homozygous color stallions

This is a horrible and strange post to make. My mare died yesterday leaving a one day old filly. I have procured a nurse mare that will be here tonight and if all goes well they will bond. Part of the agreement with the nurse mare is to return her pregnant. I have not seen her yet but I believe she is a Tb. The orphaned foals from this particular place are adopted/ sold/ placed in rescue. Colored foals have the fastest rate of rescue/ adoption/purchase. I am going to ask the guy if I can rescue/ buy the foal next year, but not sure if that is possible. Therefore I am trying to research for a homozygous colored stud, maybe QH or pony? to give the resulting foal the best chance of a good home if I cannot take it.

Suggestions? This is obviously on short notice so time if of the essence to start researching stud options to get this mare back in foal.

Please let’s not debate the ethics of nurse mares. I hear everyone, I understand. I just lost my beloved mare of 16 years, buried her this morning, and am trying to give her last foal, a keeper filly for me, the best chance of a healthy life. I will do everything I can to make sure the foal I produce with the nurse mare the best chance of a good home if it cannot be with me.

I am so saddened for your loss. Deepest sympathies and good luck to you and the little one. Sorry I can be no help though regarding your query.

I don’t know much about nurse mares. But, I am sooo sorry to hear about you mare. Best wishes in finding a nurse mare.

When are you looking to breed? Do you know?

I will offer up my Guaranteed Gold stallion as a possible option for you. He is cremello so will 100% guarantee a dilute colour on the baby - buckskin, palomino, smoky black. The only issue with him is that he leaves in about 3 weeks for his new home so it would need to be before that.

And before he leaves, I have a deal going where you just pay the booking fee of $295.00 - first collection included in there - so the breeding cost would be low for you

Im so sorry about your mare and hope the little one manages well …

So sorry for your loss and heartbreak - godspeed to your mare.

What is your budget?

So very sorry for your loss and hope the new baby does well.

I was just going to suggest Guaranteed Gold also as his get are very saleable
and I’ve seen enough photos of them to know he throws beautiful, athletic babies.

Very sad news  So sorry for you and all the best for your filly!!!

Do you want “Pinto” or just a “different” color?? Do a Google search and you will find LOTS of HZ tobiano studs…some very cheap. “Counter Claim” in Fla is HZ tobiano, 16.2+ and 75% TB…if you can get the foal back…this would be a nice cross. Reasonable fee, too!!

So Sorry you lost your mare, but hopefully the nurse mare will adopt the baby. Did your orphan get colostrum? It is the end of May, some might say it’s getting lat in the year to breed.

Could you ask what they get $ for their orphans, and offer that in lieu of a foal? It would be much less stress on the mare, although she won’t be able to nurse next year.

There was a recent thread about a TB stallion that is a paint and throws color.
I’ll try to find it. Maybe post a pic of the mare and a link to her bloodline when you can?

In some places riding mules are in demand, and get great homes.

What ever you do, I suggest breeding for a great brain and great feet over anything else, a foal with those qualities should do well.

If you’re looking for a pony size foal, google cremello welsh pony stallion and several cute studs come up w/ decent show records. Tb/Welsh crosses are very desireable in eventing for petite, young riders.

So sorry for your loss and all the best for your filly!

So very sorry about the loss of your dear mare, and very best wishes for the filly.

Working cow horse is huge out here. A friend of mine has a paint horse she’s won on.

Not sure if he’s homozygous or not but check out this guy

When you get her you’ll have a better idea what discipline she could be a good producer for.

Thinking of you and sending good wishes.

I’m so sorry Blume.

So sorry to hear about your mare, and hope the nurse mare works out for your little filly.

If the mare is a TB with JC papers, and you are interesting in buying her foal, but still want a pinto foal - what about using a colored WB stallion? Sempatico and Pallido Blu are both homozygous tobianos, and both are approved for Oldenburg (OHBS/GOV). That would give you a registered pinto WB foal to either keep or market.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your mare. :frowning:

While I don’t have suggestions other than those already given, I think your question/ search is a good one. You’re doing the best you can to ensure the resulting foal has the best shot at a great home.

Jingles for you and your foal.

I was going to suggest Pallido Blu also. He’s lovely even without the color. HZ tobiano and you’ll get a lovely riding horse with show potential.

I have no helpful suggestions, but I’m so sorry to hear about your mare. :frowning:

Many jingles for the baby and I hope she bonds well with the nurse mare!

Sorry about your mare. It’s amazing that while colored foals used to be discriminated against, for the last 20 yrs or so, people pay extra for color.
Look into breeding the mare to some horse along the Samber line or Ico line if you can afford it. A while back, there was a thread about a Samber stud for sale and someone bought the horse. (Think it was a Samber son.)

Perhaps you could buy the nurse mare? Or her foal? Ask about contracting to do so. Money talks. So offer money to the nurse mare owners. Thank way you can save the mare and the foal from the Krazy Kolor Breeders. (One person on Coth even had a thread about breeding for a white lower lip!!! Which yes, one of us warmbloods has, but not on purpose.)
