Hickstead's height?

Anyone know Hickstead’s actual height?

16.2hh I believe.

I’ve seen him in person, he’s about 16hh.

interesting … on TV the other night, Melanie Smith Taylor said he is a wee little thing - about 15’3. So far about the closest I have been is 20 feet away when he is about 6’ i the air, getting some hang time over an oxer, so I couldn’t say for sure…

I believe he is only 15.3hh, and looks like a wiry thoroughbred in person. Erik is rather short so he fits the horse very well. Cedric is only about 15.2hh. Great to see the smaller horses with such amazing talent on the international scene!

Oh, I have never seen him in person, so I would go with those who have. I found online at a few sites that he was 16.2h. I didn’t realize he was much smaller. He’s gorgeous at any height!

This is where I saw he was 16.2

However, I should have looked closer b/c Spruce Meadows has him listed at 16h. Sorry! http://www.sprucemeadows.com/weg/jumping/elamaze.htm

Seems like he has the heart of a 20.H horse. That was some going. What a ride.

I’d imagine his height would be in the 15 range since a lot of people told him he would be too small to be a good jumper. I don’t think anyone would consider 16.2 to be too small.

Did you see where I corrected my first post?

I have seen him and have a picture of me with him (which unfortunately is not on this computer). I would say is he is 16.2 or 16.3 and as someone said he is very light and fine looking, you’d probably not guess he’s a KWPN stallion

The commentators on CBC Bold were saying he is small and I wondered how small.

Edwina Alexander’s horse is a tiny little thing, too–looks even smaller.

No offense to the commentators, for the most part I think they do a really good job. But a lot of times I think they honestly have no clue

The male one, in particular! In their defense (and as he keep reminding us!) they are not actually announcing from the event, but rather watching from their studios in New York. Also, I have to keep reminding myself that they are not catering their commentary to a horse-savvy crowd.

I’ve never seen Hickstead in person, so I don’t know. What I can say is that Eric is really quite short, and has ridden a lot of small horses. So the horse is probably shorter than he appears when Eric rides him.

There is just the teeniest, tiniest, wee possibility that Melanie Smith Taylor has a clue. Oh I admit, it’s an outside chance, but we must keep it in mind as a small possibility.

Brown Stallion
Height:

16hh
Born: 1996
Place of Birth: Holland
Breeding: KWPN: Hamlet / Ekstein

Hickstead is definately not 16hh, he was stabled down the aisle from us at Spruce and he looks very small in his stall…I would say 15.2ish. However as soon as you see him go his presense makes him appear much bigger, and of course he thinks he is about 18hh

Where do people get this information?

Although Hickstead was registered KWPN at birth, but is not approved for breeding with the KWPN. He is approved NRPS, which is the “other” dutch studbook.

Hickstead is listed as 1.64 m, which is about 1/2" over 16 hh.

I too have seen him at Spruce (when I had one of my horses competing there) He is not over 16h. 15.3 would be quite close; if he were sticked.

Amazing horse for SURE!!!

It’s always that “inches” thing that gets so much attention! Huge LOL!
