Horse ets spookier with work

My spooky horses want to go see “it” right after they spook and then stare at it for awhile. Sometimes they want to go right away, sometimes they want to stare for longer, but they’re also likely to spook a few more times before they actually get to it.

What they would actually prefer to do, I think, is run around it at full speed, skidding and bucking, until they’re sure it isn’t going to come after them.

Good to know!!! Thanks!!

So not interested in snark. Thanks.

You and three people can stop reading and responding to this thread. Ypu aren’t reading the posts. I’m not going to respond to insults and poor training advice. Yes, there’s a difference between explosive and spooky. Don’t bother to comment.

I’ve read every post you pickle. As I stated. And what training advice did I give you?

What were you looking for, exactly? Did you want everyone to hem and haw and decide you just have a really special horse? Congrats on your horse you can’t ride by a gate. Enjoy.

My vet is certified in acupuncture bet she hasn’t mentioned it. I can ask. Thanks!

I haven’t tried this. We;ve used traditional NH methods to get him to load (oh Lord, that took some time. It rewards him for every inclination forward). Now he’s great. He’s great being handled otherwise. He actually likes interaction with people and strives to figure things out. He has conferred the ‘cone game’ to the mounting block, and he regularly gets to sniff it (different people use it), topple it end over end before mounting.

Thanks!

Not your kind of poor feedback. I want advice from actual trainers. Please, move on from this thread. You aren’t in any position to address the question.

I might not ride 4th level, but I can ride my horse by a gate. And I’ve never had a training issue persist for 6+ years despite the help of the BEST farrier (who your horse can’t hold his feet for without drugs), the BEST dressage trainers (only one of which will ride your horse), the BEST vets, the BEST NH trainer, the BEST nutrition… am I missing anything? Your geologist barn owner?

Yawn. I started out feeling sorry for you. Now I feel more sorry for your horse.

Maybe change the thread title to reflect that?

Umm, no. Many “trainers” have had little to add but many riders have. Feedback like ake987 is sort of useless.

Okay just a suggestion since when you fire back at people you mention them not being a pro.

I too am lost at what it is you are looking for beyond sympathy. Many here posting have fixed their issues with similar horses.

I have learned some great things to do with my mare when she comes back into work so thanks for the thread.

Great. You don’t understand the situation and can’t read posts. Yes, you’re missing alot. As stated, please don’t post on this thread anymore, you’re angry and clueless.

Suggesting you pursue a diagnostic that will provide insight as to whether one of the most logical reasons (pain) a horse may be acting this way for six years is useless? More useless than your last six years of failed training?

It might be time to sit down and perform a little something called introspection. And to stop wearing your head as a hat, and start putting your horse’s welfare first. Because he’s been telling you something is wrong for six years and you haven’t been able to fix it. So maybe I’m not the one who “isn’t in any position to address the question”.

What about his training make it different?

Holes in training become more apparent as one moves up the levels no matter the discipline. He’s showing you a big one and you’re ignoring him because he can do a 4th level test so long as you avoid the gate?

I’ve long stated I’m not looking for sympathy. I know you missed that. I expect people will address my particular horse, which is why I’ve addressed the posts. I don’t think many here have the training expertise to address, although many argue they do. Create your own narrative all you want. I’m looking for pro advice, which I’m getting privately.

Thanks.

No one can address your particular horse without a recent video. We can only suggest based on our experiences because we can’t see what happens leading up to and after the gate. That includes what you are doing in the saddle as well.

Oh brother.

Don’t for a second think I’ll rely people like you to give me feedback on my horse. I have no confirmation regarding your training accolades. Care to provide them?

Wasn’t meant to be snarky. Your reply says a lot though.
