HELP! Zombie Rednecks trying to kill me! (long)

There’s a special kind of stupid in this world and I’m sure that my little town has the majority of it concentrated in a tiny area…unfortunately, that area is situated right smack in the middle of where I’m currently boarding my precious, fragile, babies. The “zombies” smell either money or vulnerability and they are attacking…with a vengeance!

HEY! I’m semi new, being a lurker for the better part of several years, however I registered mainly to get some advice from people who have, were, or went through a similar situation and can offer some much needed advice… First let me say that yes I now have a camera in hand and yes i’m in touch with my lawyer at the moment. but i’m waiting on the lawyer and I need ADVICE from EXPERIENCE if it is to be had. …like NOW. lol

The problem: I moved from a super nice barn with all the fixins… to the slap middle of nowhere. I hoped to accomplish a few things actually; closer to home, not a lot of people (I thought less drama), LESS MONEY on board and MORE MONEY on tack I’d never use. All the important things. …mama needs some new boots OKAY?!

I moved to a little country barn that i could walk to FROM MY HOUSE! AND is situated nicely by, I thought (quiet) country road where I was hoping to advertise to a few locals for lessons and being close to the road…what better way to advertise, right? WRONG! It has been a nightmare: The local “wild-life” has done gone rabid.

It started with me reprimanding a few locals about the way they drive around horses to warning the dog owners to leash the dogs as I have as much right on the road as a car and i WILL BE treated with respect or they lose a dog. And these dogs BITE. they already attacked one of the other horses. god forbid they do it to one of my babies.

The locals are pitching a fit. As of a few days ago they have driven by the barn several times and conveniently the minutes I get on to ride they lay drag right in front of the barn and scare my horse, they throw things out, they holler and now when I have them out to feed they’re slowing down the driveway and then revving the engines up spooking the horses so bad they can’t be caught for several minutes. I went riding on the road maybe a week or so ago and someone sped up, turned around and PURPOSELY tried to swipe us with his mirror going about 40. .luckily my boy s the best horse in the world. And i did call the police for that.

I’m ANGRY. I haven’t called the police…as It does no good without proof. And that’s where my cameras come in. I have a camera on me at ALL TIMES now. Hoping to catch some evidence to use.

Anyone WANNA CHIME IN?! Anything i can do legally? before I get hurt?!

I realize that this is closing the barn door after the horses have escaped, but I feel compelled to point out that your first mistake was to come in with guns blazing. Yes, it sounds as though the neighborhood needs to be educated about how to drive, control their dogs, and just generally behave, around horses. But from your post, it sounds like you maybe came on a little strong and created the antagonizing atmosphere you now find yourself in.

That out of the way, I don’t think there is anything you can legally do. If it were me, I might try to make nice with them and see if you can undo the damage. They are taking a “we were here first” attitude and hoping to drive you and your horses out again. Maybe invite some of these neighbors over to the farm to meet the horses, explain why attacking horses is dangerous for the dogs, as well as for you and your horse. Point out, kindly, that driving fast and too close could startle your horse and get them two iron shod hooves into the side of their car. Not a cheap fix and the law will be on your side.

You essentially started the war with this attitude: "It started with me reprimanding a few locals about the way they drive around horses to warning the dog owners to leash the dogs as I have as much right on the road as a car and I WILL BE treated with respect or they lose a dog."

Bold mine. Reprimanding? Seriously? If some total stranger on a horse had the temerity to “reprimand” me I would get a little pissed off too. It would have gone over better to explain why slowing down and giving a horse on the road a wide berth is recommended. Treat me with respect or I’ll kill your dog? Yeah, I’m afraid that would go over like a fart in church too.How about, “My horse can be unpredictable around dogs. I’m concerned for your dog’s safety as well as my own. Can you please keep him leashed around the horses? He could get hurt.”

Same message, easier to swallow. Look, I know you are angry and you have every right to be. But based solely on your post, I think you started it, so you now have to find a way to fix it.

Best of luck.

there’s an old saying my grandfather always used to cheerily say:
“if you meet one a$$ on the road, it’s them… if you meet two, it’s you.”

I must have come on to strong. Especially as the dogs were proceeding to attack me, my horse and animal control being notified. I guess I should have given them a treat and told them to sit and play nice instead. lol.

You need to treat others with respect before you can expect to be treated as such.

It is the same as asking advice on this forum.

Perhaps you could move back to your old facility.

You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Unfortunately, you seem to have “pissed off” multiple individuals. I am unsure how you go about changing the reputation that you have developed. If possible, I would move back to the old facility.

So glad the city girl could move in and set the country folk on the right past. They survived before you and will survive after you leave. I think you might need to make nice with everyone. Baked goods and an apology normally does the trick.

Some people just can’t relate well with others. From your post I think you probably handled the way they drive and how they keep their dogs very, very wrong. You got them angry and now you are in danger and I fear the horses may be too.

I had a neighbor who was having issues with a neighbors dog. They handled it in the same fashion as yours. The result was her horses were shot at and several of her dogs were tortured and poisoned ( on her property). Nothing could be proven.

Move back to a traditional boarding barn.

Get your horses out of there before they are targeted.

It is too late for you to remedy this.
Pissed off locals and neighbors will escalate.

If there is a next move to a similar situation, you will need a very different approach.

Everyone settle your panties! I hope you guys don’t think I actually moved in and immediately tried to start riots?!

Ya’ll don’t think that right?! I didn’t. I promise. LOLOLOL:lol: There is so much more to the picture I didn’t paint. I’m not a painter, okay?

Anyway, I think i’m going to go ahead and turn in my 30 days. From day one it has been a nightmare with the neighbors and other people breaking in on four wheelers chasing EVERYONE’S horses and stealing money from my truck, and countless other things from the farm in general, needles/syringes in the pasture, woods damn near set on fire because some looney tune pitched a tent and tried to rough it without putting out the fire…people shooting through the woods and all this before I decided to play Joan of Arc against a sea of infidels. but i wanted so bad to make this place amazing. I was going to help them build a new round pen, set up new fence lines, fix the barn and stuff for them. I wanted to help so bad. but the people around here really are a nightmare and you are RIGHT… they dont like me, i dont like them and we are at an impasse…

So yea…i’m out. At least i will finally have my hot/cold wash rack back. sigh

Some of you guys sound like a tough group. I like it. Think I’ll stick around and ask for more punishment. :o:) besides who doesn’t love a snobby little citified rich girl who shoots puppies and tries to tear a community apart with her blasphemous ways. "GO OVER LIKE A FART IN CHURCH!!! " HAHAHAHA who said that?!?! i’m using it.

I’m actually not a rich city girl btw. but thanks for the compliment.

Most recent post is not coming off much better than the original. You might want to dismount your high horse before someone knocks you off it!

In Proverbs 15 we’re told that “A soft answer turneth away wrath.” No one needs abide vicious dogs on a public highway but approaching the owner(s) and calling them “a filthy, misogynistic, inbred redneck(s)” as an opening gambit is not exactly what Proverbs suggests. Neither is a DEMAND for respect.

Most knowledgeable horsemen know that when you want to introduce a new horse into a herd you remove the old horses from their pasture and put the new horse in. Then you introduce the old horses one at a time. This gives the new horse a bit of a “home court advantage” in the new herd and may well result in a smoother, and less injury producing, introduction. When a body mores into a new neighborhood they are the new comer and the home court advantage lies elsewhere. Smart people think about that.

Seems that a serious attempt at a “reset” is in order, here. Maybe that’s possible and maybe not. If not I predict much unhappiness.

If this barn is so close to your house that you can walk to it, how were you not already aware of what was happening in the area? Wouldn’t those people also be practically your neighbors as well?

BTW, if you are having such difficulties and the “locals” are intentionally trying to spook the horses, I hope you are wearing a helmet. Especially when riding, and especially if you are out on roads with motor vehicles,

I am horrified that people are supporting someone turning around and trying to hit the OP just because she came off as strong and snotty.

You guys are ridiculous. Her poor way of addressing the situation does not deserve the life threatening harassment. I hope everyone feels better about themselves now that they gave her the what for since she deserved the treatment.
