Help!!! Walmart has sucked me in!...

Target DOES have great horseshow and stable supplies. Those bundles of towels that someone else mentioned, plus the travel stuff AND the frames for those show pics, mirrors for the dressing rooms… and of course the garden dept. for outdoor furniture, plants and planters AND hoses, spray nozzles, buckets… the list is endless!

But I must confess, like Findeight, I’m a Home Depot girl. Last week they had a big sale on heat lamp bulbs PLUS the clip on lamps… less than $10 for the whole set up! Our washrack is so toasty now Which is a good thing, since the last few days it has been about 20 degrees around here…BRRRRRRR!

Austin, the epitome of 24-hour offerings, has a 24-hour Wal-Mart. I cannot tell you how many times my dorm-mates and I frequented the local WallyWorld at two or three o’clock in the morning.

Now that I’ve moved out on my own, I’ve upgraded my shopping taste to the Tar-jay which happens to be located less than a mile away from my apartment. Somehow I just feel CLASSIER going to the Target than the Wal-Mart, if you can believe that.

you have them in Arkansas?! I have one at the end of my road - the other day a customer survey person was in there and complained to the check out clerk that “no women came in” - the clerk, said there was “just one” - and yep, a few minutes later, in I came, looking for something like: a valve for the Ritchie waterers, an emergency pair of bell boots, an extension cord so that I can plug the floating tank heater in, penicillin, steel toed Kodiak work boots in women’s sizes, etc etc etc…
who else bought the GREAT tractor Christmas lights??

I too, boycott Walmart - they have killed the downtowns of countless small towns - and now that I know about the emergency birth control policy -
I would hazard a guess that much of what they sell is not medically “necessary”…

Much better to support your small local retailer, and try to keep your town alive!

College gives you a new appreciation for Wal Mart and the dangers there-of. Speaking of dangers of WalMart, a few weeks ago I went in the non - food entrance (oh yeah baby,it’s a Super WalMart) It had been snowing, the floors were wet, my shoes were slick, I slipped, skidded, scrambled, and careened into a HUGE display of Rubbermaid boxes. Knocked the entire stack (eight bins long, seven bins high, five bins wide) down because I took out the entire bottom rows. I clamored my way out of the boxes, stood up, looked at all of the people around me, and took a bow. After all, what else does one do once one has disrupted WalMart world…

I don’t mind walmart… my dad works part time for one and it’s fairly new (plus his 10% discount helps too). Closest to me though is either Meijer (for those who aren’t mid-west… it’s like a super walmart kinda) or kmart. Kmart is the closest, but seems kinda run down. I don’t really care for Target all that much and Meijer about breaks my budget every time.

Garden stuff? Tractor Supply!!! Actually, I just started working there part time as of last night. Pay isn’t outstanding or anything, but it’s extra horse show money… plus the 15% discount and I’m a happy camper!

Just wait Maria, if Fuquay is anything like Danville, WalMart will become the cultural center, there will be people there are all hours, you will see someone you know even at four AM and there will usually be pick up truck convention near the back of the parking lot.

Oh my god!! I miss all of those places, Wal-mart, K-mart and especially Target! I moved to Lake Placid, NY a little over a year ago and even though I love it here in the mountains I am dying for a little civilization. The closet Wal-mart and K-mart are an hour away and Target is 2 hours away. The only thing we have here is Ames and it is the grossest place on earth. I miss wandering the aisles of wonderful cheap things I have absolutely no need for!

(The MJ posts are so depressing I had to start something else.)

I just ran in for pantyhose I swear! What is a princess to do?..

But then I went in the back entrance to avoid the front lines…
Is it me or are lawn stuff getting fancy? I left with a new hose (not panty), hose cart/box, set of stepping stones, some things called an ‘estate trim fence’ (about 7" tall), nice picnic dishes w/matching silverware… All ment for my horsevan/show stuff (and of course for COTH get togethers)

I would have gotten the cool fountian for $50 but Mr. Showjumps has put me on an allowance! Wouldn’t that be awesome for shows?! Since I am going to all those Arab shows this year I am thinking I should ‘work’ on him about it I hate NOT to fit in…

BTW forgot the pantyhose and had to stop off at Foodlion

College definitely gives you a new perspecitive on the wonders of WalMart. I always try to come up with the most random combinations of stuff to buy there and see if I get any weird looks from the checkout clerk. My personal goal is to one day go in and buy both a live lobster and a can of goldfish food

We are getting a Wally World in the little town that I live. I just hope it’s better than the one that is 20 minutes down the road. YUCK

GIVE ME TARGET!!

I can not get out of that store without spending AT LEAST 80 bucks.

Love it.

365 days a year, why do they have locks on the doors? hmmmmm…

It ain’t easy living in the Adirondacks, is it? I live in St. Lawrence County and have to make the trek to Lake Placid to visit the Gap! Or go to Ottawa.

And it doesn’t look as if there will ever be a Walmart in LP or Saranac Lake. But that’s not entirely negative.

I do agree though that Ames is disgusting. The stores are always dirty, have nothing, and the staff doesn’t really care whether you live or die – or if you ever come back.

Walmart is evil…if everything has such an “everyday low price” then why in the HELL can’t I get out of there for less than 150 bucks???

GRRRRR

Only two, only two, only two more months!! Fence plans in the making!!!

I started quasi-boycotting Walmart when they made it a corporate policy to not sell emergency contraceptives in their pharmacies. As the 5th largest pharmacy chain in the country, this means that in some communities, women will not have access to this.

Now, I know that a woman could get a prescription for BC pills and take 3 or 4 to accomplish the same thing, but that is irrelevant.

When I called to verify this, the woman I spoke with at the corporate offices, said that “the board of directors doesn’t feel that it is medically necessary”. Ummm, excuse me, but the last time I checked, most members of the board of directors were not medical doctors.

Yet, they sell Viagra and this IS medically necessary?

Oh, good side effect of not going to Walmart or only going when absolutely necessary…I save a ton of money not buying things that I don’t really need.

I now go to Target, which is cleaner, has shorter lines and nicer stuff. I used to be a Walmart fan, loved it, owned the stock, but now that I’ve avoided it for almost 2 years…I notice it is dirty inside, staff aren’t so good anymore, and it stinks in the SuperWalmarts.

Fuquay is getting a Walmart!!! Wow! And you’re right, the Garner one is so bad I refuse to go in it.

He, he! WE are getting a Target. Of course we have to put up with Raleigh (in the form of Wakefield) on our doorstep, but still…

I feel a little better now. At least I have the Gap and Bass. I love Bass!! Now that I have you attention perhaps you can give me an idea of the horse community up here. I’m kind of a “retired” trainer (read stressed out and ran away) from the A circuit but would like to get back into teaching and riding on a very small scale. I know there isn’t much but it’s been long enough I wouldn’t mind touching base once in a while. Any help would be appreciated.

While at the Gulfport shows, some friends and I went to the SuperWalmart at 11PM to pick up some items. Never have I been put off more from Walmart than from this one. 1st of all we had to sneak in the 24 HOUR Walmart since they had locked the doors we were trying to go in through. We hunted and found the things we wanted and then went to check out where an associate told us the registers were closed. Closed??? I gave her a puzzled look and repeated the registers were closed. So we walked down the rows of closed registers in the opposite direction from where the car was. Finally we found a register that was not completely blocked off and were able to check out. We then had to attempt to get out. We were planning on going out the way we had come in, but Ms. The registers are closed was standing guard and we decided to go out the long way since she would have herded us that way anyway.
I never liked Walmart before, now I am not sure I ever want to go back unless it was a last resort. My horse will be getting stuff from Target.
