harsh, grim, unkind, heartless, atrocious, unsympathetic, unfeeling, uncompassionate
I never knew the good soul who took care of Divina those days/weeks in VA… thank them for their humanity in dealing with Jill Burnell’s lack of concern for “her” new purchase.
OP…turn that horse around!!!
You will have regrets beyond those you have now. Perhaps you can lease her to a credible person on her way back home!!
YES…know how valuable this mare is…I owned her dam…the Lucky Boy daughter. She has a wonderful son Grande Phoenix showing in the hunters. It is so disheartening that your girl is out there…somewhere.
And for those who don’t care about the mares & babies standing in those small paddocks…I DO!!! GFF (Jill Burnell) is located on a public road in full view… you don’t have to live there…I have my sources. It is sickening to hear Jill Burnell is actively expanding her already burgeoning load of “TOP producers”.
The worst case scenario of grossly overextending for the Love of Greed!
As to the OP my best advice… do not pass go ship your mare home.
I have been a warmblood breeder for over 30 years. Often, my mares are sought out for breeding. Their future homes are considered when I sell them. Grande Divina would be going with her full sister Grand Affair. They were pasture mates before they were sold. At the time we were discussing the sale Jill was considered a “good home for life”.
Please concentrate on the OP’s issue…

I do not know Holly. Never met her that I am aware of…I PM’ed IronHorse Farm…Holly several times and politely asked her to correct her inaccuracies taken out of context from my posts which she made full quotes. Her PM response
" I didn’t quote you the 1st time - you simply ASSumed that I was talking about you."(Caps duly noted Thank You for that!)

Holly, If you’re looking for entertainment; go elsewhere…
tune into a re-run of Mean Girls or try the Snarky Posting Troll on the kiddie pages where they “LIKE” live for that kind of crap.
Jesus… I do not know Jill nor do I business with her.
But OP please get your mare back home or let her stay where she is at the shipper until you find a good home for her close to that place.
People who fail to be reachable when they have a horse send to them nor pay the shipper I would not trust - good record before or no good record before no matter. Leasing out is about trusting ! So get her back…
The rediculous remarks about JBs stallions (gelding them etc.) I had to laugh about. I know Redwhine from Germany and he is a very very nice stallion especially for the purpose to breed nice hunters ! The quality of the stallion has nothing to do with any kind of management that is done about him. If people fail to see that they should really start waking up.
To the person who sold her two mares: if you want all the ladiladi of good home, neat travel etc. etc. than just do not sell them ! I really do not get such kind of behavior. If you want a horse to be treated the way you want it to be treated - you can only do it yourself - so keep it !
If one sells it, the buyer has all rights to do what he wants, unless he breaks laws e.g. for letting the animals starve etc.
You either go into the horse industry and accept the deeds that it brings or if you can not cope with that than just do not do horsebusiness and sell stuffed animals !!! I find this kind of way unprofessional for a breeder or horseperson. Just my two cents !
No knowledge of Jill.
I am just hoping that the OP’s mare is on her way back east. Nobody reputable that I know would just leave a new horse with the shippers.
OP, please check back in.

Here’s a FACT:
Rate My HorsePro’s legal researcher sent me this:
They stated to me that the warrant is still outstanding.
http://www.ratemyhorsepro.com/userfi...MyHorsePRO.pdf
I know things are different in Canada versus the US and perhaps even from State to State within the US, but if this warrant was issued and is still active, does it not get served in some manner to JB where she HAS to appear in court on a certain date to answer the charges or she is held in contempt of court and someone shows up at her door to arrest her and toss her in jail?
Or maybe thats just how they do it on TV and not in “Real Life” …

Succinctly put and directly to the issue. The fact that she is irresponsible to a horse in transit (esp a leased horse that someone else owns and is entrusting her with!) this really screams foul.
No personal experience with warrants :), but I have read that a lot of the minor ones (i.e. nonviolent offenses) just hang around on record waiting for the person to come conveniently to the police without spending man hours hunting them, such as at a traffic stop. The police have too many things to do to spend time actively pursuing every single warantee.
Let’s recap.
Waldenbrook Farm (John French) took her to Small Claims Court to recover $5000 she owed him. (And good for him, for actually proceeding with legal action ).
She failed to appear at the Small Claims hearing in Feb. 2010. John French apparently DID attend the hearing and judgment was rendered in his favor. IOW, the court ordered her to pay Waldenbrook Farm $5125 (I assume the extra $125 was to cover his court costs).
She apparently failed to pay per the judgment, so the court ordered her to appear at another hearing on Sept. 20, 2010. She failed to appear at that hearing also, so the court issued a warrant for her arrest on Sept. 22, 2010, with bail set at $5000.
That was over 17 months ago. So she STILL hasn’t been arrested? She better have a good lawyer since she has now ignored THREE separate court orders revolving around this one case. I can’t imagine how much her bail will be once the law finally catches up with her!
Meanwhile she is out at horse shows, and is able to send funds to IHF for her stallions’ nomination fees, etc. Just wow.
Ha. She is probably not speeding anymore, to avoid arrest. She just contacted the HV regarding activating her stallion, trying to go around AHS which is owed money from another bad check.
Arrest warrants for non-violent offenders are not often made a priority. However, if she gets stopped for a traffic violation, they will do a warrants check and she will be arrested.
And, a few times a year, they do a “warrants sweep” where they actually go seek out those with outstanding non-violent warrants.
It will catch up to her eventually.
You can read all about her breeding plans, which she posted this morning, on HGS.
What is HGS?
