It started this winter, but without fail every time I am putting on his sheet or blanket, out it comes. Day or night, inside or out.
I’m not offended or whatnot, but because its quite, ahem, large - as is he - it kind of gets in the way when Im trying to reach for the belly straps. I often have position myself strategically so it doesnt wack me in the head lol
Does anyone else’s gelding do this? Is he trying to tell me something?
My horse does this too, but usually it’s because he is waiting for me to put him in his stall so he can pee.
I have a “formerly abused”, 17 hand TB who does “that” every time we come back to the barn after a nice ride. I’m guessing he is so happy to have had a nice, non-abusive ride, that he is celebrating!! He also does it when I bathe or vacuum him. It’s not like he’s horny or aroused. It doesn’t offend me…I’m glad he’s happy!!!
My gelding does it all the time. I’m just operating under the impression that he’s relaxed and happy.

All of mine do it when I brush them, braid, put studs in, or blanket. But not for clipping, mane pulling, or quick grooming before tacking up. Who knows, I guess they are just relaxing.

Mine is only a “hider” when when I actually WANT it hanging out so I can clean it!
Yeah, but what’s bad is when you reach under to grab the straps for the blanket and grab that wang instead! It is, at the very least, startling!

I have one exhibitionist, who lets it all hang out after every ride. The other is painfully shy and only drops when he’s really relaxed at grooming time. I take it as a compliment.

So I’m reading this thread and thinking (I have mares so this phrase doesn’t come up, so to speak, with me), “What is it that people usually say?” Oh, the more genteel phrase, “lets down,” or “drops.” But of course that thought is quickly followed by a desire to hear everyone else’s euphemisms.
I’m guessing literal-minded tinah might say, “puts out his penis.” (tinah? Correction?)
I’m sure there is a wet blanket out there who will say “gets an erection” – accurate but totally lacking in imagination.
