Horrible rider position at mid-high levels

No it’s not interesting. At the end of the day you came here to publicly shame a rider. Not cool. You used your “trainer” as an excuse. Not cool. Trainer is in quotes because anyone I have ever ridden with would not tolerate such behavior. Focus on your NQR horse and getting beyond schooling shows (Nothing wrong with schooling shows I love them) and ride your horse! Would you want a thread like this to be about you? No one has seen you ride? Post a video.

Bronze is not a schooling show, and the EC Results allow you to search by level, bronze silver or gold. Some dressage shows run concurrently bronze and gold, but there are also freestanding bronze dtessage dhows listed for 2018. When I returned to lessons over a decade ago the local big hunter jumper shows were bronze and certainly listed on EC though I see now they have mostly upgraded to gold.

A bronze show still involves membership or temporary membership in EC and all the associated rules and fees.

A schooling show has none of those fees and can set its own rules on attire, etc.

That said, I also note that there are shows from 2017 that I know happened but have never been posted to EC and shows from 2018 that aren’t appearing promptly either. Hunter jumper results also turn up on Showtime but not dressage.

You’re not being raked over the coals for questioning crank-and-spank style riding. You’re catching heat for trying to tear down a single rider for perceived deficiencies in her riding that, frankly, aren’t even clear from your descriptions (“cranking and spurring”, which implies excessive rider tone/muscling horse around, and “lack of body control”, which implies low tone/fitness). Even if it were appropriate to post this sort of railbird critique (it’s not), the things you’ve posted about this rider are uninformative, the proposition that some rider somewhere in Canada rides badly is uninteresting, and the content on which the original post was based couldn’t possibly generate thoughtful conversation.

This has nothing to do with the level you ride at. Or the fact that you identified some higher level riding that you did not agree with. It’s just that when the outrage is so strong and yet the message is so muddled, people have an instinctual tendency to sidestep the likely personal sh!t and put up a metaphorical “curb your dog” sign.

@Denali6298 she apologized earlier today. Let’s let it lie, please.

I’m afraid I was the poster that started up the idea of it being easy to identify riders from scant information. I didn’t mean that we should. Just a cautionary note that despite the user names, we inadvertently let out enough information that we can’t assume anonymity.

A good rule of thumb: if the person under discussion found the post and recognized themselves, would it cause problems for you? If so, make the question more general. That also helps frame the question as something of wider interest, rather than sounding like a dig at a specific person.

Do you feel better about yourself now?

There are dozens of Bronze shows - almost every Cadora show in ON for example - that don’t show up on the EC results page. I wonder if the problem lies with EC or if show organizers aren’t submitting their results?

It is common in Ontario to refer to Bronze shows as schooling shows. We have very few actual schooling shows, especially in Southern Ontario so lower level riders go to Cadora and Bronze shows of which there are plenty.

Yes, I can see people referring to them or treating them as schooling shows if they are the lowest level of show available. But technically they are still recognized shows that require EC membership, fees, and permission. Also CADORA can run a show at any level it likes, from schooling to Gold, as can any venue or club.

I’d describe myself (and so would my trainer and people I clinic with) as a decent skilled Ammy. Quiet, good with my aids, good eq, nice horse.

I showed last last fall and was none of those things. Sigh. I had a one-off day, I was frazzled (for me) for a variety of reasons- menopause, lay offs at work, rain. I could NOT get it together. If someone I had talked to saw me ride the post could have described me.

It’s hard not to have opinions, preconceived notions etc. I’d hope that we can all support each other and give some slack.

It’s a common topic in h/j to critique at least the pros style and eq etc. I think it’s a fair topic, brought up with unidentifiable specifics when dealing with an Ammy, someone doing it for their own enjoyment or a more general discussion ( which I think the OP has admitted to).

Eberyone have ave a great weekend, no matter you goals or riding.

LOL I get it! I’ve got a big draft cross mare with a canter that is lovely to ride but sitting her trot is tough unless she’s truly through and using her back. Even then its not easy. The minute she loses engagement or I clench in the slightest I’m rebounded into orbit. She’s wide, powerful and not the most elastic in the world. Love her to death and wouldn’t trade her for anything.

So sometimes she looks great and I look ‘competent’, sometimes she looks good and I look like I’m being ‘carried’ around by her. All it ever takes is for someone to ride her and there’s an immediate reassessment of my skills for the better

So, I try not to judge too much if I haven’t ridden the horse myself. Its amazing what a difference there can be between the picture from the ground and the ride in the irons.
