Honey the ASB 2.0

Absolutely this. ^^^

Take the check to his bank or a local branch and get cash, right then and there.

I sincerely hope this all works out for you and Honey soon has a new home.

Hope he heals fast
Was he able to come meet and ride her before this hospitalization?

And if you can’t cash it at his bank, it may take up to five days for YOUR bank to determine there is money in HIS account.

Just easy enough to say he can’t take the horse until the check clears.

Hooray!

The money arrived and honey will be leaving for NEW MEXICO in July to be a trail horse for someone who loves saddlebreds.

I appreciate you all for everything over the last year.

Congratulations! I wish you luck in finding your next partner. I recently decided the OTTB I’d taken on last year wasn’t a good match for me and bought myself a really fun draft x mare. Life is too short and horses are too expensive to settle for a horse that’s not working for you.

Thank you! I’m glad you found a horse that you’re excited about.

Honestly, I’m not sure what I’m gonna do. It sounds good to save money, and I’m feeling burnt from horses… however the qh I mentioned before is kinda falling into my lap, which I’ve always hoped would happen to me. He’s legit perfect. Ugh I don’t know.

It is a leap of faith but when you find the right horse, it’s worth it. The ones that don’t work out are painful because it is such an expensive sport that not enjoying it AND knowing how much it costs is a double whammy.

One day I looked in the mirror and realized I was too old to be messing with a horse that reared. The next day I saw an ad for a horse. I went down to try her on the one year anniversary of my mare’s death, and I had such a big smile on my face that I knew I should buy her.

This is not the place to come to ask if you should buy him or not

Keep in mind QHs are by nature quite different then ASBs. They are bred to be working partners not peacocks and most don’t waste the energy showing off requires. All are individuals, of course. Depends on that individual but, generally speaking, there is some truth in that.

IIRC this is an older horse, well known to the trainer for some time. Keep in mind this type horse is much more tolerant, forgiving, able to adapt to an easier, less frequent rider schedule and variety of riders. Usually easier to find a part lease or share board partner for. Sure trainer can assist with that if you do decide to get him.

You do whats best for you but having been through quite a few decades of life’s bad jokes? It’s best to move on, let go and move forward. You can ‘t fix it, you can’t hang around waiting for things to change, you have change or get stuck. IME. BTDT, sucks.

Keep in touch whatever you decide.

The qh isn’t older, I think he’s 10. But he is a very good boy and my trainer has known him for years.

I’m certainly going to think about it. And I’ll stay in touch!

I’m so happy for you! And glad that Honey will be going somewhere to cruise the Great Outdoors with someone who loves her breed. It’s a win-win.

I hope you find the right horse that makes your heart sing. Perhaps it will be this QH. Come back and let us know.

The older horse books written during the Victorian reign recommended 9 year old or older horses for those who have any difficulties riding. They were called "aged horse(s), mature and experienced enough not to get scared by new things.

Younger horses were for professionals, experienced amateurs and younger riders.

And there’s the 20-year formula: Eight year old kid needs at least a 12 year old horse. Ten year old kid needs at least a 10 year old horse, etc.

Honey is 15.

I’ve been using that formula for years. Especially with kids and ponies.

Tough formula when you are in your 60’s!

It’s a minimum of 20 combined years of age. No maximum.
